Lanolin is also known as Wool wax or Wool Grease. Here are a few common brands that use Lanolin in some of their products:

You know who is Lanolin free? Perfectly Posh!

•So, what is it? Lanolin is a wax produced by the sebaceous (oil/fat) glands of wool bearing animals. Lanolin that is used by Humans comes from domestic sheep that are raised specifically for their wool. Besides being used in soaps & such, Lanolins are also used to prevent rusting on farming equipment, even on the shears that strip the wool from the sheep. It also is used in paints & varnishes. Now tell me, why would you want that on your skin?

•Lanolin tends to sit on your skin acting as a barrier, rather than actually sinking in & moisturizing your skin. This barrier also stops the flow of toxins that would usually flush out by themselves without the barrier. Lanolins have been known to cause irritations on skin & diarrhea if ingested.

•Now all these sheep go through a dipping process to keep their fleece free from bacteria & other pollutants. However, as it may be good for the sheep, it's not so good for humans. It is entirely possible & pretty likely that the sheep dip - which is used on a whole "batch" of sheep - could have easily picked up dangerous pesticides (such as DTT). While the lanolin itself is a completely natural product, the same cannot be said for the process used to care for the sheep & ultimately extract the lanolin wax. Doesn't sound like something you'd want to use on your skin, right?
