Swing Studios Jersey
Vernacular jazz, Lindy hop and movement workshops in Jersey, CI, by Tori Orchard (and guest teachers)
Every time you attend a class you’ll automatically receive a digital pamphlet going over what we learnt and the background of the dance. That way, you’ll always be able to refer back to what we did and pull out individual moves to add to your own dance repertoire. Learning it once is great, but being able to build your own library makes you unstoppable 😉
What a lovely group of people who came to my first solo jazz class! You learned the routine so well, and even coped with my little ‘surprise’ song brilliantly. Video to come - but what sports you were, I had a great time - thank you 😊
See you at 7pm tonight for solo jazz at Trinity Parish Hall! 🙌🏼 You can still book on Eventbrite (link in event page) or pay there
I have a space for free available on the solo jazz class, as someone can’t come but is offering their ticket - would anyone like this? First come first serve!
7pm this Thursday at Trinity Parish Hall.
Yesterday I taught at a beginners workshop for Lindy Hop Jersey with Daniel, where I also teach, and it was such a blast - what a great turnout. This is a shot from our demo performance which was so fun - photo courtesy of Katie Pearce 📸
Don’t forget you can book onto ours on 3rd March to learn from me and Pete - can never get enough Lindy! As well as the solo jazz and Shim Sham workshops coming up.
‘CAN GUYS DO THE JAZZ WORKSHOPS’? You ask…
YES. Please. Please do.
It occurred to me that my choreography snippet looks unashamedly girly … I just got carried away with the performance of it all. Call me a diva!
But anyway - blowing kisses etc is an optional variation within the dance and, of course, I want to encourage everyone to interpret the music and lyrics in whatever way they want - and indeed you don’t have to pay any attention to the lyrics…much of jazz has no lyrics anyway so it’s rare that we do.
Jazz is cool - and it looks great on EVERYONE.
If you can’t wait till March, get ahead and do this with Tori (who, as well as running Swing Studios, also teaches at Lindy Hop Jersey) and Daniel - then do ours in March to keep your skills up! Oh, and fill in the February gap with some solo jazz and shim sham. Keeeeeep dancing!

Watch this space to book onto these workshops - beginners Lindy Hop intensive; solo jazz class; shim sham routine workshop. I’ll be posting the events in the next few days, be sure to book on!
To those who booked onto the workshops in Jan, I’ve had to rearrange them and have refunded those who kindly booked. Apologies for this!
However, please keep an eye on here for the new dates should you wish to rebook on.
Best wishes,
Tori

The first Swing Studios Jersey workshops have been announced for January 2024! 🙌🏻
1️⃣ First up is the 'Solo jazz' dance workshop for adults, taking place on Sunday 14th January.
Solo jazz (or 'vernacular' / 'authentic' jazz dance), refers to dancing without a partner, and without any influences of ballet or any other modern contemporary techniques.
2️⃣ The Beginners Lindy Hop Intensive workshop is taking place on Sunday 28th January.
This two hour workshop will focus on beginner-level 6 count and 8 count basic steps and simple sequences. There's no need to sign up with a partner!
📍 Both workshops are taking place at Chateau Vermont
Have you seen our upcoming workshops for January 2024? We have a solo jazz workshop, and a beginners Lindy hop workshop! See our events page, or link in bio on Instagram.
Mindful movement is cancelled on 19th in favour of focusing on the jazz and Lindy events next year - so don’t turn up on the 19th looking for anything mindful!
I’ve had a few enquiries about my jazz classes and I just wanted to update you!
I have been trying to firm up the perfect venue and I’m finally there with it! However, as you can imagine, insurance organization is a little bit slow at the moment due to the far more important storm claims that everyone is dealing with.
So - I don’t want to make classes too close to Xmas and will probably book in jazz classes starting in January so that we can do it properly and we’re all free. They’ll be workshop events, so not weekly, but I will advertise them on here and you can book online.
I also have some INCREDIBLE specialist workshops lined up with other dancers that I can’t wait to reveal once we’ve got dates and the insurance stuff all sorted.
Please do keep an eye on here - listen to some jazz and find your bounce, bop around in the kitchen and become accustomed to it - and I’ll update you with dates asap.
Thanks again for your support,
Tori 💫
