Happy Friday Afternoon, Bosque County!

It's hard to believe this is February! The beautiful weather looks to continue through the weekend and well into next week!

Heads up>>>we will, see an ELEVATED RISK OF WILDFIRES on Monday and Tuesday as warmer weather, increasing winds, and lower humidity raises our chances of fires.

If you live in Bosque County or if you're an absentee landowner, we understand the attraction to burn a little brush when the weather's great.

Remember, however, those ash piles will smolder for weeks just waiting for a warm breezy day to blow hot embers into a wildfire.

Remember, if you light it, you own it even if you thought it was out and headed back home.

Let's let our volunteer firefighters enjoy this nice weather too!

A Big Thank You to all the Departments that helped us.
Thank you to the Sheriff’s Department for their help in evacuating and closing down 174 to keep people and the firefighters safe.
Thank you to BEST for keeping us Hydrated
Thank you to the TFS and TIFMAS for the quick response.
Special Thanks to the Bosque County Office of Emergency Management for helping with command it was a little challenging at times.
GOD Bless everyone that Helped

Sorry for the lack of updates from the scene but I’m just now getting a little free time.

I’m beyond impressed with the work of 10 of our VFDs on the wildfire near Kopperl.

As many of you may have noticed from the pictures floating around out there, this fire was a challenging one. There were a number of structures threatened along with campers and RVs inside of Kimball Bend Park.

When the fire jumped 174, our firefighters switched gears and went strictly into evacuation of the park and structure protection mode.

We’re happy to report that there were no injuries and no structures were lost.

We called for the Texas Forest Service early on for assistance with dozers and aircraft. When they arrived, our VFDs had the forward progress of the fire stopped. Four dozers along with a number of fire trucks and two helicopters arrived from the TFS along with two Strike Teams from TIFMAS.

Ground crews are currently cutting a containment line around the entire fire perimeter. When complete, the TFS and TIFMAS firefighters will leave for the night. Bosque County VFD units will remain on scene through the night to ensure no fire jumps the containment lines.

Many firefighters will be back in the morning to continue mop up duties.

BIG shoutout once again to firefighters from Kopperl, Lakeside Village, Brazos Point, Morgan, Steele Creek, Walnut Springs, Iredell, Meridian, West Shore, and Clifton. They did outstanding work! AND Thank You, once again to our rehab team BEST!

Good Morning Bosque County!

Just a quick update on our Wildfire Risk for today.

The RED FLAG WARNING will resume at 1 pm today (Wednesday) and will remain in place through 1 am Thursday morning. We expect this trend to continue through the weekend.

Do not assume that because the WARNING doesn't officially go into effect until 1 this afternoon, there is no risk before! Bosque County is still under a BURN BAN and our Deputies are strictly enforcing the ban!

One of our biggest issues occurs when someone thinks it's OK to burn overnight or in the early morning because the winds are calmer and temperatures are cooler. WRONG! Those ashes will smolder for hours, days, weeks, and in some cases, months, just waiting for a little wind mixed with low humidity to fan those embers into a raging wildfire.

None of us wants to be responsible for burning down homes, barns, killing livestock, destroying agricultural income, etc.!

PLEASE be careful with anything that could spark a wildfire!

:::NOTICE:::

The National Weather Service in FW has issued a RED FLAG WARNING effective Tuesday afternoon from 1 pm until 1 am Wednesday morning.

This is serious stuff, folks! We can't stress enough how careful we all need to be with anything that could spark a wildfire.

Our most likely culprets are dragging trailer chains or other metal scrap, throwing cigarette butts out of car windows, overheating trailer brakes or wheel bearings, improperly burning trash or welding, parking in tall grass with your car running, and cutting hay or shredding pastures.

I think you all get the idea. This is the time to be extra cautions and to watch out for each other.
