These humble words were spoken many years ago. Yet I know truer words have never been spoken when it comes to the Minnesota Vikings.

I say this...now is the time when the Minnesota Vikings must establish their identity.

In the beginning of the year I felt the Vikings were well established to win the NFC North and earn their way back to the Super Bowl. Here is where I enter the picture.

What I mean is you are just beginning the struggle. This is no time to relax and count your wins. I know a lot of you will sit back and say "ahhh, we can relax now."

No you can't. Don't forget the injuries. Lucky...yes! Good, I don't know. Great... certainly not. At least not yet.

Everyone here has to do more than what they have done so far. You have to think of your teammates more than yourself. The guy across the line from you is better than the media portrays. You know you will be challenged. He's tougher than you think.

And you think: "Boy! I can't make any mistakes. My body is hurting. We are finally a team." The new guys realize none of the teams we play are pushovers. They need a win too.

So sad to learn of Dick Butkus' passing. I was at an event where he received a Lifetime Achievement Award in Phoenix in February. Another Hall of Fame Brother to whom I have to say goodbye. It's been a tough year.
