Dougal Angus MacDonaldougal. Most Scottish looking AND sounding man.
Dougal Angus MacDonaldougal, winner of the most Scottish Looking Person competition held in Nairn for most of the 19th Century. Dougal won the competition outright for over fifty years, from 1822 to 1876 where he had to withdraw when he found out his Tam o Shanters tassle had been knitted in Northumberland, albiet it was Scottish wool. Ever the gentleman he shrugged off his defeat that year, and went and had his entire body tattooed tartan, with the instruction that upon his death he be skinned and turned into bagpipes. However the ink on the document smudged and ran, and instead of "bagpipes" he was used to lag pipes in Nairn public library. His Sporran was carried by supporters of the 1978 Scottish World Cup squad to Argentina, but it was lost after celebrating Archie Gemmels goal against the Dutch team. This was doubly tragic as the Sporran had most of Nairn supporters club return tickets in it. Luckily they were dab hands at thumbing it and managed to get home in time for Scotland not to qualify past the group stages of the next world cup.

Often sang at sporting events, The Irish national anthem “The Soldier’s Song” was originally written in English and was sang in English by the Irish Volunteers in the GPO and on marches before 1916. The lyrics were written by Peadar Kearney and the music was composed by Patrick Heaney. It was translated into Ámhrán na bhFiann by Liam Ring. Here is a Wikipedia link to the history behind the song. Quite a number of Irish people can’t speak Irish and some don’t know what they are singing about so here is the original version in english. https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Amhrán_na_bhFiann
“Whiskey in the Jar”
It’s always cool to have the Irish tunes we love so much requested at the country music shows. Here’s a love song written for the British army.
