“Cerulean Sky & Stars at Night”, 12”x18” print on aluminum, part of the Art35North exhibit, participating in the Flagstaff Dark Skies Coalition Dark Skies Downtown First Friday ArtWalk FLG in Downtown Flagstaff AZ! I will also have a handful of smaller dark skies themed prints and notecards available in the tents outside - stop by for art, music & snacks! ✨🎨✨

This Friday will be a special Flagstaff First Friday ArtWalk FLG as a part of the Flagstaff Dark Skies Coalition Dark Skies Downtown celebration! There will be exhibits all around Downtown Flagstaff AZ at various venues. I will be joining Art35North artists at the Phoenix Avenue Gallery for an exhibition of dark skies themed artwork. Please stop by! ✨

Please note that I will not be participating in the Art Tour this year, just the gallery exhibit

Don't forget to mark your calendar for this Friday night-this month's Artwalk will highlight Flagstaff's dark skies! Our member artists will be showing their works at Phoenix Avenue Gallery, 2 S. Beaver Street, with the exhibition going through September. And don't forget that this weekend, Sept. 7 and 8 is our annual Art Tour! 11 member artists will be open for visitation at 4 locations.

Here’s my contribution to our collective northern lights experience - a view of the peaks from the ski hill 😊 I hadn’t expected it to be visible here in Arizona, but then I saw my feed blowing up with everyone’s photos, so we made a last minute decision to drive up the mountain on Friday night to see what we could see. Unfortunately, there were too many clouds, but I was still in awe of the colors I was seeing through my camera! The bit of faint green to the far left of the peaks was the only thing that was visible to the naked eye, and I only saw it as a hazy patch of white. The peaks and the green patch were too far apart so I had to stitch a panorama to get it all in one image. Wish I could’ve seen the aurora with a clear sky, but the clouds added some drama of their own, and I came home very happy! 😍 ✨

Don’t forget to check out the Phoenix Airport Museum’s Night Vision exhibition, located at Terminal 4, Level 3, through June 23rd! I finally made it out there this weekend to see my photography piece, “Milky Way and The Peaks”, 20”x16” print on aluminum (was difficult to get a good pic because of plexiglas shield & reflections). I was also delighted to see works by fellow Flagstaff artists George Averbeck, Dawn Sutherland, and Joe Cornett in the exhibition! ✨

We got 3 ft of snow in 3 days in Flagstaff! Nice blue sky this morning as we dug ourselves out ❄️☀️

Looking back on 2023, there were many wonderful moments, but one of my favorites was the recent sale of an original painting - “Monument Valley Approach”, 2018, gouache and wax crayon. I’m thrilled that it found a good home, and thankful to R&A Auto for supporting local artists through their waiting room gallery! 🙏🥰🎉

Happy Winter Solstice! It’s the perfect time of year for a bonfire, farolitos, or a warm fire in the fireplace🔥 Last weekend we enjoyed the annual luminaria display in our neighborhood, and I snapped a few pics with my phone - I’m not sure the automatic processing got the stars quite right, but I’m still impressed with how well phone cameras can capture night scenes these days! ✨

We had our first real snow of the season here in Flagstaff last night, but I’m not ready for winter yet 🥶, so here is a throwback to summer sunflowers under the stars. This image is now available for purchase as a print through my online shop. Link in bio or message me! ✨🌻

I will have prints, note cards, and calendars for sale. There are two other holiday markets along the Fort Valley corridor that weekend, making for a great shopping experience - hope to see you there! 🎁✨

Hope everyone is enjoying a wonderful Thanksgiving! 🦃🥧 If you are traveling through Phoenix Sky Harbor International Airport , be sure to check out the Phoenix Airport Museum’s “Night Vision” art exhibition! Very excited that one of my photos, “Milky Way and The Peaks” was accepted into the show and is on display at Terminal 4, level 3, near the food court center until June 23, 2024. It is in the public area, so you don’t need to go through security. Hoping to visit soon - let me know if you see it too! ✨🎨✈️

This is an interesting night sky image from southern Utah - it’s a single exposure, but it looks like a blend. There was still some light in the sky, but also some clouds, and the combo somehow resulted in this image as I brought out the stars and shifted to a cooler color balance. ✨

Unexpected fall colors in the southern Utah desert in October. The colors only really popped when the leaves were backlit by the sun. From other angles, the foliage looked drab and blended in with the desert landscape. 🍂😍

Timeless view from Cedar Mesa in southern Utah 😍

I mentioned airglow in my last post - here it is again, looking in the opposite direction. Not sure why it’s so strong sometimes, but it seems to appear often when I’m photographing the night sky in the southern Utah desert. Here, there are also lights from some nearby communities mixed in. A view of Jupiter, the Pleiades, and a faint Milky Way. Plus a bonus meteor near Orion’s sword ✨

While camping in southern Utah, I had a chance to do some night sky photography! It had been a while, so I made a lot of mistakes 😝, but I salvaged a few pics. Here’s one with a lovely tree, and quite a lot of airglow and maybe some lingering light from sunset. ✨🏕️

In case your feed needs more eclipse photos, here’s my contribution 😁 With the path of maximum annularity within three hours drive in my favorite corner of southern Utah, I had to go see it! This being my first annular eclipse, I didn’t try anything fancy - just take some pics and enjoy the moment. 😎🌚🌙

This may be the most unusual venue I’ve displayed my artwork, but R&A Import Auto is no ordinary repair shop! I bring my Subie here, and I have always been treated with courtesy, honesty, and respect ❤️ They support local artists by offering their waiting room as a gallery space. My artwork will be up through the end of December, and all pieces are for sale - a variety of photo prints on metal, as well as a couple of paintings 🎨🚙

Wonderful monthly opportunity to practice figure drawing at Coconino Center for the Arts with Jeff Roth of CCC Fine Arts! Every third Sunday - sign up on the Coconino Center for the Arts webpage! I felt a little rusty and 2 hrs is never enough time 😅, but I came away happy with my sketch! 😊✏️🎨

Happy ! Photography allows everyone to capture and share their experiences and view of the world! I love big landscape views, but I also love the brief moments and small details that are preserved by the camera. Sharing here some images from a trip to Emerald Lake in Yoho National Park in Canada earlier this summer 📷🏔️🦋
