An alum of Gil Evans Big Band and a member of the Jazz Composers Orchestra Association, the late Bruce Johnson was always creative and enigmatic. Johnson pushed the evelope of jazz composition, jazz improvisation/harmony and devoted himself to the liberation of the jazz guitar as well as students and friends around him. Rodney Jones, Ed Cherry and Vernon Reid are three of Bruce Johnson's original guitar acolytes and powerful, contemporary torch-bearers of his musical legacy.
