Made at Michigan State College. “During the Depression years of the 1930s, the United States government worked to provide jobs and stimulate the economy through a massive federal undertaking called the Works Progress Administration. WPA programs were mostly construction projects. However, a division to create jobs specifically for women resulted in several individually-run handicraft programs in states across the country.” This doll would be a perfect edition for the more advanced cloth doll collector. $495. Porcelain china doll shoulder head with porcelain lower limbs and fabric torso. Expertly painted face with painted blue eyes with up turned iris on pale bly with darker blue rims. Black upper eyeliner with red accent lid lines and black eyebrows. Closed painted mouth with light space between the lips. Elaborate hairdo with molded curls, brush marks along sides, molded snood hairnet and molded comb. Remnants of gold me to paint on the hair comb. No visible maker’s marks. Molded and painted black boots with flat soles and pink painted bows at the upper porcelain leg edge. She is wearing an antique fine cotton printed two piece gown with fine black trim and an antique decorative button. Pins to close. She is also wearing a gorgeous cotton batiste slip with French lace insets around the entire slip outer skirt. Utility cotton slip and pantaloons underneath. Shoulder head in very good condition with a few paint rubs at the hair and nose tip. One boot has old glued and repaired damage as shown. Clothing hood and sturdy but does have some holes and wear. When you arrive in our booth on opening night, you will have the first opportunity to buy “fresh” inventory that has not been shopped by others during set up. Andy Ourant will be our keynote speaker for Carol Cameron's informative program on English woodens. The program will include the historical context and the terminology used for the dolls. Andy will then lead us through the English wooden dolls' evolution from 1680 to 1830. Enjoy viewing many examples of these dolls while learning their similarities and differences. Andy will end the evening with a "Facts or Fiction?" session on the makers and the dolls. Carol's program is a joint effort between herself and Andy. Andy is an entertaining and informative speaker with an internationally recognized knowledge of antique dolls and toys. Andy and his wife Becky Ourant are the owners of a gorgeous antique doll shoppe and Becky's Back Room online. Both are lifetime collectors of dolls and toys. Andy is also featured on PBS' Antiques Roadshow l PBS. Unfortunately, Carol cannot attend our show this year due to Covid restrictions. This event is SOLD OUT.
