THE OUTSTANDING ALUMNI AWARDS
The Outstanding Alumni Awards recognize and celebrate the many achievements of SCLS/SLMP/USI-Pili graduates, both professionally and personally for outstanding contributions to their profession, community and the advancement of society.
Nominations are generally open each year between June to October. Deadline for nominations this year will be on November 15, 2023. Nomination forms are available at Evangelical Christian School c/o Mr. Hope Mangubat, or at USI-Pili Campus c/o Mr. Ronald Valerio and may be submitted to any of them before the deadline of nominations. Mechanics and nomination form may also be downloaded through the Alumni Association FB Page.
Eligibility
• To be eligible, nominees must be a graduate of SCLS/SLMP/USI-Pili Campus.
• The nominee must strongly adhere to the Vincentian principles and ideals, to wit: respect for human dignity, respect for integrity of creation, compassionate service, co-responsibility, simplicity, social commitment, solidarity and moral integrity,
• Achievements attained before graduating from SCLS/SLMP/USI-Pili will be taken in to consideration, but there must be achievements demonstrated in the years after graduation.
• Graduates do not have to be working in the particular discipline from which they graduated.
• Former nominations that were unsuccessful may be resubmitted by including any updated information since the previous nomination.
• Nominations can be made by any member of the community including: SCLS/SLMP/USI-Pili alumni, staff, students, family, friends and business associates.
• Self–nominations are accepted if a letter of endorsement is included from another person stating why they believe the nominee is eligible.
Award categories
The categories for the Outstanding Alumni Awards are delineated in thematic terms rather than along professional lines, and may include, but not limited to the following:
• Good governance
• Public Service
• Poverty alleviation and human development
• Peace and social cohesion
• Gender equality or women empowerment
• Community empowerment
• Environmental conservation and sustainable development
• Entrepreneurship and employment creation
• Corporate social responsibility
• Culture and the arts
• Science and technology
• Educational innovation
• Public health promotion
• Religious practice
Note: A post-humus award may also be given to individuals but must also go through the nomination and selection process.
Nominators do not need to nominate for a specific award category, as the judging panel will determine which categories the nominees are most suited for.
Not all categories must be awarded in any given year and will depend on the calibre of nominations.
Other fields or areas of award may be considered as defined by the achievements of a deserving nominee.
Selection criteria
Please address the relevant selection criteria below with specific examples:
• Demonstrated excellence in their field (professional, academic, research or community)
• Demonstrated leadership, integrity and innovation
• Evidence of contribution to and recognition by their profession or community at a local, national or international level.
Note: a nominee must have at least 70% of the total score as set forth in the evaluation form.
Other considerations
To assist with assessing and comparing nominations, the judging panel may also take into account:
• Degree of difficulty of the achievement and sacrifices made
• Volunteer work
• Achievements as an individual or as part of a group or organization
• Nature and length of activity or service
• Contribution and/or service to SCLS/SLMP/USI-Pili Campus
• Active membership in the association
Nomination process
To give a nominee the best support, please provide the following documentation:
• Completed Nomination Form
• A current CV and other relevant supporting documentation (up to a maximum of 5), such as media coverage and information on previous awards and recognition.
• A statement of support (500-1000 words) with clear examples of how the nominee meets the selection criteria and how they have gone beyond what could be reasonably expected of someone in that position.
A nominee may be asked to clarify or submit further information as required.
Selection process
• The Alumni Awards Committee and the General Alumni Association officers (or representative) review the nominations. Recipients are then agreed upon and submitted to the Sister Servant and Alumni Association President (or representative) for final consideration and approval.
• If a nominator is on the judging panel, their interest should be declared.
• If a nominee is on the judging panel, they are not able to vote for their own nomination.

Elmundo “EL” Garing’s AVP of career highlights and achievements
Elmundo “EL” Garing is an artist who graduated from SCLS Batch 88. He is a UST-Fine Arts graduate mentored by Hal Santiago (one of the best comics illustrator in our country) and by Francisco Coching (Philippines National Artist for Visual Arts). He worked in the animation industry in the late 2000 and by 2001 work in China and Hongkong as an artist until 2008. He migrated to America by 2009 and worked as a comics illustrator. He was asked by Legendary Comics to handle the classic Bram Stoker’s Dracula as an illustrator. The project ran for 4 years in production and when it was released last November 2020, it became a big hit internationally. It was distributed worldwide and held the record of Amazon’s best seller horror graphic novel for a solid month. It won an award for Best Graphic Novel from Rondo Hatton Classic Horror Award. He was a guest speaker at the San Diego Comic Convention International last July 2022. He was an illustrator in the Netflix series Lost in Space Ultimate collection and one of the illustrators in Guillermo Del Toro’s Pacific Rim: Tales from the Drift. He recently appeared as a guest in Eat Bulaga last June 2021.
