Gypsy Blanchard, the woman believed to be a victim of Munchausen by proxy who murdered her mother, has been granted early parole and will be released later this year.
The Missouri Department of Corrections confirmed on Thursday that Blanchard will be set free on Dec. 28, KY3 reported.
Blanchard, 32, pleaded guilty to second-degree murder in 2016 for the death of her mother, Dee Dee Blanchard.
Sentenced to 10 years in prison, she was eligible for early release beginning this year, the news station reported.
Prosecutors have said Gypsy instructed and aided her boyfriend at the time, Nicholas Godejohn, in killing her mother in June 2015.
Godejohn, who stabbed Dee Dee to death in a gruesome attack in her home, was sentenced to life in prison.
Experts have said they believe Gypsy was a victim of Munchausen by proxy, a form of abuse in which a parent exploits their child by exaggerating or fabricating illness in a child — sometimes to the point of poisoning the child — so that the parent can bask in the attention.
Gypsy testified at trial her mother subjected her to unnecessary medical tests and forced her to spend much of her life in a wheelchair – even though she could walk – and claimed she was still a child, as part of a scheme to collect gifts and receive sympathy.
In turn, Gypsy became a poster child for people with disabilities — a status Dee Dee used to finagle charitable donations, including upgrades to her home, investigators said.
Gypsy's case became a national sensation, thanks in part to being the subject of an HBO documentary, "Mommy Dead and Dearest," that was released in 2017.

The mother of a newborn girl whose body was found in a New Jersey park on Christmas Eve nearly 40 years ago has been identified and is now charged in the death, authorities announced Thursday.
The infant, dubbed "Baby Mary" by a police chaplain, was found by two young boys in a secluded park in Mendham Township in 1984, Morris County Prosecutor Robert Carrol said. The child's umbilical cord was still attached when she was found, and she was wrapped inside a towel inside of a plastic bag. She was alive when she was abandoned, Carrol said.
The woman, who was 17 at the time, was arrested in South Carolina on April 24 and charged as a juvenile with manslaughter. She is not in custody but is "being monitored," Carroll said.
The woman's name was not released since she was a juvenile when the death occurred. The identity of the child's father - who was 19 at the time - was also determined, Carroll said, but authorities said he was unaware the baby had been born and he was not involved in her death. He died in 2009.
A possible motive or reason for abandoning the baby has not been disclosed.
A breakthrough in the case came several years ago when a DNA match between the infant and the father was made, Carroll said, though he declined further comment.
"The death and abandonment of this baby girl is a tragic loss and even after nearly 40 years, remains just as heartbreaking," Carroll said in a statement. "Justice may not take the form the public has imagined all these years, but we believe with this juvenile delinquency complaint, justice is being served for Baby Mary. Nothing can right this terrible wrong."
At the time of the newborn's death, New Jersey did not have a safe haven law that allows
parents to anonymously surrender a newborn baby at a hospital, police station or fire station. The Safe Haven Infant Protection Act became law in the state in 2000.
"I want young parents to know that there is help available," Sheriff James Gannon said. "If the baby appears to be 30 days old or less, and free of any abuse or neglect, the baby will be accepted with no questions asked."
"Baby Mary" is buried at St. Joseph's Church in Mendham Township.
"Every Christmas Eve for the past 35 years members of our department and community have left their own families at noon to remember Baby Mary at a service by her grave, to ensure she is never forgotten," Mendham Township Police Chief Ross Johnson said. "Today we are finally able to bring closure to this case and the community that has supported her."

Police working to apprehend a fugitive who escaped a Pennsylvania prison nearly two weeks ago remain confident Monday he remains within Chester County, despite the fact he slipped through their search perimeter this weekend, forcing a “change in direction” for investigators.
“We don’t have a defined search area at this point,” Pennsylvania State Police Lt. Col. George Bivens said in a news conference Monday afternoon, nearly two days after authorities say Danelo Cavalcante stole a van, changed his appearance and was sighted more than 20 miles away before ditching the vehicle in East Nantmeal Township.
There have been no new sightings of Cavalcante since Saturday evening, Bivens said, but residents of East Nantmeal Township can expect to see a significant increase in the presence of law enforcement.
“We’re considering and certainly acting on and investigating any piece of information or tip that we receive,” Bivens said, noting the reward for information leading to Cavalcante’s capture had been raised to $25,000.

Former YouTube vlogger and “momfluencer” Ruby Franke could face more legal trouble after telling a judge that one of her own children may be a s*xual predator.
Utah Judge Suchada Bazzelle oversaw a shelter hearing involving the placement of Franke’s four minor children on Friday. During the short proceeding, Franke claimed that one of her children had abused other kids. She accused the child of having s*xually abused a younger sibling for years and encouraged that child to help abuse other children. She also claimed two of her children played a “patting” game with each other, but didn’t explain to the court what she meant by that. Despite her statements that her child recently confessed to abusing 20 people, she provided no evidence for the allegations.

LONDON (AP) — A former neonatal nurse convicted of murdering seven babies in her care and trying to kill six others at a hospital in northern England was sentenced Monday to life in prison with no chance of release by a judge who said she was cruel, cunning and callous, and acted with “malevolence bordering sadism.”
Lucy Letby, who refused to appear in court for sentencing or to face an outpouring of anger and anguish from grieving parents, was given the most severe punishment possible under British law, which does not allow the death penalty.
Justice James Goss said the number of killings and attempts and the nature of the murders by a nurse entrusted with caring for the most fragile infants provided the “exceptional circumstances” required to impose a rare “whole-life order.” Only three other women have received such a harsh sentence in the U.K.

Police arrested an 18-year-old man Saturday in the death of an 11-year-old girl found dead under a bed after she was s*xually assaulted and strangled, officials in Texas said.
Maria Gonzalez had lived in the same apartment complex as the alleged killer, Juan Carlos Garcia-Rodriguez, before her death on Aug. 12, Pasadena police said. Officers interviewed and collected DNA evidence from Garcia-Rodriguez the day Gonzalez's body was found, but he wasn't initially on investigators' radar, Pasadena Police Chief Josh Bruegger said. Garcia-Rodriguez was identified as a person of interest on Friday and was located and taken into custody on capital murder charges in Shreveport, Louisiana. He is awaiting extradition to Texas.
Gonzalez's father left for work in the morning on the day his daughter died. He communicated with the 11-year-old girl during the day via cellphone, officials said. Gonzalez messaged her father and told him someone was knocking at the door. He told her not to open it, CBS affiliate KHOU reported. She replied that she wouldn't and that she'd stay in her bed. That was the last her father heard from her.

Nurse Lucy Letby has been found guilty of murdering seven babies on a neonatal unit, making her the UK's most prolific child serial killer in modern times.
The 33-year-old has also been convicted of trying to kill six other infants at the Countess of Chester Hospital between June 2015 and June 2016.
Letby deliberately injected babies with air, force fed others milk and poisoned two of the infants with insulin.
She refused to appear in the dock for the latest verdicts.
They have been delivered by the jury over several hearings but they were not reportable until jurors were discharged.
Letby broke down in tears as the first set of guilty verdicts were read out by the jury's foreman on 8 August after 76 hours of deliberations.
She cried with her head bowed as the second set were returned on 11 August.
Her mother sobbed loudly and was heard to say "this can't be right - you can't be serious" while the families of the babies cried and gasped.
Letby, originally from Hereford, was found not guilty of two counts of attempted murder.
The jury was unable to reach verdicts on six further attempted murder charges.
Nicholas Johnson KC, prosecuting, asked the court for 28 days to consider whether a retrial would be sought for these remaining six counts.

Asa Ellerup broke her silence Friday after husband Rex Heuermann was charged over a series of killings in New York.
Heuermann was arrested earlier this month when a combination of DNA evidence, cell tower data and witness descriptions made him the prime suspect in at least three of the many Long Island killings known as the Gilgo Beach murders.
In a press release, Ellerup said she was speaking out on “behalf of my family and especially my elderly neighbors, who have also had their lives turned upside down by the enormous police presence, in addition to the spectators, and news crews.”
“They deserve to live peacefully; they should be able to walk their dogs and go to the grocery stores without cameras shoved in their faces,” she continued. “I am pleading with you all to give us space so that we may regain some normalcy in our neighborhood.”
Ellerup was spotted outside her home Friday following a weeklong search by authorities, who suspected that her husband kept “trophies” of his alleged crimes. Heuermann, 59, worked as an architect in Manhattan — until mounting evidence led to his arrest.
The father of two is accused of killing Megan Waterman, 22, Melissa Barthelemy, 24, and Amber Costello, 27. He is also a suspect in the death of 25-year-old Maureen Brainard-Barnes but has yet to be charged in her killing, according to police. All four were found buried on Gilgo Beach over a decade ago.

BOISE, Idaho (TCD) -- A judge sentenced Lori Vallow to three life sentences in prison for the deaths of her 16-year-old daughter, her 7-year-old son, and her husband’s previous wife even though she claims "no one was murdered."
Vallow was convicted in May of two counts of first-degree murder for the slayings of 7-year-old Joshua "JJ" Vallow and 16-year-old Tylee Ryan, three counts of conspiracy to commit first-degree murder, and grand theft. The conspiracy charges stem from her plan to kill her husband Chad Daybell’s first wife, Tammy. Her trial began in April and lasted several weeks.
NBC News reports Judge Steven Boyce ordered the life sentences to be served consecutively. At her sentencing hearing, Vallow reportedly said she could speak with the "spirit world" and believed JJ and Tylee weren’t sad about being dead.
She reportedly said, "Jesus knows me and Jesus understands me. I mourn with all of you who mourn my children and Tammy. Jesus Christ knows the truth of what happened here, Jesus Christ knows no one was murdered in this case. Accidental deaths happen, suicides happen, fatal side effects from medications happen."
Judge Boyce, however, told Vallow she hasn’t "shown any remorse," adding, "You haven’t said you’re sorry. You haven’t done anything to seek leniency from this court."
According to The Associated Press, Judge Boyce argued Vallow went "down a bizarre religious rabbit hole, and clearly you are still down there."
JJ and Tylee were last seen Sept. 23, 2019, in Rexburg, Idaho. Tammy Daybell was found dead Oct. 19, 2019, and officials initially ruled her death natural. Two months later, however, her body was exhumed after investigators determined she might have died under suspicious circumstances. It was later reported that Tammy Daybell had been suffocated.
Tylee and JJ’s bodies were found on Chad Daybell’s property. JJ’s hands and legs had reportedly been tied together, and he had a plastic bag over his head, whereas Tylee had been dismembered and burned.
Chad Daybell’s trial is scheduled to begin in April 2024.

The adoptive parents of a 5-year-old boy in Pennsylvania have been arrested for allegedly physically and emotionally torturing their son for most of his short life before ultimately killing him.
Lauren E. Maloberti and Jacob N. Maloberti were taken into custody Thursday night and charged with a slew of felonies in the slaying of young Landon Maloberti earlier this year, authorities announced.
Jacob Maloberti, who works as a corrections officer at Fayette State Correctional Center, was charged with one count each of criminal homicide, endangering the welfare of children, and criminal conspiracy, as well as two counts of aggravated assault of a child. Lauren Maloberti is facing the same charges as her husband, plus one count of first-degree murder.
Under Pennsylvania law, criminal homicide is an umbrella term that encompasses all classifications of murder, voluntary manslaughter, and involuntary manslaughter, whereas first-degree murder alleges that the defendant knowingly and willing killed another person.
“In the 25 years I have been working for the Delmont Police Department, we have never faced an incident like this,” Delmont Police Chief T.J. Klobucar said in a statement about the disturbing nature of the case.
According to a press release from the Westmoreland County District Attorney’s Office, the investigation into the Malobertis began on the evening of Monday, Jan. 30, 2023, when they brought an unconscious Landon to AHN Hempfield Neighborhood Hospital. Due to the severity of his condition, the child was later transported to University of Pittsburgh Medical Center (UPMC) Children’s Hospital for more specialized care. Unfortunately, Landon ultimately succumbed to his injuries and was pronounced dead just over a week later, on the evening of Feb. 7.
The Allegheny County Medical examiner determined that the little boy’s manner of death was a homicide.
According to a copy of the criminal complaint obtained by Pittsburgh NBC affiliate WPXI, Landon’s parents waited a full day after he suffered his fatal injuries before seeking medical care for the boy. Furthermore, medical staff at the hospital reportedly told investigators that when the couple arrived at the facility they appeared to show “no urgency,” and they said that Landon was just “wobbly from COVID a month prior.”
Despite the parent’s alleged claims, UMPC doctors reportedly found that Landon had actually suffered three separate bleeds in his brain, describing his brain as “obliterated.”
During a Friday news conference, Westmoreland District Attorney Nicole W. Ziccarelli provided additional facts about Landon’s condition, saying he lived a “very tough” life prior to his death.
“One of the doctors at UPMC physician noted that Landon, he had multiple episodes of physical abuse in combination with at least two types of emotional maltreatment,” she said. “His injuries caused substantial pain at the time they were inflicted with impairment of function including inability to stand, inability to eat or drink, and loss of consciousness.”
Ziccarelli also read directly from the report provided by the pathologist for Westmoreland County.
“Landon had blunt force trauma to his head and neck, blunt force trauma to his torso, blunt force trauma to his extremities,” she continued. “Landon also had prolonged and intensive medical interventions prior to his death and multiple bruises in different stages of healing.”
In the criminal complaint, prosecutors alleged that Lauren Maloberti’s former colleagues told police she “hated” Landon and referred to him as “hard to love,” according to WPXI.
“Tragically, Landon suffered abuse and trauma over the span of his short life,” DA Ziccarelli said in closing Friday’s news conference. “We intend to prosecute this case with the dignity and honor Landon deserves.”
The Malobertis are being held in Westmoreland County Prison without bond. They are scheduled to appear in court again on Aug. 8. It was not immediately clear if they had retained attorneys as of Saturday morning.

NEW YORK (AP) — In the winter of 2010, shortly after police discovered the remains of his roommate and three other women buried on a remote stretch of Long Island shoreline, Dave Schaller provided detectives with a description of the person he believed to be the killer.
More crucially, Schaller told them about his truck.
The man they were looking for was a towering, Frankenstein-like figure with an “empty gaze” who drove a first-generation Chevrolet Avalanche, Schaller recalled telling investigators. The man’s size stuck out, as did his unusual pick-up truck, which he’d used to flee the house Schaller shared with Amber Costello.
On that night, Schaller said he came home to find the stranger threatening Costello, an occasional s*x worker, who had locked herself in the bathroom. The two men came to blows, with the hulking intruder eventually leaving in the truck.
Prosecutors say Costello was last seen alive on Sept. 2, 2010, as she left her home to meet that same client. A witness saw a dark-colored truck drive by the house again shortly after she left.
“When they told me she was dead, he was the first person who jumped in my head,” Schaller told The Associated Press. “I’ve been picturing his face for 13 years.”

Detectives in Oregon have linked the murders of four women to a Multnomah County man who was released early from prison in July 2021 because he joined a group of inmates fighting devastating wildfires the previous year.
Jesse Lee Calhoun, 38, is again behind bars now, Willamette Week reports, after his clemency was revoked.
The Multnomah County District Attorney’s office specifically said that it had not named a suspect in the murders, the Oregonian reports, but law enforcement sources identified Calhoun as the man linked to the murders.
“We have not named a suspect,” said Liz Merah, a district attorney’s office spokesperson. “Investigators have interviewed multiple people in connection with these cases and have identified at least one person of interest that is linked to all four of the decedents.”
The district attorney’s office said their “person of interest” had been linked to the deaths of Kristin Smith, 22; Charity Lynn Perry, 24; Bridget Leann Ramsey Webster, 31; and Ashley Real, 22. Their bodies were found between February and May of this year, within 100 miles of each other.
Investigators said they have not found evidence to link the deaths of two other women — 32-year-old Joanna Speaks and an as yet unidentified woman — with the other four. In fact, authorities later said the death of the unidentified woman was not suspicious, the Oregonian reported.
The DA’s office did not say what information linked the four deaths or what linked them to Calhoun. As recently as early June, investigators had said there was “no reason to believe” the cases are related, as CrimeOnline previously reported.

A top investigator on the Gilgo Beach serial killings task force described the suspect, Rex Heuermann, as a “demon” and said authorities are still working full-time on the case that has terrorized the Long Island community for more than a decade.
Suffolk County Deputy Police Commissioner Anthony Carter told CNN, “The acts that (the suspect) committed were the worst I’ve ever seen.”
“He’s a demon, and it’s really hard to get into the mind of somebody that’s capable of committing the crimes that he committed,” Carter said. “This person intended to do what he did to these victims. And that is why I say that’s one of the worst, if not the worst.”
