🌸SPRING🌸
The time when plants start growing and the universe is filled with energy. During spring, the air is filled with moisture and we will experience this dampness. Hello to the ‘spring cold’ 👋🏻 This dampness gets trapped in our bodies due to eating fried and fatty foods and a lack of exercise. To nourish your liver, the organ associated with spring, try this soup recipe by Rose Cheung + Genevieve Wong from their book Healing Herbal Soups 🍲

🐲 Year of the Dragon 🐲
The Lunar New Year is an ancient celebration of spring, spirituality, and rebirth. It is also said that this year brings auspicious opportunities and exciting advancements for all.
P.S. maybe wait to wash your hair for another day. Traditional Chinese belief states that washing your hair on New Year’s will wash away your good fortune. One more day of dry shampoo won’t hurt! 🧧

We are so excited to have Heather joining our team at GW! 💜She will be starting the first week of January and her books are open. Currently she will only be taking cash patients until insurance contracts are finalized. Read her bio below 😍
Heather uses the laws of nature manifested through Chinese and functional medicine to comprehensively treat fertility issues, women’s health and chronic disease. Licensed nationally by NCCAOM, and in the states of California, Utah and Michigan- Heather graduated with a Master of Science, Magne Cum Laude, from Pacific College of Oriental Medicine, San Diego, in 1999. Heather discovered the benefits of acupuncture over 25 years ago for a gynecological issue where the only treatment offered was Prozac. Heather sought the help of an acupuncturist-kinesiologist and her symptoms resolved within 2 cycles. Amazed and intrigued by this experience, she developed a deep passion for understanding the innate wisdom of the human body, which she believes is a perfectly designed biological system. A voracious learner, Heather became ABORM certified in 2009 to deepen her understanding of women’s health and returned to school again, graduating in 2021 with a Bachelor of Science, Molecular and Cellular Biology. This knowledge has given her a unique understanding of the biochemical mechanisms of disease and is an excellent educator with clients. When Heather isn’t treating patients, she is exploring nature, dancing, or getting into mischief with friends.

Do you know someone that lives alone, lost a partner, lives far from their family, etc.? Have you thought about a way to give them a gift that may help with any loneliness they may be experiencing, especially with the holidays coming up? A gift card for one of our therapies may be the perfect gift to send. Research shows that healing contact can reduce heart rate and blood pressure and help us feel calmer and less stressed. Therapeutic touch reduces the release of cortisol and has a beneficial role in our immune system. In addition, a hands-on treatment may help transmit a sense of being accepted and cared for and can reduce a sense of loneliness.
Give a gift that can directly affect one’s health, mood, and wellbeing. Gift cards may be purchased online through the link in our bio or call the office today at 616-466-4175.

Thank you to all our veterans. Saluting the brave men and women who served our country 🇺🇸
Do you have trouble falling or staying asleep? Wake up in the morning feeling groggy and not rested? Sometimes just changing small things can lead to improved sleep!
7 tips for better sleep:
- Of course our first tip is acupuncture! It’s non-invasive and proven to reduce stress, help chronic pain, and increase quality of sleep.
- Cut the caffeine in the afternoon. Did you know that having it even at 2PM can affect your sleep?
- Try restorative yoga. Practicing deep breathing and stretching before bed can relax the mind and body.
- Now this one is tricky…since our electronics, especially our phones, control our lives. It’s tempting to check your email before you fall asleep or scroll on social media, but try turning off all your electronics an hour before bed. Your brain will thank you later!
- Aromatherapy has been studied for insomnia and lavender is proven to lead to better and deeper sleep. Just sniff or rub the oil on your wrists before bed.
- Exercise regularly if you can! Even just 20 minutes of exercise a day can make a difference in your sleep.
- Cut down the alcohol intake..even if you think your glass of wine before bed helps you unwind and fall asleep. Those who drink right before bed actually are more likely to get a poorer quality of sleep. If you do drink, do so earlier in the night to ensure a deep sleep.
Sleep tight! 🌙💤

Insurance coverage for acupuncture is on the rise! 😍 Currently, we have contracts with Blue Cross Blue Shield, Optum (VA), and United Healthcare. If you have coverage under any of these companies, let us check to see if you have benefits! Have insurance with someone we aren’t contracted with? If you know you have acupuncture benefits on your plan, call your insurance company and ask if they will accept a superbill. We are more than happy to provide you with a superbill to send to your insurance for potential reimbursement.
*Before we can bill, we must collect your insurance information and verify benefits with an agent. Please call or email us prior to your appointment if you would like to use your insurance. If we do not have verification from an agent, we will collect payment at the time of service.*

Have you tried making and drinking your own bone broth? If you haven’t, you should start drinking this medicinal elixir now. The benefits are amazing! From a TCM perspective, bone broth can help boost your Qi, Blood, Yin, and Essence. If you are dealing with anything especially taxing on your body, this warm cup of goodness is for you. Bone broth can help with recovery time from an injury, improve sleep, help heal your gut, and increase the health of your hair, nails, and skin from the collagen extracted via the long cooking method. Check out the preparation below 🧡
Step 1: If you want to roast the bones first, heat the oven to 450F. Lay the bones out on a rimmed baking sheet and roast until well browned, 25 to 35 minutes.
Step 2: Put the bones (roasted or not) in the pressure cooker pot and add all the remaining ingredients. Cover with 3 to 3 ½ quarts of water (the water shouldn’t come more than two-thirds of the way up the side of the pot). To make regular stock, cook on high pressure for 1 hour if using all chicken or poultry bones, or 2 hours for beef or pork bones or a combination of poultry and meat. For bone broth, cook on high pressure for 3 hours for poultry bones, and 4 ½ hours for beef, pork, or mixed bones. When making bone broth, you’ll know you’ve cooked it long enough if all the connective tissue, tendons, and cartilage have dissolved and the bones crumble a bit when you poke at them. If this hasn’t happened, cook it on high pressure for another 30 minutes and check it again.
Step 3: Allow the pressure to release naturally. Use the broth or stock right away, or store it in the refrigerator or freezer. Bone broth and regular stock will keep for 5 days refrigerated or up to 6 months frozen.
Tip: If you'd rather use a slow cooker, c**n on low for 10-12 hours for regular stock, and 24-48 hours for bone broth.
