Jenks, Oklahoma. Dr. William Farrell, a Psychologist with over 30 years of experience, has recently published a book titled: Strong Brains, Strong Bodies: You Can Live a Longer, Healthier and Happier Life. The book’s focus is on how we can maximize both our brain and body health so we can live longer and happier.
Chronic stress not only affects our mental health and level of happiness, and leads to problems with our physical health including affecting our immune system, heart health, gastrointestinal and sexual functioning. Research has proven that prolonged high stress results in damage to our brains and our happiness.
Dr. Farrell shows how we can build our resilience and achieve a healthy and happy life by changing our unhealthy thinking patterns, attitudes and behaviors. Exercise has a significant impact on our mood, our immune system, and for the regeneration of our brain cells damaged by chronic stress. As humans we can be prone to Awfulizing and Catastrophizing thus thinking in ways that are harmful to ourselves. Dr. Farrell’s book promotes a life strategy for all ages that focuses on a combination of reasonable exercise and productive attitudes and behaviors - with this approach we can maximize our health and our happiness.
Dr. Farrell practices what he preaches. He has been a lifelong athlete and proponent of exercise. Dr. Farrell isn’t new to setting records or testing the limits of his athletic abilities. At the age of 18 he won a New York City ‘Olympic Style’ weightlifting contest. Then, at the age of 19 at a body weight of 181 lbs., he placed 4th in the Teenage National ‘Olympic Style’ weightlifting contest by successfully completing a clean and jerk lift of 325 lbs. In 2006 with 61 years of life under his belt and two short years after undergoing open heart surgery for a valve repair, he ran the first of two marathons. Then in April of 2009, Dr. Farrell won the Vermont Grandmaster Bodybuilding Championship, followed by winning two New York State Grandmaster Championship contests for Bodybuilding in 2009 and again in 2010. He won the World Championship in the 100% Raw Powerlifting Championships (drug tested) in 2010, 2011 and 2012, 2013 and 2014. Dr. Farrell holds a number of world records in his age class as well as North Carolina, Vermont and Oklahoma state records.
