Rupununi Music & Arts Festival “Arts & The Environment’ Tree Planting Programme at UG
In a bold initiative to address the escalating global climate crisis, the Rupununi Music & Arts Festival continues its tree planting programme on Wednesday, February 14th, 2024, at 9:00 am. This session will take place at the University of Guyana, Turkeyen Campus, Georgetown. As part of the "Arts & The Environment" program, this project aims to plant 1000 trees throughout 2024, making a significant contribution to the fight against deforestation and environmental degradation. The Rupununi Music & Arts Festival recognises the urgent need to counteract the devastating impact of deforestation, particularly in neighbouring Brazil, where vast expanses of vital rainforests are under threat.
Global Climate Crisis: The project highlights the critical role that trees play in mitigating the effects of the global climate crisis. Trees act as carbon sinks, absorbing CO2 and releasing oxygen, playing a crucial role in combating climate change.
Environmental Conservation: With the destruction of countless trees in neighbouring Brazil, this initiative underscores the importance of safeguarding the rich biodiversity and ecological balance of the Guyanese environment.
Youth Involvement: The Rupununi Music & Arts Festival encourages the active participation of young people in this project.
Engaging the youth is paramount in fostering environmental stewardship and ensuring a sustainable future.
