DLZ Lansing, Grand Rapids, Kalamazoo, Muskegon, and Saint Joseph gathered for a family outing to celebrate our employee’s hard work. Employees and their families enjoyed all you could eat pizza, pretzels, salad, and drinks and competed in all the different games and activities that High Caliber had to offer. We had 5 different survey winners (two of them not pictured) who received a gift card and custom sash. Overall, it was a great time celebrating all of you!

We are honored to be recognized at the 2024 American Institute of Architects (AIA) Indiana Convention where DLZ received the Emerging Professional Exemplary Firm Award! This award honors firms that demonstrate a commitment to fostering the careers of emerging professionals through supportive work environments, mentoring opportunities, and professional development initiatives.

Our Akron and Cleveland employees enjoyed a special outing with their families to watch the Cleveland Guardians take down the Chicago Cubs 6-1, for a 3-game sweep. Let’s go Guardians!

Hosted by Stephen Metzer, AICP, SPWS, Senior Planner here at DLZ, this webinar reviewed the accessibility requirements for outdoor recreational facilities and included examples of common barriers to access found during accessibility reviews.

Ensuring access for persons with disabilities to recreation, whether participating or simply watching, is vital for equal access to these important community programs. Stephen discussed the most common types of facilities, including pools, play areas, sports fields and courts, walking paths and other accessible routes, parking, restrooms, shelters and picnic areas, fishing and viewing platforms, furnishings, etc.

We can't think of a better project to win ASHE - Central Ohio's Under $10 Million Award! The Maple Canyon Avenue Mini Roundabouts project includes the installation of medians and two mini roundabouts on Maple Canyon Avenue to improve safety in one of Columbus' most dangerous intersections.

This intersection ranked No. 3 on the MORPC yearly "Top 40 Regional High Crash Locations" list, and DLZ is thrilled to lead the team to improve this intersection for the City of Columbus.

Mini roundabouts were used in this developed urban area to provide the safety benefits of a while minimizing the impact to adjacent properties. This project also included a shared use path, sidewalks, bus shelter pads, streetlights, waterline improvements and storm sewer improvements.

The City of Columbus is committed to improving the safety of the SR 161 corridor. The ultimate vision for the SR 161 corridor is that the mini-roundabout solution will eventually be placed at many more intersections along SR 161.

We are pleased to welcome Trevor Bublitz, EIT, to the firm's Pennsylvania team as a Civil Engineer. He brings over ten years of experience in the site civil engineering field, mainly on land development projects. Trevor will primarily focus on the Allegheny County Sanitary Authority’s Clean Water Plan, among other projects.

We had the pleasure of attending the groundbreaking ceremony for Potter Park Zoo's new Animal Health Facility, which is expected to be completed in 2025. The facility will allow Potter Park Zoo to provide state-of-the-art care for its animals and help it be a leader in conservation efforts across the country.

The new facility will be approximately 5,800 square feet and include spaces for treatment, surgery, laboratory, offices, and an animal quarantine for various species.

We love working on unique projects like this and are happy to be part of the team that is helping to enhance the level of care offered to animal residents.

This was a hoot! Our Indy team laced up their running shoes once again for the HandleBar Hot Lap downtown Indianapolis. It's a fun time of single-elimination races to crown the top office team in the city. We almost won it all! DLZ made it to the Elite 8, but lost in the third round.

We had the privilege of attending the Ribbon Cutting Ceremony honoring three great projects for the City of Mishawaka, Indiana – the Gumwood 1.5 MG Water Tower, Tank 1 Facility Improvements, and the Juday Creek Wellfield and Water Treatment Plant, at which the event was held.

DLZ is grateful to have such an incredible team and thrilled to partner with the City to be a part of these projects.

Our Waterford team was joined by West Bloomfield Township and the West Bloomfield Transition Center to celebrate Earth Day by participating in the Trash Pick Up event along the Jacobs Drain. It was a beautiful day for everyone to come together for the successful event in West Bloomfield Township, MI!

There’s no better day than Earth Day to team up with CK and clean up Kilbourne Run Sports Park in Westerville, Ohio! Staff from our Columbus office met up with CK to pickup trash and beautify the site.

DLZ has been working through the design phase of the project. Early construction work was completed in March and included demolition of an existing building, and removal of 425 trees. Over the course of this work, it became apparent that the site could use a cleanup. With a pause in construction activities until later this summer, today was the perfect opportunity for us to make an impact.

We’re pleased to welcome Mark Bott to our Michigan team as Senior Traffic and Safety Engineer. He brings over 36 years of transportation experience to DLZ, including road and bridge design, construction inspection, pavement performance, and safety analysis.

Here at DLZ, Mark is primarily focusing on identifying clients, traffic safety related funding opportunities, as well as providing technical guidance to our engineering staff.

DLZ recently attended the Steel Topping Ceremony at the new Martin Luther King Jr. Dream Center in South Bend, Indiana. The two-story, 44,000 square foot facility replaces the existing community center on the City’s west side.

As a subconsultant to METICULOUS Design + Architecture (MD+A), DLZ is providing the building engineering, site layout, and landscape design. This new center was designed to be a beacon of hope for the South Bend Community and provides a flexible campus featuring fitness, recreation, and wellness spaces, indoor and outdoor playground and gathering spaces.

The site design includes outdoor basketball courts, a splash pad, restroom facility, open pavilion, and an outbuilding for maintenance and storage.

We couldn't be more excited to be a part of this wonderful project.
