Tim Lester was a star as a football player. But he stood out even more -- and made an even greater impact -- on and off the gridiron as a person.

On May 1, coaches from Milton High will pay tribute to both sides of this Pittsburgh Steeler-turned-Milton resident at a special free clinic being called "Tim Lester '34' Day."

Players in kindergarten through grade 8 will get a taste of what Lester did so often as a beloved coach following his retirement from the NFL during what's described as a "character-driven, football speed and agility camp." It will run run from noon to 2:30 at the Milton High field off Birmingham Highway.

Lester passed away last year at the age of 52.
A former NFL fullback known as “The Bus Driver” during his playing days for his years making way for NFL Hall of Famer Jerome “The Bus” Bettis, Lester settled in Milton with his family after his retirement. While here, he positively impacted hundreds of young people as a football coach, motivational speaker and role model.
