Gillian Nicola
“Nicola delivers warm, familiar, folksy Canadiana — but her powerhouse vocals make for a listeni
The first thing that strikes listeners about Hamilton’s Gillian Nicola is the strength of her vocals. This rising singer/songwriter calls on influences of folk, rock and alt-country to bring a sound both unique to her and that honours her diverse taste. In 2016, Nicola released her sophomore EP, No Place to Call, which was produced and engineered by Dan Hosh (Whitehorse, City and Colour, Rose Cous

NO SHE DIDN'T! I AM HERE! I'm still laying low but will be doing a somewhat rare performance (these days, I promise it's temporary!) for the City of Hamilton's Summer Concert Series at The Gown and Gavel on Saturday, July 15th. I'll be sharing the evening with the very excellent Melissa Dutch. I hope you can join us. The best part? It's free!

Big time sad to say my email and website are currently down. I don’t know when it will be fixed, so if you can send me all your nice vibes, it would be greatly appreciated.
My site now shows a very old version of my website, which also lists shows that are definitely not happening (they did, for sure, happen in 2016.) Living in the past can be fun, but not this time.
My email has been down for awhile without me realizing, so if you’ve tried to get in touch with me and it hasn’t gone through, this is why. Until I get things sorted, I can be reached at [email protected].
Hopefully this will all be back and running soon.

Ok, I’ll bite. I thought surely I didn’t have enough pictures to do a year-end post but I do! Yay!
Pictured:
1. Doing the online not-Banff songwriters residency. That was the most normal I felt all year.
2. Getting vaccinated! Yay!
3. Tracking some demos with because, yay, making music with others.
4. One of the worst sunburns I’ve had in my life, excellent because it means I went to a beach!
5. Celebrating my grandmama’s 90th birthday when it was finally medium safe to do so with a high tea.
6. Celebrating the marriage of bestie and because obviously that’s excellent but again because WOW IT FELT NORMAL and I got to see some of the loves of my life, like .hogan.7 and
7. and I just yelling our bestie special bond love of my life friendship at everyone
8. Cuddling my cutie monkey little honey Phillip G, who once again who-saved-who’d me all year long
9. Getting to be with the amazing Fen, child of . Any moments spent with this babe were truly some of my favourite of the year. Is there anything more wholesome and perfect and renewing than a wee babe?
Not Pictured:
- extreme existential dread
- slamming my finger in the door at my grandma’s birthday and not being able to play guitar properly for about 5 or 6 weeks
- learning how to paint my nails pretty damn well
- buying myself a nice keyboard that makes me want to play piano and writing what I think are maybe bangers on said instrument
- getting pretty great at cooking and also tiring of it very easily
- practicing riffing endlessly
- many hours & straight up LIVES lost to a thrips infestation
getting to spend actual time with friends when it felt safe and nice and wow, friends, I love you.
- extreme anger at the government and policy makers for not giving a single f**k if any of us live or die
- becoming the most whole, self aware, slightly less self-loathing person I think I’ve ever been, which has been a years-long process that was seriously clocked this morning in an excellent therapy session that felt like a cute little bow was tied around the hellfire of 2021
C u next year!🤪
