Big news for Canadians in British Columbia! The Finance Minister announced funding that will cover one cycle of IVF for its residents beginning in 2025.

While this doesn't directly change our coverage here in Ontario, there's no doubt that movement anywhere in Canada will create ripple effects. This helps to fuel our advocacy work here in Ontario too. Fertility treatment is a priority, especially for the 1 in 6 Canadians who require help to build their families, and should be a priority for its governments as well.

Katrine Conroy teared up when delivering the announcement. Link to full video in story!

The costs for creating a family seem endless. Here are the most common expenses according to our Ontario patient survey. What were your top costs?

Did you know to reduce your wait, you can join waitlists at more than one clinic? Once your time comes, just be sure to remove yourself from other waitlists to speed up time for others.

14/02/2024

This one shocked us. We thought it would be 100%! It’s an important reminder that even “free” funded cycles come with costs. Sometimes costs that make even a funded cycle unattainable.

Progress towards more inclusive family building. The ASRM definition is now:
“Infertility" is a disease, condition, or status characterized by any of the following:
• The inability to achieve a successful pregnancy based on a patient's medical, sexual, and reproductive history, age, physical findings, diagnostic testing, or any combination of those factors.
• The need for medical intervention, including, but not limited to, the use of donor gametes or donor embryos in order to achieve a successful pregnancy either as an individual or with a partner.
• In patients having regular, unprotected in*******se and without any known etiology for either partner suggestive of impaired reproductive ability, evaluation should be initiated at 12 months when the female partner is under 35 years of age and at six months when the female partner is 35 years of age or older.

Even with government funding, fertility treatments are a financial burden. We asking the to create a fertility tax credit to complement the Ontario Fertility Program . Join us by sharing and tagging your MPP.

In fact, this should be 100%. There are still mandatory tests (like AMH blood test) and any drugs required for IVF that are not covered.

If you had a funded cycle though the OFP, what else did you have to pay for?

Thanks to cP24 for having us on to chat about our new survey results and why we are asking the Ontario Government to create a new tax credit to compliment the Ontario Fertility Program which is still leaving many people deep in debt.

A gentle reminder from our friends at Pregnancy announcements can be incredibly hard to swallow if you're struggling with infertility.

We know it can be painful to see someone else's pregnancy announcement and not be able to share that joy with them, but don't worry—you're allowed to feel that way.

But you also don't have to keep those painful feelings bottled up inside. It's so important to build a support system—whether it be with your friends, family members, therapists, coaches, or other people in your network—and put your feelings into words so that they don't bottle up inside. 💚
