Long Lake Hounds
Those who foxhunt share in the beauty, excitement and the camaraderie of riding to hounds.
It is with great sadness to share that our Joint Master, Nancy Bizzano passed away yesterday. Nancy has been Joint Master of Long Lake Hounds for over 10 years and a member of Long Lake Hounds for 40+ years. Nancy was always the fox and behind the scenes of LLH, organizing hunts, contacting landowners and keeping the stinky on the ground. She will be deeply missed by so many. As soon as services are determined we will post that information.
If you have pictures or stories of Nancy that we can pass along to the family, please email [email protected]. She has had such a long history with the club and horse community that is beyond current member knowledge that we would love to pass those fond memories on to her family.
Today was a great training day for the hounds and the scenery was top notch too!
What a fun morning! The hounds were spot on, we had some new horses that did great and the scenery was top notch, as usual!
The weather finally cooperated and we got to hunt! The hounds and horses were so happy to be out doing their job again. Let the hunting season begin!
It might finally dry out enough for the Pace on SUNDAY, July 14th. Register here if you're able to join us!
July 2024 Hunter's Pace Registration One person from each team will need to fill out this form. We do ask for everyone's contact information to confirm your start time and let you know of any changes in location or if we have to postpone due to weather or some other reason.
It was a perfect morning for our 3rd step of our 4 steps clinic, the trail ride. Participants learned to follow the field master, see how their horse does in a group going at different speeds and hand signals that they would see on a hunt, plus got to play in some water. They are now ready to join a hunt when our season starts on June 22nd!
Sadly we need to postpone the date for the Spring Hunter's Pace scheduled for this Saturday, June 8th. Just too wet to allow all those horses on the trails. Our new date will be SUNDAY, JUNE 16th, yes, we know it's Father's Day and apologize to all the Dad's out there! If you weren't able to make the first date, but can on the rescheduled date, sign up here!

I've been to a Hunter's Pace so I have hunted.
FICTION! A Hunter's Pace is an event for Long Lake Hounds to introduce non members to our beautiful country, but it's not a hunt. A hunt is another level of excitement adding the hounds, a bigger group of horses riding in different fields and the tailgate breakfast afterwards where everyone socializes and talks about the hunt and what they experienced.
Long Lake Hounds is a drag hunt so they don't chase real fox.
FACT! Our pack of hounds chase a scent that has been laid down before the hunt that they have been trained to follow. We ask each landowner permission to be on their land so by having our hounds follow a scent we know that they will be on land that we are allowed. It also keeps our hounds and horses safe from crossing busy roads, keeps us out of bad footing and allows for the best viewing of the hounds working.
A couple years old, using technology that has come a long way but still fun to see and listen to the hounds!!
Hunting from a Whipper-In point of view Drag hunting with the Long Lake Hounds from the point of view of a whipper-in who's job is to stays up with the lead hounds. Takes place in Independence, MN...
My horse and I don't jump so I can't hunt with Long Lake Hounds.
FICTION!
During a hunt there are always options to go around jumps.
