This weekend MCTA Delegates attended the Ohio Education Association Representative Assembly in Columbus. They met on Friday to review the year and plan for next year, and then they attended the evening session of the RA. They attended the RA all day Saturday, where they voted on policy and got to see Senator Sherrod Brown. Thank you, Delegates, for giving your weekend to serve our students and members.
It's dissection week in the high school biology department, and Mrs. Frawley's students are all in for it. Thank you, Medina Teachers, for giving our future scientists and doctors a hands-on opportunity to practice science!
Medina Teachers also serve students as coaches and advisors. Congratulations to Mr. Douglas, Mr. Mohn, and Mr. Bracken for their hours of work outside of the school day to make this outstanding production of The Prom happen. They all deserve Dazzle awards!

MCTA hosted our end of year celebration at Buffalo Wild Wings. We awarded our teachers who have reached their 5, 10, 15, 20, 25, 30 year mark of service, and we welcomed our retirees. We are a family, and WE ARE MEDINA!
This has been a busy week for MCTA. Wednesday was our General Assembly, and Saturday MCTA delegates attended the North Eastern Ohio Education Association Representative Assembly.

We also hear from Medina City Teachers Association President David Hamman about how that local was empowered to take the lead in its own professional development, and why this PD Day was such a success for the MCTA's 470 members.

On January 24th, and February 29th Broadway Creek Senior Living residents visited Medina High School for the Senior Citizen Seminar. Organized by teachers Katie Shaffer and Vic Kaplack, each month seniors visit MHS to meet with students who showcase the learning they are doing in their classrooms. During these seminars, students from Marcie Komar's Spanish class showed residents how to make a Spanish "fortune teller." Art teacher Lauren Smith had some of her art students practice printmaking and painting with watercolor pencils with our senior visitors, while Melissa Maxwell's photography class showed them how to edit photos. A big thank you to all the students who participated; Addyson Meyers, CJ Jordan, Blair Crandall, Hannah Faulkner, Marissa Nugent, Kaitlin Frimel, Serene Rocha, Charlotte Hobbes, Katelyn Scheiber, Triton Rupert, Madilyn Niehaus, Beckett Vogrin, Addy Shook, Meagan Beidelschies, and Becca Ambrosetti. We are looking forward to their visit in April!
Did you know that North Eastern Ohio Education Association sponsors free professional development for educators? MCTA representatives Rob Thompson and Stephani Itibrout spent Saturday morning learning about the current use of AI in education at NEOEA's Megaconference.

Medina City School District slashes budget to stay in the black The Ohio Department of Education and Workforce placed Medina City Schools on “precaution status” after the district’s most recent five-year financial forecast projected a budget deficit in year three.
Today Medina Educators met for professional development sponsored by the Medina Teachers Association and the Ohio Education Association. We learned about the Code of Conduct regarding online presence from Ellen Adornetto, and we practiced de-stressing techniques with Taraja Shephard Allen.

Medina Teachers actually won all the Spirit Games at the Mr. Medina rally, but there was a very biased judge.
This week students in Mrs. Itibrout's AP classes and Mr. Wetherbee's Honors Sophomore Language Arts classes teamed up with actors from Great Lakes Theater to perform and discuss scenes from Hamlet and Macbeth. They had fun with costumes and props and discussed the universality of Shakespeare's themes.

Students in Mr. Haramis' Wild America class traveled to Cuyahoga Valley National Park to see first-hand some of the environmental history of the area. Students met with park rangers to discuss the role of the National Park Service in many things, including the cleanup of a toxic waste dump under the Federal Superfund Act. They also visited structures and features built by the young men of the Civilian Conservation Corps during the Great Depression and hiked along the Ledges trail, They ended the trip with a short visit to Lock 29, part of the historic Ohio and Erie Canal and a slight detour past a Hopewell Indian mound.
