I was looking back at #BTS vids/photos & would be remised if I didn’t shine a spotlight on @arischaisastar who plays my mother in our upcoming @betplus Christmas film THE CHRISTMAS RINGER 🎄 This film displays such a beautifully flawed and layered black family with a strong matriarch at the helm. Our director @pcuffiejones gave us such bold and colorful pieces to our relationship so it was easy to “wear these characters “. Our first day, we jumped right into some heavy scenes and might I add, triggering for me, but what kept me going was knowing Arischa and I were in it together! Acting is such an act of selflessness and there’s nothing like getting to “play” with someone who shows up open, vulnerable and willing! Stunning work Mom! There’s nothing like a great back story for some of the most incredible songs we’ve ever heard. 🎶 🎭 Believe it or not, “The Way We Were” was omitted from the original cut of the film. Streisand, herself, voted against having the song in the scene although she liked. Marvin Hamlisch (songwriter) recalls a test screening in which the audience was unmoved by the final scene where Streisand and Redford realize they have no future together. Hamlisch begged Columbia to let him rescore the scene, with the song. They relented, on one condition… that he’d pay for the recording session. With the song in the final scene, the film was tested again. Hamlisch said, “I heard a woman start to cry. And then another. And within minutes, there wasn’t a dry eye left. I knew I was right. And that made it worth every penny.” The song was a #1 for Streisand and said to have revived her career in 1973. For Hamlisch ( one of two PEGOT winners), who died in 2012, it remained his personal favorite. This caption was supposed to be about soundtrack night in #CQLIVE with @dnice yesterday.
