We’re excited to announce that, due to a surge in our Beaver section (ages 6 to 8), we are currently looking for new leaders to join our team! Why not take on our 4-week challenge to see if volunteering with us is the right fit for you? If you’re interested, we’d love to hear from you!

Arrangements for Remembrance Sunday.

So last week had its highs and lows for the group. Unfortunately, our hut was severely flooded during the storm Babet with over 18" of water being inside our hut. However, on Sunday the 22nd when our call for help went out, over 30 parents, scouts, explorers and volunteers descended on the hall and the worst of the clean-up was complete within just over an hour! We are so grateful and thankful to everyone who came down and helped!

Later in the week, two of our members, Ilona & Ollie, held a talk in Tannadice church to tell us all about their World Scout Jamboree Experience, from being selected, the fundraising, the training and how the Jamboree went. The talk was very interesting, and it was great to hear their stories and memories.

The evening was concluded with a celebration of some Scouts and Explorers receiving some of the top awards in their sections. Five Scouts were presented with the top award in the Scout Section, Chief Scout Gold Award. One of our Explorers were presented with the Chief Scout Platinum Award and two were presented with their Chief Scout Diamond Award. We are very proud of each of the as these awards show that they are not just ordinary scouts, but extraordinary ones. They have ventured into the wilderness, learned vital skills for life, served their communities, and become leaders among your peers. They have demonstrated that they can face challenges with courage and resilience and have become role models for their fellow scouts. So a massive well done to each of them!

So heart warming when you come across this that our scouts have made without us knowing. Last week showed me how different kids of different ages, backgrounds and friends groups can all just work together and get along as one. The TikTok also perfectly sums up what our group and scouting is all about! Scouting gives young people so much and we are so proud to be part of it

Well that is us on route back from a Magical week in one of the most beautiful places on Earth. Our adventure to the International Scout Centre in Kandersteg, Switzerland has been more amazing that we ever expected. The weather was amazing, scorching sunshine everyday except for one downpour of rain with thunder and lightning.

We had a packed programme and did so many fun and exciting activities from looking round Bern, Swimming in a Thermal pool where they could jump off a rock into the water, hiked to the stunning Oeschinensee Lake, went down a mountain coaster and toured and Swiss Chocolate and Cheese Factory (especially enjoying the tasting room!) to name just a few!

The camp was topped off with being invited to the World Scout Fellowship events (which was taking place while we were on site) campfire with over 250 people from around the world including the Swedish King who is now the proud owner of a Tannadice necker! Our Scouts and Explorers performed a song for everyone which they got a resounding round of applause for followed by one of our scouts piping us out of the campfire and two of our explorers demonstrating a bit of highland dancing which thoroughly impressed everyone.

I could go on and on but I better bring this post to an end. I can't begin to describe how amazing this trip was and what a wonderful bunch of young people we had the pleasure to share the experience with, a true credit to their parents. I am sure each young person will have their own favourite memory and experience of this trip along with a special moment. Please take the time to talk to and ask them about their adventure as I am sure they can't wait to tell you all about it!

To finish off, I would like to thank the amazing leadership team who has supported me and the young people on the lead of and during the trip, donating their precious annual leave to provide this is amazing experience to our young people for which I am truly grateful for and so are our young people.

So Kandersteg 2023... That's a wrap!!!

This week our Cubs had a visit from the Police..... thankfully it was a planned visit! The Cubs were told by our local Police community officer what the police do, had a go at batting a riot shield, and sat in the back of a police van (hopefully for the first & only time!). It is safe to say the cubs really enjoyed the visit and thanks to Police Scotland Tayside for taking the time to visit our Cubs. Scouts UK

Last night our scouts had fun creating some first aid scenarios using props and fake wounds. Some were very extreme with some interesting backstories! They then had to try and deal with the injuries as if they were real life. Our leader Craig then spoke the scouts through how they should actually deal with each one, even the exteme ones! Apologies to the parents for the blood stained clothes!

Last week our cubs enjoyed a visit to the police museum in Kirriemuir finding out about policing in years gone by. Unfortunately, the leaders were not able to leave the cubs in the cells as requested by some parents!

This week the cubs started working towards their disability awareness badge where they learned about braille and tried making a sandwich blindfolded

At the weekend we held our first Group camp for all sections in around 10 years and what a fantastic time we had! Our Beavers & Cubs had a great time doing pirate activities followed by a trip to HSM Unicorn in Dundee. Our Scouts tried some paddleboarding and completed some pioneering projects. In the evening everyone had a shot of the giant inflatables followed by a great campfire. The Explorers also took part in the paddleboarding followed by an escape room. On Sunday all sections competed in a mini highland games and then welcomed their family and past members of Tannadice & Menmuir scouts to a BBQ and showed off a few activities our sections get up to. We are so thankful to the leaders and parent helpers who made it all possible along with the young people you made the camp lots of fun! Here is a short video of the highlights.

As you may have seen on the news, the UK contingent have decided to transfer all their young people and adult volunteers back to Seoul away from the jamboree site due to extreme hot weather. As the UK are the largest contingent, they hope that this helps alleviate the pressure on the site overall.

Our young people are well supported by great unit leaders along with amazing staff on site. Their experience will not be what they prepared for but I am sure they will roll with it and make the most of it and still have an amazing experience!

Thank you to everyone who is thinking of them.
