"The Catholic Christianity podcast has been doing a series on Catholic moral teaching: contraception, abortion, p**n, same-sex attraction, etc.
They’ve tried to present the Catholic teaching in a manner that is faithful, but also pastoral - and then there are interviews with people on each (other than the first) episode of season 2 discussing what it’s like to live the teachings."
If all sinners left the church, there would be no church left.
DIOCESAN ONLINE FORMATION
Dear friends, please join me for a simple way to learn more about our Catholic faith! Following the calls from around the diocese and country for more adult faith formation, the Wilcannia-Forbes Diocesan Pastoral Council decided to start an accessible program available to all online. It will involve a 40-minute Zoom session on the first Wednesday of the month, from 7:30pm. Each month, someone will present, followed by a time for questions and answers. Great for families, RCIA, teachers, lay leaders, parishioners and everyone interested! I will offer the first session to begin our liturgical year, in Advent, at 7:30pm-8:10pm on Wednesday, 6th December. My theme will be: "Liturgy - Parts of the Mass". I really hope you can join us. Carmelite Sister Marie Tania from the Carmelite monastery in Ormiston recently shared an image of Mary that she created for Carmel College on the birth of the Virgin Mary, mother of Jesus (8 September, nine months after the feast of the Immaculate Conception). 🙏 Amazing work, Sister Marie Tania!
Hospital chaplaincy has become more complex and demanding in recent years, and here in Brisbane we have found it harder to meet all the needs and challenges. That’s why I was delighted that the Camillians agreed to come to Brisbane to help with hospital chaplaincy. They were founded by the remarkable St Camillus De Lellis to tend the sick, and they’ve been doing that with God’s own tenderness for centuries. Here I am with Fr Ignatius Sibar, who was born in Indonesia but has spent quite some time in the Philippines. He joins Filipino Fr Jojo Eloja here in Brisbane, with one more priest to come. They will be living at Herston and ministering at various hospitals around the city. The warmest of welcomes to the sons of St Camillus who come to us as God’s gift…

Starting with television and then moving into the age of social media, we have seen the desperation with which people want to be seen.
Television and movies brought more people fame, which caused more people to want to be famous.
Not everyone, though, was going to make into movies or television. Social media changed all that. Now, anyone can be seen, anyone can have a platform, anyone can potentially go viral.
We equate fame with mattering or having worth. To be famous and be seen means in our minds that we made it. Just to be seen, people will sacrifice their integrity, their principles, and their reputation.
Even people who don’t want the limelight struggle with the idea that their life won’t amount to much if they quietly live out their earthly existence.
Today, is the Feast Day of St. Bartholomew, a.k.a Nathanael, one of the Twelve. We barely know anything about his life. He doesn’t get nearly the amount of coverage as St. Peter, St. John, or St. Paul in the Bible.
He gives us insight, though, into what truly matters with regards to our worth. Before he meets Jesus, he is skeptical when Phillip tells him to “come and see.” When Jesus proves that he knows him by sharing that he saw him when he was off by himself under a fig tree, Bartholomew feels known and seen.
That’s all that really matters, Catholic Pilgrims. Whether you are famous or not, whether you do big things or not, you are known and loved by Christ.
Have a blessed Thursday.
St. Bartholomew, pray for us!
“I opened my eyes and I could see perfectly,” said Jimena, a 16-year-old Spanish World Youth Day pilgrim who said she miraculously recovered her sight after receiving the Eucharist at Fátima, Portugal, during a Mass there. https://bit.ly/3KxYn9I
Today is the feast day of St. Alphonsus Liguori, born in 1696, was an Italian Catholic bishop, theologian, and founder of the Redemptorists, a religious congregation dedicated to preaching and evangelisation. He is renowned for his significant contributions to moral theology, penance, and spirituality. Alphonsus was a prolific writer, and his works included numerous treatises and devotional writings.
He is revered for his commitment to Christ, his deep prayer life, and his compassionate care for the spiritually abandoned.
St. Alphonsus Liguori, pray for us 🙏
Our newly ordained priests have been appointed to parishes around the Archdiocese of Brisbane as Associate Pastors. Here is Fr Gerard Lai with Fr Josh Whitehead at Caloundra Catholic Parish, where Gerard will commence his journey as a new priest. We're praying for our three new priests and their transition into their parishes around this time! ⛪🙏
The Holocaust Museum in Brisbane has just been opened after years of careful preparation. It’s located in the basement of Penola Place in the precinct of St Stephen’s Cathedral. The space had been used for years by the Catholic Women’s League, and once they decided to relinquish it the question was what to do with the space. The query from the Museum organisers came just at the right time. When I was approached, I was quick to say yes, in part because my years of studying and teaching Scripture has given me a profound respect for Judaism. The organisers have done a brilliant job in reconfiguring the space for the Museum. It’s stark and beautiful, full of unforgettable images and stories. It shows what can be done when religious communities and government work together for the good of all. The Holocaust Museum is a great addition to the life of Brisbane, and I strongly recommend a visit…
Our Story
Faith on Tap (2008 - 2015) was a monthly pub gathering for young adults aged from 18 to 35 years to share a good drink and a good conversation about faith, philosophy, theology, and life.
It developed out of World Youth Day in Sydney in 2008 and was independently run by a small team of volunteers, with the assistance of Divine Providence, donations and our chaplain - the world's second most famous Jesuit, Fr Gregory Jordan SJ (RIP 2015)
We provided a place where people could talk openly, honestly and ask real questions without feeling like they were being judged or groomed to join a movement.
Faith on Tap provided young adults in Brisbane with straight talk and honest answers to questions of faith and morals. We hosted the faithful, the lapsed, the religiously unaffiliated - everyone interested in the implications of faith and morality on our daily lives, our community and our society.
Currently Faith on Tap supports local young adult initiatives such as:
