Let’s talk about Bone Broth….🌱

Bone broth may have many nutritional benefits. It is rich in nutrients and may support the health of your bones and digestive system, among other benefits.

What is bone broth?
Bone broth is made by simmering the bones and connective tissue of animals.
This forms a stock for making soups, sauces, and gravies. It can also provide a nutritious drink.
Bone broth dates back to pre historic times when hunter-gatherers turned otherwise inedible animal parts like bones, hooves, and knuckles into a broth they could drink.
You can make bone broth using bones from just about any animal — chicken, pork, beef, veal, turkey, lamb, bison, buffalo, venison, or fish.

Benefits of Bone Broth;

1. It contains vitamins and minerals- Simmering the ingredients releases their nutrients into the water in a form your body can easily absorb.
2. It may support a healthy digestive system: A healthy digestive tract is essential for well-being.Bone broth is easy to digest and may help prevent inflammation related to your digestive tract.
3. May help fight inflammation- The amino acids found in bone broth, including Glycine and Arginine which have anti-inflammatory properties.
4. It is full of collagen which will help your bones and can ease Joint Inflammation.
5. May improve sleep and brain function

I ensure to make it weekly and store in the fridge and then throughout the week I will help myself to a warm cup of bone broth to give my body the boost it needs! If you would like the recipe please comment below - HOW ♥️

Brain Health 🔆🌿

Looking after our brain is so important as let’s face it- it’s basically the BOSS of us 🤪❤️

Here is how the herbs can help support your brain function;

🌿Sage- Sage is an herb for memory that has a number of brain benefits. A spice known for its pungent scent, sage might also improve cognition and aid in the treatment of Alzheimer's disease. In fact, a research review published in 2017, suggests sage contains compounds that may be beneficial for cognitive and neurological function.

🌿Turmeric- According to a review published in 2010, preliminary research suggests that turmeric may boost brain health and stave off Alzheimer's disease by clearing the brain of beta-amyloid (a protein fragment). The buildup of beta-amyloid is known to form Alzheimer's-related brain plaques. In addition, turmeric may shield brain health by inhibiting the breakdown of nerve cells in the brain.

🌿 Ashwagandha- Another Ayurvedic herb, ashwagandha has been found to inhibit the formation of beta-amyloid plaques in preliminary research, according to a review study published in 2010.

🌿 Gotu Kola - In alternative medicine systems such as Ayurveda and TCM, Gotu kola has long been used to improve mental clarity. Findings from animal-based research suggest that this herb may also help the brain by fighting oxidative stress.

🌿Ginseng- Ginseng is one of the best herbs for memory due to its potential ability to prevent memory loss and reduce age-related memory declines. One of the most popular plants in herbal medicine, ginseng contains anti-inflammatory chemicals called ginsenosides.

🌿Lemon Balm- An herb often taken in tea form and frequently used to ease anxiety and insomnia, lemon balm may help improve cognitive function. Some research suggests that this may be a great herb for memory loss.

What other herbs do you know are good for your brain? Comment below 😍

Let’s talk about Milk Thistle 🌿

This natural detoxer is renowned for its liver-boosting properties. So how does it work, and could milk thistle work for you too? Milk thistle, or silybum marianum, has been used as a herbal healer since ancient Greek times. In the middle ages, the leaves were used in salads, but these days the seeds are most commonly used in supplements. The seeds are rich in silymarin – a potent compound of antioxidant flavonoids that fights free radical damage and has an anti-inflammatory effect.

If you've overindulged, milk thistle may help – it’s famous for being a natural detoxifier and being used to tackle indigestion. It’s particularly believed to help support the liver, the body’s main organ for filtering out toxins, including alcohol.

What is Milk Thistle good for?

🌿Supports a healthy liver

Evidence suggests that milk thistle helps protect the liver, and may even regenerate new liver cells. In a review examining its effect on alcoholic liver disease, four studies found improvements in markers of healthy liver function including levels of aminotransferases, enzymes that are released into the blood when the liver is damaged.

🌿Hormonal support

As the liver helps balance out hormones, such as oestrogen, taking milk thistle could also support our hormonal health.

🌿An anti-inflammatory

Taking milk thistle may help reduce flare-ups in the body. In a 2015 American study, the herb was shown to suppress inflammation in cells and T-cells (a type of white blood cell).

🌿Helps balance blood sugar

Research suggests using milk thistle alongside conventional treatment may help those with diabetes, lowering blood sugar and guarding against insulin resistance.

We have Milk Thistle in stock if you’d like to get your hands on some 🤪

Lemons are no stranger to a healthy lifestyle. I’m sure you’ve added lemon to your morning water, made a zesty salad dressing or possibly used them to naturally brighten skin tone. The benefits and uses of lemons are endless, but one of its lesser known abilities is as a deodorant.

Here are more facts and benefits of using lemon as deodorant:

The naturally occurring ingredients in lemon kill odor-causing bacteria instead of just masking it. Citric acid neutralizes bacteria and prevents it from appearing.

Lemons can improve skin health under your arms. Lemons have astringent properties and will tighten pores.

Lemons have been known to gradually lighten skin, a possible added benefit for those whose underarm skin is darkening.

Lemons are scent-free and free from a chalky residue. No more stained shirts from nameless chemicals or embarrassing armpit checks before you raise your hand. By losing the chalky film, you’re also free from chafing and painful rashes.

Lastly, the price tag is an improvement over your traditional deodorants.

Each morning I rub a slice of lemon under my arms and that’s enough to protect me from bad odours throughout the day!

Shepard’s purse tincture is used to aid wound healing and improve bleeding conditions, including menstrual disorders and circulatory and heart conditions.

Shepherd’s purse can help with postpartum hemorrhage, or bleeding after childbirth.
A study in 100 women with postpartum hemorrhage found that the hormone oxytocin reduced bleeding in one group. However, another group taking both oxytocin and 10 drops of shepherd’s purse experienced a significantly greater decrease!

Shepherd’s purse may also help with heavy bleeding associated with your menstrual cycle.

Straight after my home birth I took Shepard’s purse tincture to ensure bleeding was kept to a minimum and also to lessen the bleeding postpartum— I can honestly say it worked wonders!

This tincture has been my saviour for my post baby periods also as us women know just how awful these can be!

HerbsOfLife LTD has also collaborated with When push comes to shove to be able to supply their lovely doulas and birth support team the best tinctures for mummys pre & postpartum! —I also used them for my home birth and I can tell you they are worth their weight in gold!! I am forever thankful to them for the most amazing birthing experience I could ever imagined! ❤️

One of the most important active ingredients in cinnamon is cinnamaldehyde. It’s used in flavorings and fragrances. It may be responsible for some of cinnamon’s possible health benefits.

Cinnamon contains potassium, magnesium and calcium. Potassium helps to counteract sodium’s effect on blood pressure and controls the heart rate. Potassium is also involved in nerve function.

Magnesium and calcium work together to maintain a healthy heartbeat. These two minerals are essential for skeletal health, preventing the weakening of bones, a condition called osteoporosis.

In addition, cinnamon can provide other health benefits like:
1. Anti inflammation
2. Cancer prevention
3. Antibiotic properties
4. Prevention from heart disease
5. Protection from oxidative stress

Cinnamon bark tincture can also be used straight after giving birth to enable the uterus to repair and menstrual cycles to stabilise.

GOOD NEWS - our cinnamon bark extract is back in stock! If you would like to get your hands on of these comment “yes please” below ❤️

This healthy tea is derived from the leaves of the lemon balm plant, which is a member of the mint family. It is widely available and inexpensive, and can also be grown rather easily in a home garden. Praised for its relaxing and sedative qualities, lemon balm tea has been a part of traditional healing practices for centuries. The wide range of health benefits is largely the result of the active compounds found in lemon balm, including tannins, flavonoids, rosmarinic acid, citronellal, eugenol, and other polyphenolic compounds, as well as copper, zinc and various essential vitamins.

A few of our herbal teas include Lemon Balm- message for more details ❤️🌿.

Red raspberry leaves are the leaves of the raspberry plant, scientifically known as Rubus idaeus. While the fruit of this plant is more well known for its tart berries, the leaves are also packed with antioxidants and other nutrients, making it a very important part of traditional medicine. For more than 400 years, natural healers have been using the leaves of this plant to aid women’s reproductive health, while also helping other systems in the body. Red raspberry leaves are relatively easy to find as herbal supplements in capsules and tablets, but many people prefer the dried leaves to brew red raspberry tea.

The most notable benefits of these leaves include its effects on pregnancy, menstrual discomfort, implantation, blood pressure, fertility, reproductive health, and the immune system, among others.

While drinking an excess amount of this tea during the first two trimesters is not always recommended, it can strengthen the uterine lining and help to ease labor pains, making it a popular choice as your due date approaches.

If you are pregnant and would like to purchase our healthy cycle tea please DM us ❤️
