The Drewry 0-4-0 Build
Photos of my stage-by-stage build of the Conoisseur Drewry Diesel 0-4-0 153hp shunter in O Gauge
Progress (Or lack thereof...)My sincere apologies for those awaiting posts, I have been distracted by the council threatening to remove our roof in mid winter (renewal) and being coy with the details, and the terrible cold, wet weather where I live that is preventing my painting the body of the loco. More news as it happens...
2nd December 2023 progress: sound chip test and movement, seems ok.
Progress 28th November 2023: Testing the sound chip - something is not right... return to sender? It seems as if the chip is playing all the sound files at the same time, it won't stop, it wont respond to the digital controller. Should have an answer by Friday...
November 24th 2023: Motor and motion fitted, testing. All seems well...
Progress 22nd November 2023: A sweet postal delivery - Digital sound chip, 'stay alive' and speaker. Hope I can fit before Christmas!
progress 20th November 2023: Addendum. The finished transmission tunnel in brass(lower), compared to the cast original (upper). I am quite pleased with the result, it should look great in situ...
Progress 20th November 2023: The kit provided transmission tunnel, that fits inside the cab, is a solid cast white metal object, shown here upside down (silver coloured object). I determined to make a brass one that is hollow, to allow cables to pass to the cab and rear lights I am proposing to fit. (Yellow object)
Late 17th November update: Door handles made and fitted, along with grab bars. I had to make each handle (18 total) from wire.
17th November 2003 progress: Bonnet top sheet shaped and soldered into place, and radiator detail blended in.
Progress 16th November 2023: Chassis painted and wheels re-fitted for testing...
November 15th progress: Interior of cab coming along nicely, bonnet sides attached. Radiator grille is not attached, just sat for test fit. I am planning on fitting the speaker behind the rather nice etched mesh detail...
8th November progress: Cab fitted, control desk fitted to cab front. Excuse the state of the work area, it's been a busy day. Chassis is now resplendent in matt black paint, pictures when the wheels go on for the (hopefully) final time...
7th November 2023: Bonnet frame, front and back cab parts, and the cab sides with handrails. The windscreen wipers were separate parts and really fiddly...
Just a little something to keep you interested...https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=tL7apPyq2IU
4th November 2023: Deck and buffer beams joined, 6ba nuts for the chassis attachment screws also fitted. Chassis is a perfect fit!
Not a bad day's work, if I say so myself...
Next, the body.
4th November 2023: Fitting the four chequer plate pieces to the deck plate. The etching on this model is superb, Jim at Connoisseur really knows his stuff!
4th November 2023: Front and rear buffer beams assembled - 3 parts on rear beam (top) and 7 parts on the front buffer beam (bottom) plus the tiny, fiddly bracket that surrounds the coupling hook.
Progress 3rd November 2023 - Air tanks, Sandboxes and pipes, brake assembly...
Check assembly and test of motion on Drewry chassis. Non-stop action! Utterly revolving!
24th October 2023, Connecting rods fettled ready:
24th October 2023: Connecting rods. Each rod is made of three pieces, an inner plain one, a middle one with tiny oil reservoirs, and the outer one with minor but essential detail. two main connecting rods, two shorter connecting rods.Seen here ready for soldering.
24th October 2023 progress on the build: Adding counterweight brass pieces to the wheels. A nasty, fiddly little time waster. The wheel spokes need trimming flat, the brass needed filing to a nice finish, and the whole lot needs gluing with Araldite (The nasty, fiddly bit). I am pleased with the result though...
22nd October: Progress! The Chassis fully soldered, bearings in place and motor mount with motor test fitted.
Soldering the Chassis parts
After reaming, bearings dry fit to test. Notice removed brass shavings. On to soldering...
Reaming chassis holes for bearings - bearing bottom left
I have started the build... Two Chassis sides and the three Chassis spacers released from the matrix. 14th October 2023.

Unboxing
Hello Peeps! I have been presented with this lovely Conniossuer kit to build, and this year I thought I would post a stage-by-stage build with photographs and videos. For some, this is great, for others, not so much (probably).
