Embrace Dyslexia
Nonprofit to help people with dyslexia. So misunderstood in schools. Such talents & strengths not discovered due to anxiety & strife. We can do better!
It is time to determine why our children's reading skills in the areas of fluency, comprehension and spelling are not commensurate with their level of intelligence. Through education and awareness, parents and educators will be better equipped to identify dyslexia in a child at a much earlier age than ever believed. We are developing assistive technology and methods to have positive impact in educational environments.

Finding valid IEP plans should not be like finding a unicorn! IDEA requires 20 USC 6368 (3)(4)(5)(6)(7) that the essential components of reading are explicit and systematic. Section 3 lists phonemic awareness, phonics, fluency, vocabulary development and comprehension!
If your child is behind ... 30 minutes a few times a week with a group doing a little of this and that is not a valid plan.
Some kids need a goal and instruction in more than one area!
As parents propose a goal for each component that shows a need! Measure current levels in phonemic awareness specifically. Measure phonics accuracy specifically. In vocabulary specifically, in fluency specifically.
All of these components are needed. If not ..
Look in the PWN or N1 for the reasons why these things are not provided according to IDEA criteria?
How does your reading instruction stack up?

I wanted to share a story about me growing up with Dyslexia and how Tim Tebow has been inspiration in my life. In high school I was a fan of Tim Tebow the athlete. I was fasciated with his leadership, drive and always willing to go the extra mile for his teammates. At this time in my life in high school I was struggling severely with my dyslexia, it was exhausting; my senior year I had six grade reading level with 1.9 GPA, my social skills weren’t good, I quit my senior year of baseball due to not getting right resources for me as an athlete and barely finish any of my papers. I also found out halfway through my senior year that Tim had dyslexia also. It was at that moment I looked up to him more than just a athlete. Through the years I have been inspired by him to be a better man through faith, try harder in school and on the field. He has been big part of my life and someone I’ve looked up to as inspiration in my life. Back in May at a Versus Men’s Conference I had the opportunity to attend and listen to speech by Tim. It was powerful and amazing speech. Then after the speech I got to speak with Tim for a few minutes- it is definitely something I’ll never forget and can’t thank you enough when I was the 18 year old kid from Boston who felt lost and hopeless you made me feel not alone.
Flash forward I’m 30 years old I’ve a masters degree in Sports Management and going to go for my doctorate degree in educational leadership. I run my own baseball business that is very successful and I’m also former professional baseball player. If you have a student, son/daughter or athlete with dyslexia who is struggling on or off the field. I would love a chance to speak with them- I know what it is like as young kid or person struggling with dyslexia. Just message me! Also thank you for all you amazing educators sharing you thoughts, ideas and you care for people with dyslexia it means the world to us.
Thank you

The biggest red flags for Dyslexia include a Speach Delay and/or a family history of reading difficulties. But these are 5 additional flags you need to be aware of.
1. Difficulty Rhyming
2. Consistently Inconsistent Reading
3. Writing and Spelling Are Hard
4. Struggles with Word Retrieval
5. Challenges Trying to Memorize Information (like math facts, sight words, words in order to a song, Bible verses, nursery rhymes, etc)
Such a misconception...certification is not granted for merely attending a seminar.

"But She's So Smart!" - Orton-Gillingham Weekly Years ago, I mentioned to someone that my daughter had dyslexia. The reply was, “But she’s so smart.” That comment made me realize that many people don’t understand dyslexia. Some Consider Dyslexia a Gift Having dyslexia does not mean you also have a lower IQ. In fact, it is often quite the ...
