Can we please get a hold on reality? Spain throughout the Euros have never lost a match - right? After their magnificent semi-final performance they proved to be the favourites to win the trophy whoever won the other semi the next day. - right?
Beating Spain was always going to be a tall order. The fact that the England guys, especially in the first half, really held their own, and despite what some might say, didn’t give up in the second half, is really commendable. They came so close to forcing extra time. The goal line save was gut wrenching.
So saddening to see the players afterwards and hearing some of the criticisms.
Hopefully the guys will still display their runners up medals as coming 2nd in the Euros is absolutely no disgrace given the other countries participating in Germany! Be proud England. ⚽️🏴󠁧󠁢󠁥󠁮󠁧󠁿👏

Mindful of in 1973 when Sunderland were the underdogs against the mighty Leeds who were the team to fear at that time. Yet, the Black cats were confident they would win and we all know what happened.
Football is a funny old game. The England guys have already done us proud reaching the final in Berlin but fingers crossed they win tonight to put the icing on the cake. Come on you guys 🏴󠁧󠁢󠁥󠁮󠁧󠁿⚽️🏆🤞

Another great meeting at Rotherham United Millers Memory club today with some Chesterfield and Sheffield guys too. Good fun and Watsons made it despite jet lag from recent 🇺🇸 trip. Always do everything possible to attend these and other groups’ meetings which keep Dave going for sure.

European Championship Squad 1980.

Only ever 9 players wore the number 5 shirt for England in Euro finals. Pleased to see these 2 Man City greats (though when Dave played in the finals he was at Southampton) and both lovely guys ⚽️🏴󠁧󠁢󠁥󠁮󠁧󠁿 photo taken with John last year.

Our hearts go out to Rob Burrows’s dear young family and friends on hearing he has died. What a wonderful career he had and so brilliantly brought awareness of MND which robbed him of a happy retirement with his wife and children. 41 is way too young 🙁
Rugby, like football must continue to research, educate and help prevent other families having to face these Neurodegenerative diseases. Governing bodies must listen and do more to protect our heroes. They are not just commodities to use then discard.

The eagle eyed might notice on the wall at the back a certain former player’s England shirt along side a photo walking out to play against Argentina at Wembley. A player who started his pro career at Notts County and finished it there as player/assistant manager. Proud of his beginnings and home town.
