Fishy Vegetarian
Hi! We're L.J & Tamryn! We created Fishy Vegetarian to share simple, delicious recipes and tips to help ease you into the pescetarian lifestyle.
The FV Philosophy:
A fishy vegetarian plain and simply loves to have fun in the kitchen with whole fresh foods and seafood. They love spending time in the great outdoors, and get high on getting their hands all muddy while planting fresh greens, and vegetables. And don’t be surprised if you see them at the farmers market every Saturday morning picking up the freshest of fresh for the week ahead.
Happy New Year pescatarian fam! 🥂🍾
Hope your 2021 has been off to a good start so far.
And hey, even if it hasn't... that's okay.
There are still well over three hundred and sixty-something days left in the year.
So, you've got time 😉
If we surprised you today by popping up on your feed, you have a right to be surprised!
No... our posts haven't been muted for you.
We simply haven't been posting at all!
That's the truth.
Call it life, call it busy with other projects, call it what you want...
We neglected this page and our website, but that is something we're working on as we step into a new year.
When we first started Fishy Vegetarian back in 2015 we were SO excited and posted a ton back then.
We were new to the pescatarian lifestyle, and were still learning.
Well, fast forward a few years, and we've fallen into a comfortable groove as pescatarians, recently having passed our 5-year mark as pescatarians!
"Do you miss meat?" is a question we both get a lot!
Tamryn would say she misses turkey the most because of the tryptophan.
And me (LJ), I wouldn't say I miss meat at all anymore.
Neither of us has a desire to have meat any longer.
I supposed it comes with time!
Since the beginning we've said we're not going on a "pescatarian diet" but rather embracing a new lifestyle.
We'll be posting an "update" blog of sorts soon on our website, so look out for that.
In the meantime, check out the fresh links in our bio section.
Looking forward to growing this little community in 2021, and meeting more of you this year!
Feel free to introduce yourself in the comments, tell us where you're from, and when you decided to become a pescatarian (and why if you feel inclined!).

21 Pescatarian Crock Pot Recipes In this article I’m going to share with you 21 pescatarian crock pot recipes that will make cooking super easy, whether you’re meal planning or just in the mood for something delicious. If you’re like me,
It's about time we re-introduce ourselves!
We're Tamryn & L.J., your fearless leaders
As you can tell we try not to take ourselves too seriously 😜
Tamryn is the nutritionist, she'll bring you all the "nutritiony" stuff(yes i made up that word) ...
aka all the stuff that will teach you about living a healthy lifestyle.
And I'm L.J., I like to consider myself a bit of an amateur chef.
And by "amateur" I mean, when I moved out at 20 I barely knew how to boil an egg!
Thankfully we've both learned how to put tasty, and nutritious meals together in a flash.
And you get to reap from those benefits 😉, lucky you!
We aren't here to peddle the pescatarian way of life on you.
We get that every single person on earth is on their OWN unique journey, so who are we to judge?
There's too much divide already in the world, we're not about to add to those rifts.
Sure, we'll certainly share what we found is good for US.
But, we encourage you to take what you need, and leave the rest.
The "pescatarian" label just so happens to suit the way we define what we eat.
But it does not define us.
When we first started FV, it was more of a hobby, but over the last couple years we've seen the growth in the pescatarian community.
So, to do our little part, we share helpful articles on our website (fishyvegetarian.com) and we have free resources available for you there too.
Anyway, if you've got down this far, here's a gold star 💫!
You can learn more about us if you'd like (link in bio).
PS. We recently released our PESCATARIAN MEAL PLANS! 😆🍤🍳🌮🥑🍅🍾
Guess where you can grab it... IN THE BIO LINK!
We've seen quite a few new faces liking our page this past month, welcome!

You joined at a great time btw...
We just released our Pescatarian Meal Plan!
Check it out here: https://fishyvegetarian.com/nutrition/pescatarian-meal-plan/
Steak 🥩! Yum yum yum 😋 Gotcha! It’s TUNA STEAK 🥩 🐟 This is definitely not an everyday type of meal for us (not that we wouldn’t want it to be) because tuna is one of the larger fish 🐟 and shouldn’t be consumed in steak form more than once every couple weeks. I like to make it super simple: oregano, salt, and pepper seasoning on both sides. In the (hot) pan for quite literally 1 to 1.5 mins per side ⏰ to avoid it going tough on you. Lay it on a bed of greens 🥬 and asparagus on the side because why not and it’s a good source of grain-free carbs! As a dressing I went with a soy/ginger which is heaven (I’ll get back to you on the brand...) Tappity tap tap if you could go for this right now!
A balanced meal fit for a pescatarian queen or king 👑! On this plate you’ve got baked yams 🍠 and asparagus (healthy carbs), topped with smoked mussels and two fried eggs 🍳 (fats and protein). If mussels aren’t your thing, feel free to omit them completely to make it a vegetarian friendly dish! There’s also h**p seeds on top yum yum 😋
Most people go into a new diet with one of the following intentions:
🔸to lose weight
🔸to gain muscle
🔸to have more energy
🔸medical issues
But unfortunately, despite trying for a few weeks (or even months), research shows that the majority of those people fail.
Making the transition to becoming a pescatarian is no different.
If you’re not doing it for the right reasons, it’s going to be tough.
But…
I feel confident in the fact that you’re here right now.
Most people coast through life blissfully unaware of what they’re putting into their body until illness hits and they’re forced to make a change.
Since you landed on this post of mine, I feel confident that you’re aware and open a lifestyle change.
That’s really what this is after all.
Here at Fishy Vegetarian, we don’t prescribe to any sort of “diet” – oh no – just like Rome wasn’t built in a day… your lifestyle need not be either!
With that said, let’s get to it, shall we?
In this article, I’ve prepared for you my ten best steps for making the transition to a pescatarian lifestyle much smoother, more manageable, and perhaps even more inviting!

My blueberry loving nephew, Rowan, reminding me to get active again on FV! 2019 is going to be a big year here on FV ...lots to come! If you haven’t already, please search “Fishy Vegetarian” on Facebook and join our community for the total price of zero dollars! - 🐠 😉
I like to simplify things when it comes to lunch 🥗 ... if it takes me 10 mins or less to prepare it’s a winner! Here’s a super simple tip you can take to go today: grab your greens (anything will work - kale, spinach, etc), sauté them with onion and garlic. Then add in one or two of your favourite veggies ... I went with mushroom s here. And voila - warm salad perfect for those icy ❄️ cold days ahead 👌 I’m going to top this with a sprinkling of brain happy B12 from good ol, cheezy nutritional yeast! 🧀 If you need something a bit more filling, add some plant or fish protein on the side - sardines, 🍳, canned salmon, chickpeas... your options are endless!

Fishy Vegetarian Hi! We're L.J & Tamryn! We created Fishy Vegetarian to share simple, delicious recipes and tips to h
Patiently we were waiting for good ‘ol J-Trudeau to make good on his promise and low and behold here we are 🤩Happy to everyone in our home and native land 🇨🇦 ✌️ Yes, we are pot users, no we’re not bad people 😜🌱 is the best medicine
If you’re not adding spinach 🍃to all your pasta dishes 🍝 are you really doing pasta right? 🤔 This is a K.I.S.S (keep it simple silly) kinda dish ... that probably will get your a real 💋 when you serve it up to those you love! We used a lentil flour based pasta, and tossed it with some zucchini, colourful tomatoes 🍅, garlic, and dried basil 🌿 And spinach of course. See? Simple! 📚- mark this post to try later!
We were just boinking our heads together and thinking 🤔... reflecting really, on what inspired us the most when we started our healthy journey 🧘🏼♀️👩🏽🌾We both had our own personal motivations/purposes (this is very important) of course, but the other thing that helped us stay the course and embrace a healthy lifestyle (NOT diet), was seeing other people’s stories of transformation🦋... and not just in the physical sense... the mind and lifestyle transformations as well. So what better way to make use of our page than to start sharing posts like this one from Brandon aka ... perhaps you’ll find inspiration in his story, or the stories to follow! Enjoy and do follow along with his journey! 🤟 PS. Reach to us if you’re interested in us sharing your story... no matter where you are in your journey. We’d love to feature you! 💙

Brandon: “This year I quit smoking, quit drinking soda, stopped eating meat, started doing yoga and going to the gym daily, and started a new career, all at 36 years old! Each one of these things has led to the next. Start with a small change and you never know what it may lead to!”
Way back when in 2013 we spent the whole year flip flopping, yo-yo-dieting , you name it we did it. But what kept happening time after time was we’d try one diet and ALWAYS end up giving in to 🍟 and 🍔 and 🍭 every. single. time. What’s worse was every time we’d fail we’d go into this cycle of doom because without fail we’d start talking nonsense like “okay next time we’re gonna be even MORE STRICT with our diet 🦖💪no sugar no dairy no meat no everythinggg ... just air!” and so the cycle started again. Fail. New diet. Fail. New diet. Fail. 👎What we didn’t realize then that we do now was that the constant failure was leading us somewhere pretty freakin special. Somewhere where we finally realized that failure doesn’t mean beating yourself to death with negative self talk 🗣❌👂 Somewhere where we could live in a world where we didn’t want to diet. We wanted to LIVE. And so we stopped dieting and started making small, 👶🏽 baby sized changes which ultimately led to the lifestyle we live and love in now 🤟 Lemme wrap this up by saying ... if you find yourself giving up meat 🍖, sugar 🍬 , gluten 🍞 .. or whatever it may be and seem to be falling off the wagon constantly... stand back, breeeeathe🙏, and realize the beauty you’re experiencing. You get to do it again, learning from what didn’t work last time. Don’t beat yourself up ❌👊 Don’t place extra restrictions on yourself. Live in the beauty of failure. Like Edison who failed 10,000 times before inventing the light 💡 and like Aaliyah sang, 🎶If at first you don’t succeed, dust yourself off and try again - 🤟👩🏽🌾
To the average person this might look 👀 like a pulled pork roll. But then again you’re not average. You’re a meat-free pescatarian and we don’t do 🐷 around these parts! No sir! So what is this sorcery🧙♀️ you see in this photo you ask? Ahh... come a little closer let me whisper in your ear ... 🌬... this is the jack of all fruits my friend, JACKFRUIT with BBQ sauce 🤯 If there was any time I could venture into the future and bring you eat-A-gram it would be NOW b/c you’ve gotta taste this!! Then again it’ll probably gone by the time I hit “send” 😋
It’s so true! 👌Way back when (2014 and prior) we approached veggies like pretty much 90% of the population... a side dish to meat and carbs🍗🥔🥗. An after thought! And guess what we felt like $h1t most of the time because of it😵... we didn’t know that then of course. Like Tamryn said in her recent post on her personal IG () ... the food you eat quite literally affects your mental state 🧠🤯! SO if you wanna feel like Rafiki 🐒 over here and ZEN out, simply eat more veggies! 🥦🥒🥝🥕🍋 🤩 Veggies are high vibration foods so your energy will raise on up and you’ll feel on top of the world🌍my friend! Start by having ONE green smoothie🥤per day packed in leafy greens 🍃and your veggies of choice, check out our SMOOTHIE highlight for ideas 💡🤟 PS. what are your favourite veggies? 🍅
This man would have been 100 years old today! 🎈🎉Both of us are proud South Africans, and Nelson Mandela is a major reason why 🤟🇿🇦 One of my all time favourite quotes was spoken by him and I remind myself of it every time I think of why I’m following my passion, turning it into purpose, and not settling even through hard (and there have been many!) times! The quote goes 💭“There is no passion to be found playing small - in settling for a life that is less than the one you are capable of living.”💭
Sometimes a little perspective ⛰ and love punch 🥊 to the gut is all we need to see the beauty we hold within and on the outside 🤩 If you’ve made it this far down, tell us, what part of your ideal body are you most grateful for today? 💃🏽🕺🏻
🇨🇦 Happy Canada Day‼️🇨🇦 Feeling grateful today to live and love in this free country! 🐻🐿🍁🌎🏒🎉❤️🇨🇦
When you go to your happy place during a heat wave ☀️ 🧘🏽♀️ What are you guys doing this weekend? It’s Canada 🇨🇦Day long weekend up north and we’re dropping about a pound a minute with this heat 🤣😥 so the best thing is probably to channel this sweet little girl, munch on some frozen grapes 🍇,and smoothie it up! 🍹 We’re looking for some new smoothie ideas 💡 - drop in the comments if you have any! 👇🙏🥤🍏🥥🥝
🌱How do you do your part to keep the earth healthy?🌱
▫️
Recently I discovered we were contributing to the extreme amounts of waste created by not recycling properly 🗑️😥
▫️
This was recently brought to my attention in an article posted by titled "Many Canadians are recycling wrong, and it's costing us millions 🇨🇦💸"
▫️
We've been recycling for years as most people do, but did you know that even the smallest bit of residue left in containers like a little bit of left over yoghurt means certain contamination and prevents tonnes and tonnes of paper from being recyclable? 😲
▫️
This shocked me because while I always clean tins like tuna and sardine, i had NO idea that according to the article, "Something as simple as a piece of paper with a coffee ☕ stain on it — that piece of paper a year ago would have been recyclable...today that's actually garbage 🚮" ▫️
🤯Tap Tap If your mind is as blown as mine was reading that!🤯
▫️
On this earth day, I felt compelled to share this with you guys, maybe you're already recycling the proper way, maybe you've just learned something new! Either way, spread the knowledge 🤓 for mother earth 🌎
▫️
✌️ - 👩🏽🌾
🌍 It's Earth Day!🌎 ▫️
"I have no country to fight for; my country is the earth, and I am a citizen of the world." - Eugene V. Debs
What a privilege we have to live on this beautiful planet and what a responsibility we have to make her whole again.
Every once in a while you have a bite of food that gives you a foodgasm of epic proportions.
You know the kind 😉
Your eyes roll back, you knees buckle and the “mmmmmmm” sounds come rolling out of your mouth uncontrollably 🤤🤪 That’s what this salmon burger will do for ya! It’s got: 🥑 ,🍍, 🐟, and more goodies! 👉Grab or should we say GRUB the recipe over at fishyvegetarian.com/recipes
