vintage : authentic : eclectic Vintage and antique furniture and decor from the 1800s to the 1980s, restored and ready for modern life.

Here it is, my new online vintage and antique business, Memories of Lenore!

I want to thank you all for following and supporting The Fab Pad over the past 11 years; I hope to see many of you follow me over to Memories of Lenore!

During my time with the Fab Pad, I realized my passion was rooted in the truly unique and unusual antique and vintage pieces, in particular, personal effects such as jewelry. And the little bits of wonderful charming old decor, that make a home interesting and eclectic.

With that, Memories of Lenore was created, the name an homage to my favourite Edgar Allan Poe poem, “The Raven”.

Please join me there, and follow along in my pursuit for objects of age & allure!

🖤

What do you do with a vintage leopard fur coat?

I appreciated this item for both its beauty and brutality, and I purchased it at an auction knowing I wanted to do something positive with it.

I could donate it to a museum, where it would probably be stored away and almost never seen.

I could donate it to a wildlife rescue to comfort orphaned animals - but I soon found out these rescues are overflowing in vintage furs.

After years in storage and with the impending closure of my shop, I finally decided to auction it off and give the entire winning amount to a big cat conversation group.

This choice was fraught with its own perils; would anyone bid? Wearing fur is, after all, a controversial subject. And in these tough economic times, the minimum bid of $1500 is a lot to ask. But I did it anyway.

I’m so pleased to say that the entire amount from the singular winning bid was donated to to help save leopards. While leopards were mostly protected with the Wildlife Act of 1972, they are still listed as vulnerable and have lost much of their original habitat.

$1500 is just a drop in the bucket of what is needed to save big cats, but I’m glad something good could come from my purchase of this coat, and I know the new owner adores and respects it as much as I did. ❤️🐆

⭐️ AUCTION ⭐️ I am auctioning off this incredible 1960s real leopard fur coat for wild cat conservation and anti poaching, with the entire amount going to to fund their incredible work.

When Jacqueline Kennedy Onassis wore a leopard fur coat in 1962, she kicked off a fashion mania that would see leopards hunted to near extension for their hides. Fortunately, in 1972 the Wildlife Protection Act was created and all leopard products were banned.

This coat is exceptional both in its beauty and brutality; the craftsmanship is simply unmatched, carefully using all parts of the hide to create a wearable work of art. The chocolate satin liner is gorgeously embroidered, bearing the original owners monogram and the furriers’ label. It is in as close to mint condition as one could possibly hope to find. Size is approximately an 8-10 in todays sizing.

🛑 Please note: I am absolutely 100% against fur farms and killing any animal for its fur, the only exception being indigenous peoples who use the hides for clothing and ceremonial purposes.

This is the end, my beautiful friend.

At the end of May, I will be closing the Fab Pad. It’s been a ride lasting 11 years, but it’s time to move on to something new.

It’s no secret that the faltering economy has been brutal on small businesses the past year or so, and we were not immune to that effect. The vintage market itself has changed drastically since I started this business - it’s now a struggle to find stock, and costs of refinishing/restoring those pieces to the level I want have skyrocketed. Many other factors carried weight in this decision too, but why dwell on the negative?

Instead, let’s celebrate that the Fab Pad existed and offered a place to shop and enjoy for vintage and antique fans in beautiful Steveston Village. I am incredibly grateful to all my wonderful customers - the relationships built through a common love of good design I will carry with me forever.

I will continue to sell small vintage/antique items under a new name, and also have a new (and unusual!) business venture in the works…stay tuned for those details!

In the meantime, please help us clear out our stock! Everything is now 40% off, in store and online.

I’ve included some of our past window displays in this post for the sake of nostalgia. Much love to all of those who loved the Fab Pad. ❤️
