Day 1 - Joe McReynolds

I know I said in no particular order but joe is pretty special and it’s fitting that he is first on my Person Of Gratuity list because he is the main reason I’m making movies today. Not only did he put me in my first film(s), he also nudged me into becoming a producer and filmmaker (INHUMANITY comes out August 14th! Shameless plug #1).
Here’s the sappy story behind it all...
After college, I got a “real” job and was making more money than I ever had as a waiter and artist. It was nice and dependable. I was living in Chicago and plugging away as an assistant clinic administrator, with a job title, responsibilities, and a paycheck that continued to grow. One night we were watching behind the scenes of (I kind of want to lie and change this to a better movie but I’ll be honest here...) Twilight and the two main actors were complaining about the mosquitos on set while they were filming. I burst into tears and SOBBED. Why? Because I’d do anything to switch places. I wouldn’t complain, I’d exalt in joy that I was on set of a motion picture living the fking dream. After smothering what I really want...who I really am...for almost a year - it exploded out... of course I still want to be an actor, that can’t go away - it’s who I am. So I tell this to a mutual friend who is the reason I met Joe originally (before moving to Chicago) and the friend blogged about it (an urge to set the creative free using me and my embarrassing story as an example). Joe commented on the blog that I was talented and that I would always have a role in his films if I wanted it.

So I’m back in Austin shortly thereafter.

Then he gives me the producer talk and the “make your own movies, don’t wait for someone to hand it to you” talk and we decide to raise money and make a short film. Four years later, that short film is a feature that is nominated for best Thriller Feature and about to play at Fort Worth Indie Fest on July 21st (Shameless plug #2) before being released on August 14th!! (Shameless plug #3)!

Through it all, joe has been an amazing friend and teacher. I don’t know many others who are simultaneously sure of what they want yet open to all collaboration and different ideas. He seamlessly blends all of what we discuss as a team into the best it can be. He gives credit where it is due. He creates avenues for friends and other artists to get to do what they want too. And he’s a pretty fking clever story teller and filmmaker. He’s got a good eye and head and heart.

I fricking love you Joe.

Thank you. From the depths of my heart, thank you. I’m doing what I love and if nothing else happens for me ever again, I can still say - I made a fking feature film! And you can go watch it (after) August 14th 2018! (Haha, final shameless plug of this post)

Deforming Stillness Each episode of the series provides a glimpse into the lives of the survivors: showing the isolation, of their minds regardless of geography, socio-economic level, race, or identity. The characters are ever shifting, as this is filmed in anthology style, with the story told from different views

Last year, I had my television debut on one of my favorite shows and I got to lead an Academy Qualified short film. I also came into the best role to date - as a mom. This year, my girl and I both booked our first commercial and my very first feature film will be released. What a beautiful dive into pursuing my dreams. Please note, these are only the highlights... I don't make time to post every rejection and all the long, late and sometimes excruciating hours.... but boy, I sure appreciate these highlights. And everything else along the way. Gotta take the yin with the yang. Stay tuned for some exciting news coming in the next few days.

Six Pack Sam makes its premiere at Buffalo Dreams Film Fest next week! Wish we could be there.

Grateful for my life and my work. Today and tomorrow, I get to perform live through the Carol Hickey's Acting Studio annual showcase alongside some of the most talented peeps in town! Later this month, two movies I star in will premiere in Austin at one of my favorite festivals, Austin's Revolution Film Fest: "Ya Albi" will play at Alamo Drafthouse on Wed Sept 20th and the new Academy cut of "Ya Albi" will play for the first time on Friday's Sep 22nd at ARFF and also at the Bob Bullock Museum! Say what??! I'm not sure if I'm ready to see my face in IMAX but I sure am grateful the movie is getting out there and getting a good response. The world premiere of "In The End" will also play at ARFF on Saturday Sep 23d. Thank you to the filmmakers and teachers who trust me, push me and encourage me. And thank you for keeping up with my journey and supporting me. Come see me and these films this month!

Our lead actress, Diana Rose has won Best Actress at the Colorado International Activism Film Festival this past weekend. Congrats Diana!

Woohoo! Another screening of "Ya Albi" has been added to on Friday night since Wednesday has sold out. The extra cherry on top? It plays before the world premiere of "My Ranger" which has some of our great friends in it! Come support both and get some hugs.
