Our Spring Picnic was a success!! It started off sizzling hot but ended in a splash of fun as the kids cooled down the tutors with their water guns ☀️💦🌈 What a great end to a year full of learning, bonding, and fun!

⭐️ Meet Mya Breitweiser and Tina Abraham!

🩺 Mya is graduating with a degree in Biochemistry and a minor in Spanish! She has been tutoring our Mesa students for 2 years, and her favorite memory with RISE was getting to work with the kids on their passions for Night of Narratives! After graduation, Mya will be attending PA School.

🩺 Tina is graduating with a degree in Biomedical Sciences and a minor in Global Health! She has been tutoring at Valencia for 1 year, and her favorite memories with RISE were getting to see the students’ improvements each week! After graduation, Tina will be taking a gap year to apply to medical schools.

⭐️ Meet Paige McPherson!
👩‍💼Paige is graduating with two degrees in Justice Studies and Political Science! She has been in RISE for 2 years, and she has been an essential tutor to our Valencia students during that time. Paige’s favorite memories with RISE have been watching the kids progress throughout the year 😊
👩‍🏫 After graduation, Paige will be moving to Tulsa, Oklahoma to be a secondary English teacher with Teach for America!

Way to go, Paige! 🫶

🌱Our lovely students at Valencia Newcomer School are starting a gardening club to help promote education and awareness around our environment! Join us in supporting this initiative as we raise funds for them to obtain a greenhouse!🌱

🌟GRAD ALERT!!!🌟
Araceli graduated in December with a degree in Political Science. She was in RISE for 1.5 years and spent some of that time as the Director of Events! Her favorite memory is being chased with water balloons during our last RISE picnic! Now, she will be working as Legislative Liaison for the AZ Registrar of Contractors. Congrats Araceli!!

Thank you to Julianna and Yousuf from the Arizona Refugee Center for speaking to us last night about the refugee experience and what you do to help refugees from all over the world as they resettle in America. You work is truly invaluable, and Yousuf’s story is inspiring to us all. 💕

Last week, we volunteered at the Welcome to America Project bike repair night! Many refugees rely on bikes for transportation around the valley, so we were excited to help fix and teach others how to fix their bikes! 🚲
