HCLS is a federated system of 13 Public Library members in Hidalgo County. The Hidalgo County Library System (HCLS) was founded in 1971 to improve and develop libraries and library services for all residents of Hidalgo County. HCLS is supported with funds from Hidalgo County and strives to promote, coordinate and help provide full and free library services to all residents of Hidalgo County.

The Dr. Hector P. Garcia Memorial Library was honored to be featured on the noon programing at KRGV last week. Our Friends of the Library President and Vice President spoke about our current book sale and also touched on our goals for the future. I just wanted to take a moment to thank Ms. Garza for allowing us to display her book in our StoryWalk. We are truly grateful for her contributions to our program and we are eagerly looking forward to her next book. If you haven't had the opportunity to come by and read it yet, there's still time. Ms. Garza's book will be on display until May 31.

This morning, Speer Memorial Library hosted the first of three Summer Reading Program Workshops. A huge shout-out to all the libraries that were able to attend! Several wonderful ideas were shared. The next workshop is scheduled to take place on March 6th at the Dustin M. Sekula Memorial Library.

We'd like to take a moment to honor Armandia Sesin, the library director of San Juan Memorial Library, for her dedicated 16 years of service to the community. As she steps down from her position to retire, we'd like to thank her for many years of hard work. Many well wishes to you on your future endeavors.

This evening, the Mercedes public library will be hosting a portrait unveiling for Dr. Hector P. Garcia, the war veteran and physician that their library is named after. The event is open to the public. See flyer for details.
Join us for an unveiling ceremony of a portrait of Dr. Hector P. Garcia, after whom our library is named. The portrait has been donated by Attorney Amador Garcia, cousin to the late Dr. Hector P. Garcia, and will be unveiled on August 24th, 2023. The public is welcome to attend this ceremony. Refreshments will be provided. Give us a call for more details

Open to all High School students Valley wide. Please join us tomorrow for an enriching workshop that will teach career readiness and other marketable skills. If you can't make it tomorrow, the same workshop will be given on Wednesday, July 26th, at 11AM to 1PM.
College is coming up fast. Job call backs, too. Help your teen get ready for these next steps with our Career Skills Workshop for High School Students. The workshop is totally free and will be held on Wednesday, July 12th at 2 p.m. Hope to see you there!
The Dr. Hector P. Garcia Memorial Library in Mercedes is ready to invite everyone to their end of Summer Reading Program celebration tomorrow evening. Admission is free and all ages are encouraged to attend.
PARTY TIME
We're finishing off our annual with one last Summer Bash! Join us for free food, music, games, inflatables, prizes and more! The event will be held in front of the library and VIDA parking lot tomorrow June 30th, from 7 p.m. to 9 p.m. to avoid the daytime heat.
The library itself will be operating from 1 p.m. through 9 p.m. to provide respite for partygoers and the like. Additional information can be found at 956-565-2371

LEAP is launching in several libraries across the valley. See if the one near you is participating this week!
We are proud to announce the implementation of the Library Explorer Adventure Pack (LEAP)! Sponsored by Driscoll Health Plan, the library will officially launch the program with our opening celebration being held on March 14th during Spring Break. With LEAP, patrons may check out special backpacks in one of ten different themes containing a variety of books, guides, nature tools, and other cool goodies meant to teach it's user more about the great outdoors. These backpacks are to be checked out for a two week period and brought back for others to enjoy. Again, join us at the Library on March 14th at 4:30 p.m. for our official celebration
