My Love is A Hurricane - New Album Out Now
Austin, tomorrow I’m playing Imogene + Willie on South Congress with my friend Natalie Price and on Saturday the band and I are playing The White Horse anniversary party at 5pm. Come hang.
Sitting at an empty sports bar across the street from The Atlantis in DC reflecting back on this year with all the love in my heart. Tonight was the last touring show of the year and my eyes have a couple three happy tears running down my cheek.
‘23 began with me thinking I was going to throw in the towel and find another career but thankfully, because of close friends, my heart was able to heal from heartbreak, my own personal self-sabotage and an overwhelming disappointment and sadness in the current state of the world.
Thank you to all the homies who opened shows, thank you to the band for touring with me through all the magical and less than magical moments, thank you to all the friends who let me write and create with them, thank you to all the bands and artists who trusted me to open their shows and tours and thank you to each of you who bought tickets to, traveled to and showed up to all the shows this year. At this age I know most of y’all who still follow me are attached to full time careers, relationships and/or have kids at home. It’s expensive and time consuming to commit to an evening but y’all still come through for me and it’s pretty fu***ng tight to see.
I’ve been given such a great life and have been afforded the wonderful blessing of getting to bring people together for a few hours a night in cities across the globe so when it all gets unbearable and I find myself beat up and beat down from the bu****it and personal challenges all I need is to remember your faces in the crowd and the stories you’ve shared about your lives in regard to the songs and I’m back to breathing deep and loving strong.
We start the new record next month and I couldn’t think of a better way to kick off the year. See you next year, gang. All the hugs and kisses.

My friend and fellow writer, Natalie Price, was commissioned with sending one guitar to five writers all tasked with writing one song in one week. On Thursday of this week we all get together at The Cactus Cafe to share what we wrote. The night is free and begins at 7pm. Come join us in one of the most historic rooms in town as we tell stories and swap a few tunes. It’s going to be very sweet and special.
Just walked in my front door after the 16 hour drive from Estes Park, CO and, though extremely beat, I’m still flying over the moon from last night at The Stanley Hotel opening for Amigo the Devil. What a night. Thank you, Jonathan Terrell for this backstage shot and thank you, Amigo for having me and the band open up such a crazy night filled with so much love.
Third times a charm! Now one of my favorite places to play in Colorado. Come join us for a good time!
On December 15th a bunch of friends and I are going to burn The Paramount to the ground. Come start a fire with us.
November, initially, was reserved to be spent in the studio but, alas, the road came a knocking so I’ll be out a rocking.
I haven’t been to a couple of these towns in years so if you’re around I’d love to see you. Dates below. Tickets online. All my love

My UtopiaFest debut. For years I’ve heard nothing but great things about this festival so I’m thrilled to finally get out and play. And the line-up? Forget about it.
Tickets and info available at www.utopiafest.com
Next Saturday, the 21st, the trio and I are making big plans to burn down to the ground. It’s their opening week and we want to play a show that will haunt the halls for decades to come. Will you be there?
There’s a brand spanking new venue in Martindale, TX called Duett’s and I’m thrilled to be one of the first acts to stand on her stage. On October 21st the trio will be driving down to the San Marcos river to bring the heat and all the feelings to this beautiful room. Tickets are on sale now. Let’s be together.
This venue has become one of my favorites. Grab a friend and meet me and the band for what will for sure be a fun night!
When I played ACL a couple years back I, along with every band and artist, got to have a session with photographer and he absolutely crushed.
Come join us tonight at Central Machine Works to take a look at his beautiful portraits, have a cocktail and hear music from Jake Lloyd, Flora & Fawna, and Yours Truly.
Doors at 8pm
Tour ended two days ago in Tampere, Finland but my manager and I have been traveling the 30+ hours back to Amsterdam in order to return our Sprinter and backline and catch our flight back to Texas in 10 hours. During these quiet drives through the European countryside (when I’m not doom-scrolling my life away) I’ve been replaying this tour back in my mind and for the life of me can’t think of one single low. I’m not desperate to find one, mind you, just simply playing the game “highs and lows” and I can’t place one. Sure, tired days and a few less than ideal nights but in all my years of touring (said in my most grandfather-esque shaky baritone) I’m not sure I’ve had a trip be as seamless and sans hiccup as the one we just wrapped.
We got along, we got better, we played for all sorts of people (all of whom were lovely), on all types of stages (two of which were the actual floor), we ate well, we danced in the streets, my album hit the Denmark top 40 charts at #22, I TURNED 40 and my parents were there, my parents celebrated their 41st anniversary in London and I was there, crowds cheered and cried and on more than a few nights deeply preferred watching Barbara and Jeff over me (I’m still begging them to let me join the band), my musicianship improved greatly on this trip BECAUSE of how great Barbara and Jeff are at their jobs and dammit I’m just over the moon. I’m happy and I’ll leave it at that. How many highs can one guy have without feeling like he’s doing something truly illegal?
Six countries, 23 days, 19 shows. Check.
Thank you to all who showed up, bought a t-shirt, and took a selfie. Thanks to Fabian Perez and Steve Hughes for handling all the logistics. Thanks to Sedate for booking the gigs. Thanks to Smoeff for the reliable Sprinter and Backline. And thank you Barbara and Jeff for making me the luckiest front guy of ever and always. Peace out, gang. I’m going home to start the next record. It’s fu***ng time. See you at the show.
Rarely pictured or seen, our fearless leader, Fabian Perez.
If he’s not driving, he’s tuning guitars, setting up the stage, making sure we’re checked into the right hotel, making sure we’re eating, he’s loading gear in and out of every venue, bus, ferry and airplane, dealing with our late night shenanigans and forgiving us for them all in the early mornings. He’s dealing with promoters, venue owners, FOH engineers, and all the wildly enthusiastic fans who swarm the merch table, WHILE STILL making sure I have a sharpie on me at all times.
Every detail is covered and we’d be lost in the woods without him. Thanks, homie for LITERALLY everything.
London, you came through tonight in a big way. As always, I love playing for you and I can’t wait to get back.

Celebrating my 40th in Denmark while playing the best festival on the planet. See you next month,
My Love Is A Hurricane turned three years old yesterday. Thank you for accepting my most ambitious record to date with such open arms and ears. I’ve loved hearing how you’ve made these songs such a regular part of your lives. I’ve loved watching and listening to every cover you’ve posted. I love this record.
I’m recording a stripped down EP with five of my favorite songs from this album that I’m affectionately naming, My Love Is A Sweet Rain. Curious to know what five songs you think I should include.

On Saturday, August 12th, I will be recording a live record from The Far Out Lounge in Austin, TX. I’ve released three studio records since the last time I recorded a live show so I’m super stoked to get a lot of these more recent songs down on tape in front of my hometown people.
My friends Spice and Roy (Sir Woman) have started a project of their own called US! and will be opening the evening, followed by one of my favorite groups in Texas, Star Parks. We’re gonna burn the place down.
Tickets are on sale now. Let’s make a record together.
