We’re quickly approaching 6 months with this girl! Hard to believe! I had a little internal goal of trying to get on her myself before that mark and I’ve now done so twice! Look forward to see what this spring and summer brings for miss Kismet!!

Someone lost a few teeth this month! And we tried her out with our horses again… she’s getting better about unleashing her crankiness but you definitely gotta watch her.

Day 165 😅 her abscess is looking great and healing well and today we had a very successful sit #4 and ride #3! So proud! She’s definitely a mommas girl though… haha! It will be interesting to see how she is with me on her vs on the ground.

Pics from the last few days of this pretty girl 🥰

Oh yeah! And sit #2!

I’ve been slacking on my posting here… she had a huge accomplishment today that I wanted to post about but an update of the last few weeks first.

24/03/2024

And yesterday/today update. I finally had my helper and bestie to help get a real first sit done on Kismet! With rodeo queen tryouts going on in the arena next to us and all!

Tonight I threw some weighted bags on the saddle so she could get used to something new. Walk and trot were fine but cantering with them she wasn’t thrilled. At least not at first. After that we did a little long lining. She was pretty over it by then.. 😂

She’s a bit lazy for English right now, but she sure looks pretty with an English saddle! Also, the trail course from the show was still setup so we ran through a random pattern to see how she’d do. It’s funny how much less of this work we’ve done with her not being a competition horse.

25/02/2024

Some funny videos and pic from Thursday when we played with noodles on the ba****ck pad. Shes pretty sensible thankfully.

And then today I got to greet her laying down, and then we worked on trailering. She learned to load with Zayne in there too - getting them to squeeze into that second spot isn’t always easy but she seems to be figuring it out.

Still healing but puting her back to work on riding skills! We long lined, worked on bending and steering, and played around at the mounting block. Woot woot!

Spent quite a bit of time at the barn today with this girl! She had some GIANT bucks and some big burnouts that I didn’t catch in video, but here’s a small sampling of what her energy was today! Hehe! It doesn’t last long though. We also put the saddle back on since her abscess is looking like it’s headed in the right direction. Here’s to hoping we can get back to riding prep.

We also did trailering work and later went out to the trail course from the ranch show this weekend. She insisted on touching the donkey!!

This girl finally had an official trimming by someone other than me! She was wonderful! As you can tell she’s thrilled and curious all at the same time. My little bit it of rasping here/there to try and correct the lopsidedness from the grinder worked and maintained them pretty well. He didn’t even need the nippers.

Two days in a row I got to hangout with her laying down!! She’s so dang cute!

11/02/2024

This girl is such a trooper… the vet has me rinsing her abscess out twice a day. I have to try and actually stick the syringe in her wound to keep it open and clean to drain… boy she does not like it! I don’t blame her either! I figured I would video it tonight for a memory of this time…. 🫣 I won’t share a pic of the actual abscess here though cause it’s icky. Lolol!

10/02/2024

I finally had her out in the arena when the announcers were going. The first time she heard them she was a little annoyed but soon just accepted it as normal. A short clip of us sharing the boarders arena with 2 other lungers and a rider or two. Safe to say she’s getting good with traffic!

Oh! I also finally caught her laying down in her stall and ran in to get some cuddles. She was a little unsure if she was supposed to stay down but the itches were good so she stayed.

Someone is sheddinggg…!!

06/02/2024

Big day for this girl!! She got her first teeth float, had one wolf tooth in there so we pulled that, inspected our abscess on her hip (vets are amazing… she just stuck her finger right in there! Ew!!), and got all her vaccines! She was so good! So proud of her!

04/02/2024

Kismet is so funny! She loves to WATCH. She still has her reactions to new scary things but thankfully it’s pretty controlled and doesn’t last long before she decides she wants to watch and touch whatever is scary.

03/02/2024

Still just doctoring Kismets abscess so we’re just hanging out. We finally have bigger shows coming in so lots of new exposure for her! She has the best brain.

She saw the giant stack of scary blue bales of shavings earlier this week. Her reaction? Stop and look then march right up to smell it. She did contemplate jumping away but when I told her no, she was calm and cool.

Then we went around the property last night and people leading cows (there’s a cow show at the other facility!) came into the arena. She wasn’t phased at all. We came back to the main facility and some of the ohset kids were practicing drill with flags. She thought they might be scary but was also very intrigued that the horses were just carrying them. She wanted to follow!

Today we walked around the property at lunch back behind the rodeo arena where there’s lots of “scary” things including a tarp on a shed. She jumped, watched it, then decided she was fine. Wrapped it up with ponying her with some of the ohset chaos. We did walk/trot both directions with some traffic in the arena, and she did it like a professional.

Haha I know lots of words - I use this as my diary more than anything. I love being able to look back and see what I did with each mustang. Also day 104?! How is that possible

31/01/2024

Still a work in progress… but Kismet is figuring out sidepassing away and towards me both directions. I saw someone else post their horse doing it the other day and remembered we had not worked on it in a while. Since her abscess is still doing it this preventing riding work, I figured now was a good time to circle back.

She picked it right up this go round - last time I tried she was not thrilled and had opinions. Our problem is her anticipating 😂 so now that she understands I gotta start mixing it up and making her SLOW down.

28/01/2024

Haha so much for our bath yesterday… it was so sunny and a barn friend said we could use her turnout for an hour two. Kismet loved every minute of it!! So appreciative to have this opportunity for her cause her turnout is under water. She’s got so much personality and sass!

28/01/2024

Today was pretty warm so I decided to do a full bath for miss Kismet. It wasn’t the best job as she was fidgety and I just wanted to keep it a positive experience. It was her first time having her whole body sprayed down, and first time using a spray bottle! No surprise, she was great for all of it! Love her brain. Crazy to think we’re almost 100 days since pick up - it’s been weird having no pressure, or deadlines with this girl getting ready for competition. Thank goodness though, because it’s just harder in the winter!

Photos from Kismet - Tag 7956's post 25/01/2024

Guess I haven’t posted here in a bit… with the ice storm we just did bare minimum. And now she’s throwing another new one at me. That lump she had in her hip when I got her, the one I thought may have been a tight muscle or scar tissue of some sort appears to be an abscess. It’s started to get angry so we will have the vet out in the next week or so to float teeth and assess the abscess.

13/01/2024

Oh yeah! Here she is checking out the cows that were in the arena today! She thought they were pretty cool! The little kid on the little blue bike on the way to the cows was a little scary though.

13/01/2024

Hehe look at that cute face! A friend ran across this pic and sent it so I could see.

11/01/2024

There are a few obstacles out for the ranch show this weekend so I took the opportunity to play with Kismet! Haha the last clip was her taking on the stump because it “grabbed” her foot when she walked into it. She’s so silly! Also she was wiggly but finally recorded our foot routine of picking feet and rasping. I did it quickly… so I thought, but it still ended up being a crazy long video so it’s in turbo speed and clipped a bit. Haha!

Pics from the last few days! And wow today is day 80! How in the world did that happen…??? She took some fun victory laps around the arena! She can be so lazy sometimes and others times she’s so full of herself! Cracks me up!

Realized I haven’t made an update here in a while… nothing crazy new happening. Here are a couple pics and clips since last time. We’re just working on all the things. Lunging, saddling, socializing, showmanship, body control, tying, feet… and so on. She’s probably ready for her first ride, I’m just not sure I am yet. 😅😂 Today we had an impromptu little photo shoot with some of our other mustang friends! That was a lot of fun!
