Polish government wants to build its first nuclear power plant. It will be an expensive investment, but according to its supporters it will be profitable because it will pay for itself very quickly. Environmentalists, on the other hand, speak about possible environmental costs and fear that development of nuclear energy will result in lack of money for development of renewable sources.

This flexibility roadmap incorporates the findings and results of the EU-SysFlex project to provide a pathway that facilitates large-scale renewable energy integration across Europe. It is built on the SRA (scalability and replicability analysis) of solutions from the project demonstrations, the analysis and investigations on technical scarcities, system services and market designs, system operator procedures, and data management.
Overall, there are eight key messages and recommendations extracted and refined by the EU-SysFlex studies and trials, which serve as the fundamental core of this roadmap.

Over more than 4 years, the EU-SysFlex project consortium has analysed, implemented, tested and verified different dimensions of future power system complexities. The European power system flexibility roadmap incorporates the findings and results of the EU-SysFlex project. It provides a pathway that facilitates a high share of renewable energy integration across Europe. It relies on scalability and replicability of solutions from the project demonstrations, the analysis carried out on system scarcities, required mitigations and enhancement in services, market design, system operator procedures, and data management. This roadmap focuses on key pan-European challenges which must be addressed to achieve our renewable ambition.
· What issues and scarcities will the EU power system face in 2030?
· Which solutions can be deployed to mitigate the technical scarcities identified?
· How do we support an appropriate mix of technologies to provide the needed technical solutions and system services?
· How do we enable the utilisation of technical solutions and system services?

Sergio Martín, President of the Association of Environmental Sciences of Spain (ACA), assures that the concept of “energy poverty” is so broad and complex to analyze that it does not have to be only related, as it is usually thought, to income level. “You can be energy poor without knowing it”, he says.

Slovak government has publicly declared support for renewable energy sources, but investors and developers continue to face many obstacles that prevent them from investing in green energy as much as they would like. Special chapter is the persistence of technical obstacles. Without achieving their elimination or at least a major mitigation, we will not move, and our ambitions embodied in the Recovery and Resilience Plan or the National Energy and Climate Plan (NECP) will remain on paper.

Germany’s power grid is in dire need of upgrade to ensure stable supply in a country aiming to source 80% of its electricity from intermittent wind and solar by 2030.
The growing focus on electricity grids is driven by the EU’s climate targets for 2030 and 2050, which were put into law last year. The share of electricity in Europe’s energy mix needs to roughly double by mid-century in order to reach the EU’s climate goals, the European Commission estimates.
