Following the death of loved ones, it’s always saddening to see and hear the stories of those left behind in despair; not only relationally, but also financially. It is comforting to see family, friends and acquaintances rally around those experiencing loss, whether it be with words of encouragement or monetary support, but in a lot of cases, the funds raised for grief-stricken families barely cover funeral expenses, which average between $7,000 and $10,000, let alone the cost of living life in general.

TERM life policies don’t couple themselves with forced money-saving measures (i.e. “cash value”), they don’t integrate investment products, the monthly premiums are comparatively low, proportionate to the death benefit amount, yet the death benefit amount itself (which is all that should matter when it comes to life insurance policies) is comparatively high. Let your insurance work for you as a transference of risk/loss, not as a supplemental investment/savings plan, thus giving you the opportunity to invest and save your money elsewhere (e.g. stocks, bonds, real estate, etc.).

RECOMMENDATION: Implement a policy worth 10X your annual income as a “breadwinner” and between $200K-$400K as a “homemaker.” Also, consider a 20 or 30-year term depending on the time you anticipate it taking to become self-insured.
