Mother's Day is right around the corner and as adoptees, we know first hand how turbulent this day can be. Finding the right greeting card can be impossible and difficult.

For those that don't know, Mother's Day can be an incredibly difficult and emotional time for adopted individuals.

For many of us, this day serves as a painful reminder of the biological mother we may never know or have a relationship with. It also serves as a reminder of all we lost, even when many of us have reunited with our biological mothers, things can still be complicated and heavy.

Many adoptees struggle with feelings of loss, abandonment, and longing for a connection to their birth mother.

The celebration of motherhood can also highlight the complexities and mixed emotions surrounding our own experiences of adoption.

While some of us may deeply love and appreciate our adoptive mothers , Mother's Day can bring up feelings of guilt or confusion about our loyalty and identity.

This day can be a poignant reminder of the unique challenges and complexities that come with being adopted, making it a time of reflection and inner turmoil for many adoptees. Myself included!

Ready, set, go! 🎲

Most of us are familiar with the old and inaccurate adoption symbol that's been flooding adoption circles for decades. It has a black triangle with a red heart in the middle.

I created what I describe to be the real authentic adoption symbol that more accurately reflects the adoptee experience for adopted people and everyone in the adoption constellation.

This is how I describe the real authentic adoption symbol:

The top point of the triangle equates our adoptive and biological families coming together to make this choice for us. The bottom of the triangle is non-existent because the adoptee's voice has sadly been invisible and silenced, and we didn't sign any contracts. The heart is broken, which resembles the loss of our biological connections, ethnicity, relationships, missing resources, medical history, missing memories, sense of self, separation trauma, and adoption trauma. The bleeding heart represents our truth being hijacked and being gaslit to be grateful for the most significant loss of our lives, our biological histories, and our families. The dripping blood represents the grief and loss process that is a lifelong journey. The hole in the heart is a representation of the void (or hole) that adoption creates in our lives and our hearts from so much lost, never to be.

These are just a few true-to-life greeting card collection that are my favorite. They are actually all my favorite, but most of them pull on my heart strings for various reasons. I'm certain this greeting card collection will change the trajectory of conversations being sparked, that might not always be easy, but are definitely needed.

Ultimately, I hope they open up the willingness for us all to tap into having difficult conversations about adoption, and being an LDA, MPE, NPE, donor conceived and DNA surprise individual. I hope they provide validation and encouragement for all those impacted by this path of life we didn't ask for, but are trying to navigate the best way we can.

I hope they open the floodgates of truth and transparency in our communities, families, churches, and circle of friends, family and even acquaintances. I truly believe one true-to-life greeting card has the power to shift the trajectory of our conversations so they can be more honest and upfront with those we love.

I also hope they allow all the friends and family of these individuals to be able to pick the right card and sentiments in ways that are nurturing and validating to each of us.

One true-to-life greeting card can change everything and bring us closer together. I have definitely poured my heart and soul into this project and I hope you love this collection as much as I do.
