SDRplay will be at HamCation, Orlando, Florida, USA, on Friday February 9th to Sunday February 11th.

Come and see Steve, KI5ENW demonstrating what’s new from SDRplay, including the latest features in our multiplatform SDRconnect and server software, and the new RSP1B. Maybe you have friends visiting the show who can pick up a new RSP for you at special show rates? Otherwise it’s a great place to come and learn more about SDRs. Steve will also be giving a presentation on Saturday 10th in Room CS2 at 9.15am – covering the basics of SDRs and how they have evolved from simple dongles. More details can be found here: https://www.hamcation.com/forums-speaker-info?event=31

On Thursday 8th February, for anyone in town early, HRO will be having a special open day at their store in Orlando. They promise to offer some good deals. Steve from SDRplay will be there as well, answering questions and running SDRplay demonstrations. The address is 521 E State Rd 434 #1009, Winter Springs, FL 32708, USA.

Black Cat Systems have something useful for Medium wave DXers. Their “Carrier Sleuth” software provides high resolution carrier waterfalls for medium wave radio stations. It runs both on Windows and MacOS.

They write ” While you can often only hear one, or perhaps two, stations on a frequency at a time, chances are there are actually many other stations lurking on that frequency, even in the daytime. Perhaps dozens. The problem is that they are too weak to notice using normal listening techniques. There’s no audio, and even their carriers are often quite weak. But by performing very high resolution FFTs (Fast Fourier Transforms) on recordings made by SDRs (Software Defined Radios) you can extract these carriers up out of the noise and see them

…SDRs are extremely useful for the MW DXer, the entire MW band can be recorded overnight, and then examined later for stations of interest. But it can be overwhelming to go through hours of SDR I/Q recording files. The usual approach is to play the recording file back through the SDR software, looking for potentially interesting signals. This process takes hours, and you still miss things……Carrier Sleuth helps you find stations of interest. “

Software - SDRplay SDRplay SDRplay Limited

SDRplay introduces the RSP1B SDR receiver 26/01/2024

SDRplay Limited is announcing the launch of a new Software Defined Radio receiver product – the RSP1B.
The RSP1B is an enhanced version of the popular RSP1A powerful wideband full featured 14-bit SDR which covers the RF spectrum from 1kHz to 2GHz. The RSP1B comes in a rugged black painted steel case and has significantly improved noise performance. All it needs is a computer and an antenna to provide excellent communications receiver functionality. It comes with a choice of SDRunoTM for Windows and multiplatform SDRconnectTM SDR software for Windows, MacOS and Linux (supplied free of charge by SDRplay). It allows users to monitor up to 10MHz of spectrum at a time. A documented API allows developers to create new demodulators or applications around the platform.

The RSP1B has the following additional benefits compared to our lowest cost device, the RSP1A:

1. It is housed in a strong black painted steel case.
2. It has significantly improved noise performance below 1MHz (i.e. for MF, LF and below), and in the 50-60 MHz region. There are also noticeable noise improvements in the 3.5-5.5MHz and 250-320MHz spectrum.
3. It has improved signal handling at HF frequencies.

For more information, please go to www.sdrplay.com/RSP1B

As is the case for the other RSP family members, SDRplay will work with the developers of the popular third party SDR receiver software packages to maximise compatibility. SDRplay will also provide multiplatform driver and API support which includes Windows, Linux, Mac, Android and Raspberry Pi.

The RSP1B is available to purchase direct from SDRplay or from SDRplay’s authorised resellers where it is expected to retail at approximately £106 GBP or $133 USD (excluding taxes or shipping). A list of SDRplay’s authorised resellers can be found at www.sdrplay.com/distributors/

Right now (13:50 UTC, Tuesday Jan 23rd)) we are aware that the SDRplay website is down. We are working to get it restored.

17/01/2024

We’ve pushed out an updated version of SDRconnect Preview 2 to address a small number of defects identified by customers and an improved server list editor (renamed Remote Devices Editor). Thanks to everyone who tested and reported.

Changed:
• Improved Server List Editor (renamed to Remote Devices Editor)
• Renamed Global Settings to Preferences

Defects fixed:
• Mac x64 only – FFT size of 64k causes a crash
• Mac only – opening Global Settings from the system menu causes a crash
• Bandwidth limits incorrect for network audio source
• Server attempted to stream WAV file when no USB device found
• Issue with biquad filter when adjusting bandwidth in AM or SAM mode to 100 Hz

You will find this updated preview release available to download from: https://www.sdrplay.com/sdrconnect/

The SDRplay RSPduo is a dual-tuner wideband full featured 14-bit SDR which covers the entire RF spectrum from 1 kHz to 2 GHz giving 10 MHz of spectrum visibility. Combined with the power of SDRuno software for Windows, you can simultaneously monitor two completely separate 2 MHz bands of spectrum anywhere between 1 kHz and 2 GHz. The RSPduo provides three software selectable antenna inputs, and clocking features ideally suited to industrial, scientific and educational applications. All it needs is a PC and an antenna to provide excellent communications receiver functionality. A documented API allows developers to create new demodulators or applications around the platform.
