(1/3)“I was a CUNY student. I did my undergrad in CUNY, over 20 years ago. I played college basketball in CUNY. I did my graduate degree in CUNY. I really love CUNY and I knew I wanted to stay from the moment I made the decision to not go to other places that had offered me scholarships. Once I got into CUNY I was reassured the decision I had made was the right one. I worked in different CUNYs before I came to CCNY and I had a wonderful mentor who encouraged me to go after different positions, but I knew I wanted to stay in CUNY. Upon learning about the opportunity to come to CCNY, I realized that there would be a lot of opportunity for me to help bring awareness to what we do here, and that excited me. I knew I was going to be able to use the things that I like the most, which are different forms of communication, to help share the great things that were already happening. People probably knew a bit about the great things we do at CCNY but maybe not as much as what they could. I was going to be able to make a difference.
When I was offered my position at CCNY, I was offered other positions in CUNY. I will tell you that the deciding factor for me, in all the different things that I've ever had an opportunity where I could pick from, has always been the people. I interacted with some students on the day that I was interviewing as well as my search committee and staff around the division, and I knew it was for me. I related. I have the grit that our students have to have, and I felt at peace and at home at CCNY, and that happened because of the people.”
