Dave's Creations
Metal hardware, art, and sculpture created primarily from reclaimed and scrap steel.
New for tomorrow's Community Market in the Ghost Town (10-1):
Icarus, Before His Flight: Made from C-Purlin, rebar, lug nut, silverware, and the base for a fireplace tool set. This was an ambitious project for a one-day build, but it got done, just barely. Lots of other work and errands this week, but I should be back on schedule next week.
Also available: 1 buzzard, 1 roadrunner, 1 desert cardinal, 1 bee, 1 puppy, 1 pterosaur, 1 scorpion, 4 monarch butterflies, 2 black swallowtails, 1 sparkplug dragonfly, 5 lizards, and more!
Some custom work from the past (a few years ago, now):
Four exterior door handles and two interior door handles for my Blazer. I was down to one working exterior door handle on the driver's side, and two rear interior door handles. And the power window on the driver's side does not always work, so it was getting a bit awkward.
I fabricated six new handles and stick-welded them together with 3/32" 6011. New parts were available, but the exterior handles were die-cast zinc and the interior were plastic, so they would just break again.
Similarly, the brackets/hinges that hold the rear spoiler and rear hatch glass in place were die-cast zinc, and the only new parts available did not have the spoiler mount. The spoiler keeps the dust off the rear glass, which is kind of important out here. New brackets were also stick-welded.
And, finally, the fiberglass-reinforced plastic mounts/bushings for the windshield wiper transmission crumbled into dust. I could not find a new wiper transmission anywhere, and since the affected parts were plastic, it would just happen again. So, I made new mounts from steel for the old transmission. Also, stick-welded. I wanted to learn with stick first, before going to flux core and MIG, so I worked with what I had.
For tomorrow's Community Market in the Ghost Town (10-1):
It's been a busy week with other work, so I have not finished any new projects, but there are plenty of items still available, including:
1 buzzard, 1 roadrunner, 1 desert cardinal, 1 bee, 1 puppy, 1 pterosaur, 1 scorpion, 4 monarch butterflies, 2 black swallowtails, 2 sparkplug dragonflies, 5 lizards, and more!
Some custom work: Replacing the cable-driven window regulator in a Ford E-150 van that has failed several times due to broken nylon/plastic parts or tangled cables.
After a bit of desert engineering, a gear-driven manual window regulator from a Chevy Colorado was installed. A few plates were welded in to mount the new regulator, but they can be removed to reinstall a stock regulator, if needed.
Texture has been added, and the photos have been updated.
For the SciFi aficionados -- One of my favorite ships from one of the best science fiction series of the late 90s. Props if you know the show and the alien race.
New for tomorrow's Community Market in the Ghost Town (10-1):
Shadow Dreadnought aka "Battle Crab" - Made with horseshoes and rebar. The photos are not doing this justice. I will update later with photos in better lighting. And again after I add some hand-painted details/texture.
And finally, also for tomorrow's Comunity Market in the Ghost Town (10-1):
5 new Monarch butterflies: Made with C-purlin, rebar, and refrigerator shelf wire. These just have the black base coat and orange color coat, but they are pictured with a fully painted version for reference. I think all of these should be painted and ready tomorrow, but at least a few will be done, in addition to the lizards and dragonflies. $25 for each butterfly.
Also available: 1 buzzard, 1 roadrunner, 1 desert cardinal, 1 bee, 1 scorpion, 1 puppy, 1 mantis, and more!
Also coming to Saturday's Community Market in the Ghost Town (10-1):
Four new lizards: Made from rebar and refrigerator shelf wire. They are with their fully painted buddy, but they will get their stripes tonight. $20
New for Saturday's Community Market in the Ghost Town (10-1):
5 new spark plug dragonflies: Made from spark plugs, c-purlin, and refrigerator shelf wire. $10
New for tomorrow's Community Market in the Ghost Town (10-1):
Buzzard (Turkey Vulture): Made from C-purlin, brake drum, drill stem, jack handle, refrigerator shelf wire, exhaust pipe, and more! I still need to add some hand-painted details, but it is nearly done. The wingspan is 49 inches, so it is about life-sized.
We had a great family from Austin come to the Community Market last weekend (July 4th weekend). They bought several items from myself and the Busy B's, and they stopped to take a few photos with us. On the left is the proud new owner of the Dragonfly and a bee. Thanks so much! What a great weekend!
