The Trust's main goal is to ensure that the Zion children are able to become independent adults. At times, it's a struggle for some of our children to pass academic exams. Fortunately, in Kenya only primary education is compulsory, children can leave school rather than have four years of secondary school. The children can become completely demoralised when they get really low grades and, being practical, it's a waste of our limited funds. Last February three of our teenagers started at Vision Empowerment Training Institute rather than secondary school. They have successfully passed the training and are starting their practical placement. One as a beautician in a salon and two with Kenya Water Development from January as plumbers. Another young adult finished secondary and started a Tourism course. Thanks to their sponsors' unwavering support.
Plastic bottles are a problem in Kenya because the tap water has to go through a treatment system to be potable that not everyone can afford to install. This is a great solution to two problems!

A grandmother’s promise A health facility with clean water offers hope to drought-stricken families
After 24 years, Jane has built up so much local support. We had visitors today! Pastor Mathew Mwangi and his friends came with their families.
After being prevented from visiting for four years, we've finally got updated photos of our beautiful children. We have quite a few young adults now. This is because they may have had an interrupted education, or in some cases no education, until their life circumstances brought them to Calvary Zion, so consequently completed their education much later.
The Kenyan Children's Department may officially close their files at 18, but they can live at Zion until they finish college and can support themselves financially!

Time for homework!
As it's the start of the new academic year, Susan did a short activity to reflect on how important education is to the future of the children. They organised the photos into Life with Education and Life Without Education. This gave a strong visual representation of two very different lives and how with education, so many more opportunities are available to them.
The start of a new school year! Secondary school children go to boarding schools, so they need personal care items too,
When your annoying aunty Susan is trying to get 11 children to look at the camera and smile and someone always looks away!! (Shoes were being cleaned!!!)
Baby Devine was abandoned at a kiosk when he was hours old. He was signed over into our care. This week at 3 years old, he is excited to be starting Kindergarten!

Afternoon at the beach and Indiana Beach Hotel!
Mr Vindi and Davinda from Indiana Beach Hotel, not only regularly donate food and hygiene products, they support our young adults who are doing hotel and catering at college when they need a placement.
They also invite the children to use their swimming pool.
Under the supervision of their tutor, students from Vision Empowerment College did some minor repairs to the electrics. They were watched by our young adults who are currently considering the vocational training options available at the college.
In the afternoon, Joy had a session with the girls, and Nathan with the boys to talk about issues around puberty, consent, s*x education and moral conduct.
Joy Zion is now a teacher and had come to delivery a workshop. She talked to the young adults about peer pressure and strategies to stay away from other students who behave negatively.
An energiser activity!
Nathan Zion giving our Secondary school/college students motivation and encouragement before they go back to school on Monday.
Joshua volunteers his time in 7 local children's homes. He repairs the shoes. This really helps as sometimes shoes just need repaired not replaced.

Unfortunately, some people are out to scam us! Fortunately, we were one step ahead and were suspicious of this too good to be true kind offer. Thanks to another UK charity posting about how they were scammed, our suspicions were confirmed. Here our reply, but probably won't make any difference! Karma will get them eventually,
