Ma Rainey The mother of blues! The woman who was the precursor to a whole cultural movement because of her original lyrics that explored her life as an independent openly bis*xual African American woman. Her artistry has inspired writers like Angela Davis and August Wilson. A true, renaissance woman! She is the definition of LOUD. Singing the blues!
