Yu Hua Ho

Hooray, I got into the Mentorship in 2024. I can’t believe I made it at the beginning! I am so happy. It is a good opportunity to work with . Thank you again for giving me this opportunity. I am already diving into a new project and excited to see how it grows.

Character Design - In this journey, I found that I have no idea how to draw hands and feet. For that reason, I have to do some research before I draw a human feature. I think that is the reason why I find making illustrations so interesting, because when you encounter a new problem, you have to figure it out. During this process, you will learn how to improve your skills in drawing a character, which may lead to different ideas. I love it so much. By the way, spring is coming; the wildflowers are so beautiful in the UK.

Spring is coming, and the yellow flowers are beginning to show. I feel so happy when I walk on the street, especially when I see a lot of yellow flowers on the ground. It’s such a beautiful day.

好喜歡這些黃色小花， 總是可以長成一整片。

Character development—I am looking forward to seeing the changes in a little boy. I had such fun playing around with Chinese water paint and pencil colors. It always pushes me to think more and encourages me to develop various expressions. I'm trying to create more drawings, but I only have a limited amount of time for drawing. Even though the updates were slow, I will try my best to make the story come true.

At the same time, it can be as soft and watery as watercolor. However, depicting human features is a huge challenge for me. Before achieving the desired results, I have been practicing drawing hands and feet, but it is still far from being perfect.

Exploring new media, I am so surprised at how wonderful Chinese painting is with its colors. Compared to watercolor, it shows more saturation. At the same time, it can be as soft and watery as watercolor. However, depicting human features is a huge challenge for me. I can’t wait to share this new drawing done with oil pastels and colored pencils. I have been keeping this story in my mind for a long time, and I am sure it is time to share it. It reminds me of our learning process, when you work so hard but the story and the character aren’t exactly what you like; that’s because it wasn’t yet the right time. When the time is right, the character will emerge, and the story will flow automatically.

不論是技術或是故事或是能力，當是時候了，就會自己慢慢顯現出來了吧！

2024 wishes

- Be confident
- Be kind
- Be loved

This year will mark a different journey in my life. I acknowledge that life can be disappointing and frustrating at times, but it’s okay to feel down, and it’s okay to take a step back. Amidst it all, never forget to have confidence in your passions, be kind to others, and love yourself.

I had an incredible year in 2023. I finished my degree in children’s book illustration. I was a bit nervous and lonely during the first year of studying. I thought I wouldn’t be able to make it, but luckily, my friends and tutors were so supportive. I feel loved. Looking forward to 2024. It may be another challenge, but I think I have more confidence to face it.

It was supposed to be done before Christmas, but I failed. I am still not active on social media, even though I know that I should be doing more. In 2024, I hope to become more positive and confident in my drawing. I wish that one day my passion for drawing can become a job that will support my life. #2024

As the year comes to an end, I reflect on a wonderful 2023. Let’s stay positive and patient as we approach 2024. We don’t have to be perfect, but let’s continue working on the creative process.

When people ask me when the best season is to visit Taiwan, I always answer them “Winter”. It is the best season to walk slowly in the narrow street, you may get lost in Tainan City, but you will find an unpredictable view at the end. However, this coffee shop is hiding in the narrow street, so you may have to spend a little time to find it but promise me not to give up. Because you will regret it if you don’t come to see the exhibition and enjoy their coffee. (I am kidding.😂）
 
The exhibition will open tomorrow, opening for everyone. so please do not hesitate to come. And don’t forget to enjoy your brunch there because they have the best dishes in the world.

【Introduction】
 
“Shh! The Secret Adventure.” will be a children’s book aimed at increasing children’s awareness of environmental issues. This is a story about a baby chimpanzee trying to escape from the zoo in the middle of the city. During the chimpanzee’s escape, he deals with many challenges, such as air pollution, mudslides, and water pollution. The reader will learn about these serious environmental issues through the fun, unpredictable adventure of the Chimpanzee. I will be exploring a mixed-media style in my picture book.

“噓！一起去探險" 是一本關於環境議題的混合媒材繪本。主角黑猩猩帶領著動物園裡的小夥伴前往漂亮國度「綠色小島」，在這段旅程裡，黑猩猩與他的夥伴面臨著各種環境問題，像是空氣污染、土石流、水污染，但他們不畏任何困難，想方設法的就地取材，製造一艘垃圾船，最終達到目的地綠色小島！希望透過有趣的冒險旅程，提升小讀者的環境意識。

Mr. Giraffe riding for a whole night. he is trying to escape the dark forest. Finally, he saw the light it was a sea and the sun rose from the horizontal line.

14-Ink

Splash! Mr. Giraffe riding the bike. The strong wind flew by therefore he couldn’t hold his bike, and he went through a puddle, suddenly splashed!  it became a little ink man.
