GIA uses the following classifications to describe Surface Quality - Spotless (completely blemish free - very rare); Clean (contains minute surface characteristics difficult for a trained observer to see); Lightly Spotted (minor surface irregularities when inspected by a trained observer); Moderately Spotted (noticeable surface irregularities); and Heavily Spotted (obvious surface irregularities that may impact durability). All other things being equal, the "cleaner" the surface, the higher the value. Irregularities may include: abrasions, bumps, chips, cracks, flatness, gaps, pits, spots or wrinkles. [email protected]
