Bring your questions, comments, and join in the discussion of your "need to knows" about the Superfund site.

The Royal Gorge Regional Museum & History Center will be hosting a panel presentation on Saturday, March 30th at 1pm with members of Colorado Citizens Against ToxicWaste (CCAT) regarding the local Lincoln Park – Cotter Superfund Site and its 40-year history.

Colorado Citizens Against ToxicWaste (CCAT) members Carol Dunn, Chase Patterson, Emily Tracy, and Jeri Fry will be part of the panel presentation. CCAT has curated a visual history of the Cotter Corporation site, including the timeline of the development of the use of the atom to generate electrical power, and its use as a weapon of war.

The mission of CCAT has always been to educate the community living with this Superfund site. Community members will have an opportunity to comment and ask questions about the impact of this ongoing “geologic feature” on the health of the citizens, economic development, and desirability of living in Fremont County. The panel discussion is free and open to the public and will touch on all these topics in relation to the cleanup process.

The museum and history center is located in the City of Cañon City’s former Municipal Building at 612 Royal Gorge Boulevard. The hours of the museum and history center are Wednesday through Saturday, 10:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. For more information, call the museum at (719) 269-9036 or send an email to [email protected].

24/02/2024

Several CCAT people will be at the Museum to discuss the history of the site.

Join us at the Royal Gorge Regional Museum & History Center for this interesting event. This month's special “Community Coffee and Conversation” topic is “Memories of Lincoln Park Residents about Cotter and the Superfund” on Saturday, Feb. 24th at 10 am. There is no registration required, and the event is free and open to the public. Coffee and donuts will be provided by the museum.

In 2024 the Cotter Corporation location has been a Superfund site for 40 years. Generations of Lincoln Park residents and Cotter employees have come and gone. The memories and stories are being lost and deserve to be remembered and preserved for future generations.

We would like to document these stories in an unbiased, respectful, and factual manner. As the EPA goes forward with the cleanup activities at the site, the experiences need to be part of the record. All information will honor the people and inform the process of restorative justice for the Lincoln Park community.

For more information, please call the museum at (719) 269-9036 or send an email to [email protected]. Interested citizens may also contact Colorado Citizens Against Toxic Waste at ccatoxicwaste.org

📢 Exciting News from Colorado Citizens Against Toxic Waste (CCAT)! 📢

CCAT’s goal is to educate ourselves and our community about the historical radioactive industrial operations at the Cotter Superfund site that still threaten our environment, property values, health, economy, tourism industry, and social well-being. The Superfund cleanup process is moving closer to solutions when the community will participate in the decisions about the site. Twenty-plus years after our formation, we continue to share essential information from the EPA and CDPHE via the media, special meetings, newsletters, local and national events, FACEBOOK, and our website. 🌿💻

We are excited to update our logo, masterfully designed by Erica Haferkamp, the Creative Director at Sagentic Web Design and DARE Print & Sign Co. 🎨 Her incredible talent and understanding of our vision have resulted in a vibrant, dynamic logo that perfectly represents CCAT's commitment to vigilance.🏞️

And that's not all!
Our team has been working tirelessly behind the scenes on a brand-new website. Our aim? To provide you with a more engaging, informative, and user-friendly platform where you can stay updated on the Superfund issues and meetings, contribute to our cause, and join our volunteer community.

The website is currently under construction, but we promise it will be worth the wait. So, stay tuned! We can't wait to share our new online home with you.💻🚀

Remember, together we can demand the best cleanup for the Lincoln Park / Cotter Superfund site. Our legacy can be making sure that future generations will have clean water and safe air to breathe here in Fremont County 💧🏔️
