Fecht Yeah
Fecht Yeah is a New York based HEMA Tournament for under-represented genders since 2015ish.
Injury Recap:
Usually Fecht Yeah runs without notable injuries, but this year was unusually high. This post serves as an attempt for accountability, transparency, and prevention for future events. Though we are a small event with a small team, we endeavor to follow and implement best practices. This year, we added blade flex requirements, removed quality requirements, and carried through our concussion protocol, along with carrying forward a penalty/carding system. Unfortunately we were vulnerable to day-of med cancellations and inter-staff consistency in ex*****on. While contingencies were in place, clarity of those contingencies will be emphasized going forward.
H/t to King's Cup's post-event listing, language, and format.
1. Match halted to assess fencer, using concussion protocols. Upon visual examination and fencer statement, abrasion to skin around eye was noted, likely due to broken glasses. Organizers spoke with judges and fencers and agreed that no excessive force was used. Responder treated with gauze and referred to urgent care for further examination. Fencer was medically disqualified for the day. Longsword.
2. Organizers informed by off-duty judge of a fencer with a possible injury to hand or wrist in prior match due to excessive force of opponent. Fencer advised by judge of info for urgent care and offered aid. Fencer withdrew from competition. Messer.
3. Impact on thumb requiring ice and gauze. No excessive force noted. Free sparring.
4. Impact on thumb requiring ice and gauze. No excessive force noted. Free sparring.

The event might be over, but we're back at work, looking to make next year even better. We'll work on getting some surveys out soon, while our lil team enters the post-mortem stage.
I think the best part of the weekend was how it brought NY schools together in a way without the baggage this state has historically carried. Ultimately it's a really great and healing step for New York state.
We'll see you next year on the 3rd (full) weekend in June. Obvs.
Remember to cart the specific tournaments you want, if you're planning on fighting in them! We have a lot of weekend registrations without tournaments added.
Almost everyone has received a personalized confirmation email by this point. If you do not see your registration days plus tournaments, you are not registered for tournaments. (If you've registered over the last weekend, I have not sent out personal confirmations because I was teaching in another state... but you should have receipts from Squarespace commerce.)
Friday is coming up fast!
For first class announcement, we have Cristina Tamer's "Time to Measure Up" at noon on Sunday!
In this class, we will explore a fundamental and universal skill for all weapons: understanding and controlling distance. Through games, drills, and controlled sparring we will explore how we can make our attacks and defences more effective. We will discuss body mechanics and how to move to best use our personal size and shape. We will also discuss how to deal with measure mismatches and learn to control the tempo of a bout.
Check out the rest of the schedule along with all of the ruleset in HEMAScorecard:
It's the last weekend to get a refund from Fecht Yeah in money format. (50% Refund Period) Any cancellations after 6/17/2023 will only be eligible for a transfer to a future event.

We had some modifications to the instructor line up. We added Pax Girdsman and Ashanti Ziths, but unfortunately Constance Fraizer won't be able to make it this year due to medical issues.

Ya girl is trying to answer questions and also get these rules tested irl so we can post... but apparently FB isn't showing all of our posts. So if you have questions about location, lodging, time, which weapons we have tournaments for and their signups, etc... I'm sorry but we are fighting what is likely a sh@dowb@n. Due to egregious transphobia, I will consider membership in HEMA in Pyjamas a cause for a ban from our event.
