Art of Glass Oxford
I am now semi retired. I concentrate on my silversmithing more than large art pieces of glass. Fused and stained glass windows, light catchers, home décor.
Can be made to order. Commissions undertaken. I have over 20 years experience and have a home studio as I closed my large studio in Eynsham as I no longer teach. My Etsy shop is www.etsy.com/uk/shop/artofglassoxford
Happy New Year! Wishing you a healthy and happy 2023.
Wishing my customers and friends, old and new, a very Merry Christmas and a Happy and Healthy 2023!
(not my work)
So looking forward to seeing this. The book was a great comfort during lock down and so much grief from losing my fur baby Tara, Dad and Mum in the short space of time (5 years).
We're here! So many lovely people.
We're off to London today to take part in the Remembrance ceremony tomorrow.
I very much wanted to take my Dad, who served in the Royal Navy in WW2, but he couldn't. Its too late now as we lost him in 2016.
My son and I will be wearing my Grandad's and Dad's medals with pride. My husband will be marching with his old squadron on parade.
I dont agree with war, I want peace and for us to unite and work towards saving our beautiful planet. This doesn't mean I am not grateful for everyone who has made sacrifices during ALL wars so we are free. We will remember you, we will never forgetyour sacrifice. RIP brave people and all the animals who served and are still serving now.
Well my workspace is very close to being ready for me to start glass work again. It feels like years since I've done anything, but of course it hasn't been.
I've missed Christmas makes, but commissions will take first place.
Long covid and on- going complications have been a bit of a nightmare, but feeling good to go now.
Love Louis Armstrong
More history . . .
My glass blog is back - retirement is a little sad without glass and doing creative things with my hands. Only scary thing is organising the house so I'm not using every single room! Not an easy task! Anyone want to buy a big kiln?
Well it looks like I'm coming out of retirement as I miss having fun with glass.
Got so much to sort out before I can, but really looking forward to incorporating my glass with silver smithing.
Our house is bursting at the seams and decisions have had to be made. I will be selling my stained glass equipment and materials as well as Big Bertha, my largest kiln.
I feel I have enough experience with silversmithing to design and create my own items and am moving on to use gold, which is making me very nervous due to the cost of gold.
Nothing to show you except for pieces I've previously made in class and memorial pieces I've made for customers. Looking forward to showing you my new pieces in the not too distant future. Watch this space.
Great video on how glass stringers are made. I don't use Oceanside glass, but very interesting. https://fb.watch/eoRbMUGE25/
With all the exciting news of the wreck of The Endurance being found and in such an amazing condition, I thought I'd post my commissioned piece of the Endurance again.
I'm a member of the Sir Ernest H. Shackleton Appreciation Society FB group and its been an amazing adventure. The Group is a fantastic font of knowledge and has been providing many updates of this adventure. If the Endurance, or Shackleton, is of interest, I cannot recommend this Group enough.
This is from a customer who I made several memorial commissions for.
Thank you Nicky Copelin, Kate and Pat.
"The lovely Ros commissioned three very important pieces for me. These were for me and my mother and sister. They were made to our specification and Ros included my father’s ashes into each piece. Ros did everything with amazing communication and sensitivity. The overriding feeling was of Ros’ compassion and intention to make everything feel just right for us. 3 beautiful pieces that we will cherish forever. Would highly recommend."
Even though I thoroughly enjoy designing and making fused and stained glass, I have decided to retire after my last Artweeks event at the end of May this year.
I will still be creating as a hobbyist and making jewellery, but I will not be taking on any more commissions.
A few of my previous makes using this wonderful medium, glass.
My kingfisher commission was finished last year, but getting it encapsulated meant a long delay.
Delivered to my customer yesterday and awaiting photos when it is in situ.
A happy customer makes me feel very warm inside. Job done and on to the next.
Memorial bowls, Jewellery, ashes paperweight and motown commission.
Keeping busy.
