KW Rowing Club

KW Rowing Club

After many years serving the KW area, the KWRC has closed it's doors for good in 2020. Please see our post for further information. Names?

Fitness, fun and great scenery along the Grand River were three good reasons to join the Kitchener Waterloo Rowing Club Any suggestions for what was the former KWRC facility? If you are interested in reviving the sport of rowing in the Kitchener Waterloo area, please fill out the survey. This would involve starting up a new club, new shells and hopefully a safe, dry and better same location. http

Canadian news is starting to vanish from Instagram. Google is next. Here's how to find CBC as that happens | CBC News 05/07/2023

In regards to Meta and now Google's decision about blocking Canadian news, I am angry that they consider their business above the law.

IF Canadians with pages decided to start reporting each and EVERY paid advertising published on their Facebook feed, we could effectively use our collective Canadianism to hit the pockets of Meta. You can do this by blocking ads on your page:

All you have to do is to
1. Leave a message on the ad that you will be blocking them to protest Mega's blocking of Canadian news on Facebook and Instagram, and state that you're reporting it as "Canadian news". Then wait for a few minutes for it to get placed on their feed.
2. On the top of the ad, tap the three dots beside the X at the top of the ad. Scroll down to "Report this ad" and choose one of the selections that will cause Facebook to take some time to look at the ad, and when/if asked why you are reporting it, use two words...."Canadian News".
3. Submit your reason.

Do the same in Instagram.

Start using DuckDuckgo as your search engine in your browsers. That can be changed in the browser settings.

Install the duckduckgo app on your phones and devices. Make it your default browser.

Send this out to your contacts by email.

Copy and repost this on your page if you feel the same. Together, we can make a difference against censorship and the dictatorship of the likes of Meta and Google. They appear to be trying to colonialize Canada and Canadians with the US.

As Canadians, let's give these mammoth companies the silence they are enforcing on Canadians.

Colonialism and censorship are coming to a platform you use... read this while you can.

Canadian news is starting to vanish from Instagram. Google is next. Here's how to find CBC as that happens | CBC News Some readers are getting a preview of what social media and search engines will look like without Canadian news as tech companies make good on threats to eliminate it from platforms following federal legislation. In the last few years of the KWRC there was talk of putting together crews to participate in this event. Sadly those dreams were sunk by factors out of our control.
Wishing every Masters, coaches, officials and volunteers for this year's event to have a great time and nothing but fantastic memories!

Missing the thrill, the competition and the friends at the regattas.

In historic first, women's rowing teams take on St. John's Regatta long course | CBC News 27/06/2022

NFLD women rowers rock on the Rock. Breaking through a barrier to do the 2,450m full course! Congratulations to those women and those who will keep rowing the distance and breaking records.

KWRC had crews of women who went from novice to medal winning in 5k "Head" races in the fall, in one short season.

If you were part of those crews, drop a memory, pictures and stories for our visitors.

Ohhhh to have been able to get this far.
KWRC is missing the water, volunteers, and rowing on the Grand.
SCRC volunteers rock!

The Henley Island Helper Booth. HIH will still be serving their famous regatta dogs this weekend but now they serve a full breakfast from 8-11 am on their patio. All $ goes back to rowing. The booth is now staffed by volunteers from the SCRC Recreation Rowing program.

25/05/2022

Well we wish you could come to the KWRC, instead we suggest you contact a few of the local clubs, like the Cambridge or Guelph clubs.
Get out on the water and give rowing a go!

SCRC with another successful Mother's Day Regatta!

Parents at the SCRC Mother’s Day regatta tried out the seating and race watching venue in front of the new training centre

Photos from Canadian Henley Rowing Corporation - CHRC's post 27/04/2022

Did you know that like the SCRC, the KWRC was also run by passionate volunteers?
BTW, we were heartbroken when we were told to leave our clubhouse.
We did however, donate as many of our shells, equipment, and cash on hand as possible to the Cambridge Rowing Club and others.
We are still heartbroken about that decision and the fact that there is now an effort to find "something to do with the space" rubs salt in our wounds.
We'll post some facts about the now dissolved KWRC over the summer.

Missing the 5 or 6am practices?

Good to see the Ottawa rowing club on the water! Have a great summer!

The KWRC would have been able to post this too, but we are permanently closed after more than 20 years. Our facility was deemed to be written off according to our sports contacts. Now we understand that they are looking for something to do with our former Club House, after renovations. 😐

A great example of how rowing creates teams that support each other and their collective club, with support from more.

In addition to the return of the Early Bird Regatta this Sunday, the Henley Island Helpers' breakfast will be back!

Weekend Preview: Early Bird Regatta Runs on Sunday - Row Ontario 22/04/2022

Ahhh, to be able to have crews on the water in Kitchener and to be able to send them back to participate in the Early Bird regatta...this brings back memories.
Those were great times.
Will rowing ever be supported in Kitchener by those who could have? It is sad that after more than 20 years of having the KWRC, it was closed because the former Club House was not going to be worked on...yet a few years later.....

World Rowing - World Rowing launches its first-ever Women in Coaching Toolkit 08/03/2022

World Rowing - World Rowing launches its first-ever Women in Coaching Toolkit World Rowing is delighted to launch its Women in Coaching Toolkit, aiming to support member federations with the recruitment, development and retention of female coaches in rowing.

Our Story

As of 2018 the club facilities were deemed to be unsafe, and the board sought out another location either where we were or anywhere along The Grand in the KW area. As a group of 5 volunteers who love rowing we worked at getting approvals for any ideas that came our way. We were not successful in our quest, and as of the start of 2020 the board has taken the steps towards a legal dissolution of the Kitchener Waterloo Rowing Club.

We hope that anyone with past experience with the club enjoyed their time there. As a board we have heavy hearts posting this, and we will keep our most positive memories with us as we hope you do as well.

We were a volunteer run and a volunteer managed club that offered a flexible method of accessing the club for members who participated in our programs.

We offered various youth rowing experiences, as well as an adult recreational program and competitive programs.

We rowed on The Grand River in Kitchener which offered up some beautiful scenery, wild life and a great place to row.

As the saying goes............ “Let’er RUN!, oars down and stop rowing”.
