Under Abusive Influences
Shelly Bronkema at Under Influence of Abuse Ministry helps those who are struggling with the effects
Here it is, my story. I hit my breaking point during a very stressful and abusive season in my life.
God wasn’t answering my prayers the way I wanted Him to, so I ditched Him.
My heart shattered when my Ex took my kids to the other side of America, against divorce paper stipulations.
Now I had only God to focus on. I was amazed how He won my heart as He set me free, on an amazing journey of discovery and emotional healing.
This book offers insight on the destructive effects of emotional abuse and will guide you as you seek direction and encouragement for your life or to help others.

Am I really saved or not?
Often when in any type of abusive relationship confusing verses get thrown in your face by your abuser, causing you to feel inadequate and to raise doubt about your faith. I remember feeling sick to my stomach and experiencing a level of anxiety as to whether I was really saved or not.
To help clarity some things for you, ask yourself, Who is the passage talking about?
In 1 John 1, I would be so confused for it seemed to flip from believer to unbeliever, thus causing me to gravitate to a popular belief that began in the 80’s. It was called the 11 test to check your salvation.
I’m not going to focus on those 11 test because those test were made up by;
1.) Separating 1 John 1, from the rest of first John, chapters 2-5.
2.) Switching the focus off of Christ perfect work on the cross to how inadequate you are as a believer on a daily level.
This plays into the abusers hands because now you have a low self esteem spiritually and sets the stage to break down your self esteem relationally with others, and mentally. Basically he/she makes you feel like your never enough and God has no use for you and has set you on a shelf to watch everyone else live out their purpose in joy.
3.) It causes people to loose their assurance in salvation, when there are many verses that clearly define that reassurance for them. John, the same author isn’t going to contradict himself in the following verses.
John 3:36:
He who believes in the Son has everlasting life;..
John 1:12: But as many as received Him,…
It’s a simple believe in Christ alone through Faith alone.
It’s a simple believe and receive !
Receive meaning to invite Him into your house. The Bible refers our body to a temple or some might say a house of God. When you invite Him into your house you invite Him into your life.🙃
How can you be sure I John was written to believers? Ask yourself;
1.) Who is John talking to?
Obviously it’s believers because he addresses us as children of God, Beloved , My little children , Brethren, and John identifies himself with those he’s talking to by using the word, “we.”
Whenever John is addressing the world (unsaved) he makes it clear by addressing them as the world, (unsaved ) false teachers.
In 1 John 2: 18-20, when he uses the word, “they,” it’s unsaved false teachers.
2.) What is the writer trying to communicate? Walking in the light of Christ so we can have fellowship with one another.
I could certainly go deeper on point two but I don’t want to wear you out today.
Remember, when the original manuscripts of the Bible were written they weren’t divided up in chapters. Remember to look at the book as a whole and that will erase your inadequacies. Christ is all about encouraging us, edifying us and yes, rebuking our actions when we are out of fellowship with Him. But never does He berate, belittle, discourage, bully, abuse, or cause doubt. Those behaviors are of the adversary.
3.) What happens when you feel inadequate, discouraged and so forth?
You feel worthless and you stop growing, if not right away, then eventually. Is that what Christ wants for us? No, in scripture He makes it clear that He wants our Joy to be full by abiding (walking in His light)in Him.
Dear Lord,
If there’s anything keeping me out of fellowship with you, please bring it to my mind so I can correct it. Thank you Lord that there is nothing that can boot me out of the Kingdom of God.
Since the day I received you through faith alone Christ alone, I have been and always will be secure.
John 1:12: But as many as received Him, to them He gave the right to become children of God, to those who believe in His name.

Wow, if this verse doesn’t speak volumes to you, let me enlighten you with the following prayer.
“Lord, I don’t want to be like the people of this world, running around at breakneck speed, trying to multitask until I’m so deep in the darkness and I can no longer see the light of your face.”
- Power Prayers For everyday life.
Life isn’t about how much we can accomplish in a day. Yup, I’m with ya! I have a lot of pressing things to get done too. The hardest pull comes when I know my life would run smoother if things were more organized. I try, I succeed until things get busy. But ya know, I miss the greatest blessings when I allow daily household duties to get in the way of digging deeper into Gods Word or opening a commentary to understand the historical meaning of a section of scripture. Those days I leave out connecting with my first love are the days I feel like I got gypped. My heart runs on empty and my untethered emotions manifest it’s own destructible dilemma’s that create anxiety.
Sometimes it seems impossible to fit God in. I mean, it’s either make a grocery list or spend time with God.
What to do, what to do?
I’ll give you a little tip. Be like Mary and not Martha.
Connect with the Lord, and your daily burdens will be lighter. Forget the grocery list and go to the grocery store and pray, as you walk down the aisles, “What would you have for me to buy today Lord?” It may take a few time to learn to hear His voice. If that seems to risky and your not ready to relinquish control to Him, make your list and leave out 2 meals for the week. Trust Him to show you what He has in mind for you to fix for those two meals. It’s fun, exciting and adventurous to live on the edge!
Coping with emotions can be complicated but it’s not impossible when you walk in the Spirit, instead of fighting for control!

Yesterday I shared my heart on light and darkness in relationships. I came across this verse in my Bible reading and wanted to share.
I John 5b, 7 TNIV
“God is light: In him there’s no darkness at all.
7 If we walk in the light, he is in the light and we have fellowship with one another, and the blood of Jesus, his son, purifies us from all sin”
There are so many heavy issues weighing on my mind. Most of them are centered on relationship issues and helping couples resolve what’s hidden from family and friends.
The word of God reminds us to bring these issues to light.
Light is Jesus, light is also the church and praying that God will bring the right help to guide your relationship on a God directed path.
When we keep the issues in the dark, the enemy weaves a web of lies that bring destruction. The light is not where the enemy resides.
My encouragement to you is to choose light and handle these issues right.
♥️
I praise God for healing! He has been so faithful to me and given me the tools needed to pass from survival mode, to thriving and now into redeeming my past. Ask me how I can help you or a loved one.

Step Out to Change the World
Defeated, the disciples washed their nets after a long night of fishing. I can only imagine how discouraged they must have felt, especially since they used all the perfect tips for the best catch. They were skilled fishermen so they took into consideration the weather conditions, moon cycle, and the tide, all for the best catch. They may have wondered, “What went wrong?”
Jesus, noticing that their boats were docked and empty, stepped into one to give himself some space from the crowd. The people were obviously anxious to hear him preach. He ended up preaching from Simon’s boat and asked for him to push the boat off shore before speaking to the crowd. When He ended His sermon He asked Simon to row out to deeper waters.
The night before had been uneventful with a deadlock on catching fish. The disciples were tired, and probably struggled with doubt about their provisions for the days ahead.
Simon, feeling tired and possibly depressed, obeyed the Lords command anyways.
It’s here I want to interject the famous verse, “Trust in the Lord with all your heart and lean not (depend) not on your own understandings (skills, knowledge, strength.) I commend Simon because in spite of the fact that it didn’t make sense to go to deeper waters, he did it anyway. Often fishermen have a specific spot that they know is always popping with fish. Perhaps they sunk a boat in a particular spot and that was their dependable sweet spot. In spite of all the possible questions that may have been running through his mind, he did what Jesus told him to do.
For the disciples, the deeper waters weren’t familiar and the time of day was most likely off from what usually works. The important part is, Simon followed through with the command and he was blessed. He pulled in so much fish that his net was breaking. They had to call for the other boats to help and their nets were breaking as well. In Luke 5: 8 Simon felt shameful for his doubt. He knew what he was thinking in his head.
Suddenly, Simon's perspective changed, and his life changed, as Jesus spoke, “I will make you fishers of men.”
The word picture Jesus created with the site of so many fish being caught helped him understand that they were going to tell people about Jesus and there would be many people who would believe in the Son of God.
It probably took a minute for the prediction to register. The words Jesus spoke meant that the disciples would change jobs, leave the towns they grew up in and all the family and friends they knew for they were going to travel and change the world.
Lets draw comparisons for a moment.
The night fishing without God was unsuccessful. It was their idea to fish in the spot that brought them no profit. They didn’t pray about it, but depended on their own skills and knowledge to get them what they needed and this time it was a total FAIL!
However, the day fishing the Lord gave direction to, was a success.
Now look at your own life.
God may call you to do the unusual and just like the disciples fishing experience, it may not seem,
1.) Practical 2.) Make sense 3.) May cause others to raise a brow and wonder why your going in a different direction then before.
But when you seek God first and get direction from him,
1.) You will have peace
2.) Your perspective will change, and you will have a memorial to remind you of what a situation looks like when God is in the decision.
3.) Plus, God will blesses it and you won’ t burn out, if you wait on him before making the next move or big decision.
I hope you are challenged to live beyond the normal, beyond of how it’s always been done, and ask the Holy Spirit to give you direction in the next thing you feel inclined to do. When the Lord gives the okay to proceed, be prepared to pull in boat loads of spiritual blessings.
Luke 5: 1-11

Spirit Mode
“But you, dear friends, build yourselves up in your most holy faith and pray in the Holy Spirit.”
Jude 20
I heard little squeals of delight in between lauds of laughter. There he was again, that little boy with blond hair and freckles running around in a room with an image of the Holy Spirit following him around. I’d never seen anything like it. He was allowing the little boy to be caught up in his moment of glee. The little guy looked to be around 6 years of age now and was followed by his dark curly haired sister. They both were experiencing something I hadn’t in awhile. Joy, where did mine go? And who are these little munchkins? They’ve reoccurred in my dreams for at least 4 or 5 years. I’ve watched them grow up from the time they were taken from their family, and each episode has been in a dream.
I asked the Lord, What am I suppose to do with these dreams. I heard, “Rejoice and pray.” I don’t understand all of it but choose to pray anyway. He leads me in prayer this way, just as the bible teaches to pray, allowing the Holy Spirit to give me what He wants me to pray for.
He will feed you the prayer request. You just sit, take a couple of deep breaths, relax and ask the Lord, to show you what He would like you to pray for today. It’s beautiful to communicate with the Lord on this level. It may take a few times before you get in the mode.
Jude verse 20 says, “But you, dear friends, build yourselves up in your most holy faith and pray in the Holy Spirit.”
The Greek word translated “pray in” can have several different meanings one being, with the help of.
It does exactly what the first part of the verse says, it builds you up. You feel more confident in a non prideful way and full of joy and it can soothe your anxiety.
The Lord wants much more from us then just what we see and what we experience in our daily encounters with those who we minister to and those we fellowship with, one being attentive to what He wants from you.
Being in the Spirit reminds me of those art pictures you look at, where on the surface there is a bunch of patterned images all the same. When you stare at it long enough and allow your mind to “Get in the zone,” You’ll see what’s behind the patterned surface of the art piece
You can experience this yourself with Magic Eye books offered on Amazon.com
The art type is commonly searched as Beyond 3D art or 3D Illusions.
Magic eye images offer a level of mindfulness that will leave you relaxed, amazed, breathless and refreshed, all at the same time. The first time you try it, it may take you 10 minutes or longer to see the hidden art. But if you keep putting effort into it a few times a day, it eventually becomes effortless.
Have you ever prayed to the Holy Spirit with the same way you look at the 3D illusions, and was it a similar euphoria as a magic eye picture?
Closing your eyes and allowing the Holy Spirit to lead your prayer life can bring a whole new level to communicating to the Lord and will leave you more relaxed, amazed, breathless and refreshed, then an art piece. It will remind you that Spirit led prayers can be just as important than a prayer list and will bring you just as much joy as a child does in their moment of glee.
God Speed in your prayer life. This is where it gets fun!
