Barefoot Strength
STRENGTHEN YOUR FOUNDATION. Thinking Feet First
Stretching alone is not enough to solve hip mobility issues. There are four factors to consider:

All Barefoot shoes are designed to be flat (zero-drop), so that your posture is not changed when you wear them. This allows your joints to stay in their neutral position all the time.

As adults, we are highly adaptable, thanks to our ability to learn through our 5 innate senses.
This is even more so the case in young children when they are still in the developmental stage of their lives.
Sight and sound helps the young to develop their language and to quickly learn from the guardians assigned to them.
Similarly, a child's sense of touch helps their bodies to intimately learn the environment in which they live, as to prepare their bodies to survive in this environment.
The two greatest conductors of this sensory input is their hands and feet.
So, when we place thick and cushioned shoes on our kids we are essentially blocking one of the two areas they use to learn from their environment.
This action could be compared to blind folding our children's eyes with a light cloth, so that they could only partially see. This is something we would never do.
Therefore, we must also provide our children with the opportunity to become more competent in their surroundings through an unobstructed sense of touch in their feet.
I’ve always been really active, and considered myself as being above average in my physical condition.
However, the stiffness and fatigue I felt the day after wearing barefoot shoes for the first time made me realise that the condition of my feet severely lagged behind the rest of my body.
Since then, I’ve been able to significantly narrow that gap, and the results have been nothing short of amazing.
I no longer get niggling knee pain.
My glutes are stronger and more switched on than ever.
My lower back hardly ever gives me discomfort anymore.
I enjoy running way, way more.
My ankles feel solid and less likely to sprain.
Overall, I just feel like I’ve unlocked huge untapped potential in my body.
So, what have I learned through this journey ?
Well, I’ve learned to pay closer attention to the basics.
In the case of the feet, they are our foundational structures in all upright weight bearing movement
So, while advanced training techniques, high tech equipment and fancy recovery tools can all be beneficial to your training, they are only truly effective if laid on top of a solid foundation
It’s like installing fancy trim in a house built on sand. What’s the point, right?
However, once that solid foundation is built, the sky is the limit after that!
So, the only question left to ask is; Are you ready to lay your foundation?

The more I learn about the human body, the more I am convinced that we can’t look at any one segment and disregard the rest of it.
In the example given in the video, we can see how the foot arch is affected by the function of the glutes.
So, even though the hips are 3 major joints away from the feet, they still play a crucial role in how the feet function.
The fact of the matter is that the body is a complex system which requires a broad understanding of how each part interacts and affects one another.
This holistic, all systems approach is how we at Exercising Health try to look at the body. We consider everything and take nothing for granted.
