Halloween teatime with Halloween candy inspired cupcakes. cupcakes aren't my go to dessert but I decided to try and make some this Halloween Chocolate cupcakes with a cream cheese chocolate icing were quite moist with yogurt in the recipe; lemon cupcake with a lemon cream cheese icing was a more dense cake. Each was topped with Halloween candy, Mentos, chocolate, shortbread and anything else in the kitchen cupboards! And of course, some black tea on the side.
My mother had the extreme ghost Pepper flavoured chips lying around and I started wolfing them down like Doritos. Big mistake!! I since found the other flavours that aren't quite as life threatening as the ghost Pepper ones. Here is my version of a chip tasting and I survived .
and combined. Chocolate lava cakes made in my new instapot(π), mini cheesecakes with a shortbread bottom, shortbread, pineapple upside down cake and banana crumb cake with this Kenyan Tinderet tea from David's tea, perfectly paired with a grilled cheese, bacon and egg sandwich for lunch! π
Honey black tea from + frothy milk dusted with cinnamon results in this! With the very fall weather, warm lattes with frothed milk on top is very cozy. I tried pairing with with a banana crumb cake and that added to the cozy factor! I have really enjoyed this honey black tea not too strong, it doesn't seem to become so astringent when oversteped to be undrinkable. Very smooth taste and milk flavour. A bit of milk adds a nice creaminess which goes well with the tea

I got a new milk frother, my first ever. I've been frothing milk all the time the past couple of days! Here I have a matcha latte with frothed milk with a home made pineapple upside down cake; second picture is a the same matcha latte with frothy milk with a banana crumb cake; finally a picture of the pineapple upside down cake, upside down! I'm not sure which cake the matcha latte goes best with bit...frothy milk goes with everything!!

I love these flower teas that bloom when you pop them into hot water! Another tea/flower from the toronto tea festival this year.

one of my last from the , White peony aged 5 years. I enjoy white teas so this was a treat. I don't think I've had an aged white tea and this one was very cute with tea leaves in a little lime. π Flavour was good....not string, not too weak. I got three good steeps out of it....I hope there is a tea festival again in February next year. Does anyone know??
Tea weather seems to have arrived over here the past couple of days I haven't had from in awhile. Last night was pink lemonade. It was nice. I think I over steeped it lol but it made it all that more lemony!:-). It's also been awhile since I've used one of these tea Steelers from David's tea as well. They are great little contraptions! :-)
Another but local. House of Georgie. An eggplant pizza with a meat sauce. I've never had eggplant on a pizza so it was interesting. The pizza was very hot! Once it cooled down it had some nice flavour. The eggplant, flavour and texture, with the meat sauce was really nice. :-) and we got a nice dry seat outside!
Really nice fresh basil and tomato plant outside too. :-)

Strawberry picking at Schouldice farms after Jones Creek Trail in the and ice cream in . I ate the ice cream too fast to get a picture. But I've got a picture of the strawberries and the trifle that was made with them afterwards. Perfect day to be outside and eating ice cream!

My first attempt ever at a bubble drink. I really wanted a Dalgona coffee but also matcha and wanted to try my newly acquired tapioca pearls so I ended up with this...bubble matcha latte Dalgona over ice. :-)it was fun to make and drink!:-)
Socially distant Picnic at with cold brew tea and lite squares and circles of desserts. The cold brew was a combination of black Forest Chaga from and energy tea from . I wasn't sure about a cold brewed black tea but I really enjoyed it. It wasn't strong, or astringent at all. It had this lovely light yet slightly earthy flavour and the colour is beautiful and golden. The desserts were good too...mini blueberry cheesecake was very smooth from .broughton ; the squares were first attempts for me, a raspberry crumble square and an oat butterscotch square. Both were very different...one sweet and crunchy the other fruity and buttery. Equally yummy!

I haven't been drinking any cold brewed teas the past few days but I have tried my hand at making herbal teas from and other drinks with herbs from the garden. From left to right there is a lemon balm tea, mint lemonade and a orange mint tea. The lemon balm tea has sweetener in it, maple syrup was my sweetener of choice; the lemonade has freshly squeezed lemons and sugar in it; the orange mint tea has nothing but lemon mint leaves steeped in water over night. I the last one was my favorite. Probably because I could taste the flavour of the herb more. I found the sweetener in the lemon balm tea was a bit too much and the lemon juice overpowered the mint. It's probably a balancing act between the two, flavouring and herb, which will take some time to figure out.
I had fun making them and will have to see what I can do with the other herbal teas I can come up with! :-)

Ginger from and an Alishan from were combined to create this cold brew. It wasn't nearly enough for today but it was refreshing. The taste of the ginger really came through from the two pouches I put in for a 1l bottle of water. The oolong added a nice smoothness and slight earthy taste but more than that it looked beautiful once it had brewed and the oolong leaves opened up! It looked very lush and green in the bottle. I wasn't able to get a very good picture of the leaves. I'll have to try again. Stay cool!

Last week's pizza was another homemade creation, or experiment depending on which picture you look ok at! This is a beet pizza crust. The beet flavour wasn't that pronounced but the colour was amazing. Before it was baked, and as it rose, it did look like bubble gum which was fun. It was very colourful and made for a colourful pizza. The recipe said it makes two pizza crusts and it could be stored in the fridge for later. That didn't work out that we'll. It kept rising and growing. No big deal in the end, I got two pizzas out of it. :-) These pizza is vegetarian pesto pizza, so light. Recipe is below.

Another cold brew blend. This time good karma from with from joined together to create this pretty coloured yellowy-green drink. It had a nice earthy flavour which I was surprised by but really enjoyed especially cold. I'm enjoying blended cold brews and going to see what two teas I pull out of my tea stash for tomorrow's cold brew!! :-)
Another blended cold brew. This time I mixed strawberry cream dreams from with purple chocolate from . I enjoyed this a lot too. It was a lot milder a flavour than the colour suggests and I didn't have any of that astringent taste that some of fruity cold brew get when left to brew too long. Purple tea and strawberries seem to be a match made in heaven!π₯°π₯°
I've been drinking alot more lately. I started with cold brew with a single tea but now I've started blending different teas together for my cold brews. I'm enjoying the results. This is a from and energy tea from mixed together. The colour is great, a lovely golden brown; the flavour is a hint of smokey and herbal-y, is that a word?? π€ I enjoyed it. π
I was so inspired by Dalgona variations that I had to try matcha +milk + Dalgona this morning. This was the result. It was very good! Nice blend of the matcha and coffee flavour together. I'm not sure if that is breaking some sort of "tea law" combining matcha and coffee but it works!! :-)
Last weekend was a trip to o Prescott for pizza at Papa Larry's. A Hawaiian pizza with extra peppers. It was a beautiful day last Sunday; nice walk in Prescott by the water and a nice snack of pizza. It was a little mild in flavour, but not bad.

I've been really enjoying making Dalgona coffee even though I'm not a coffee drinker. I've been trying to find different ways of drinking it, with milk, chai, tea! Here I have it mixed in and topping a Kenyan black tea from I got back at the mixed with some cashew milk and ice cubes of course. It makes for a really nice summery drink. I paired it with cookies, of course! These fudgy chocolate chip and walnut cookies with Reese's pieces substituted for the chocolate chips and almonds for the walnuts. ( Or whatever I happen to have in the kitchen!!) I've noticed anything goes well with Dalgona coffee; anything goes well with tea; anything hung goes well with chocolate! π
Cookie Recipe:
1c butter
1c sugar
1/2c brown sugar
1.75c flour
1/3c cocoa powder
1/4 tsp baking soda
1 egg
3 tbsp milk
1 tsp vanilla
1 c Reese's pieces ( I put in a while bag!)
1/2 c almonds ( use whatever nuts you have, or none!)
Dalgona coffee:
2 tbsp instant coffee
2 tbsp sugar
2tbsp boiling water
Whip until fluffy.
This past weekend I didn't make it out to get take out pizza. Instead i made my own. I've tried this crust before, I really enjoy it. It's a sweet potato crust. I find it can be rolled out quite thin; it's blind baked for about 10mins before flipping it over, topping it and baking again for another 15 minor so to get the toppings nice and done. I also love playing around with different toppings like, avocado, pineapple, hot peppers sausage and more. This is my pizza, chez moi, this past weekend! :-)
Recipe:
150g sweet potato cooked and mashed
150g flour, any
1 egg
1 tsp baking powder
Pinch of salt ( I rarely use salt)
Out for a walk this evening through the experimental farm and among the weeds found a few colourful flowers. Turned out to be a nice evening and we even found a gelato place open after 8pm!!

I made this slightly modified upside down skillet pineapple cake. Instead of using a skillet, I used a small pie plate perfect for a single serving; instead of pecans I used sliced almonds and I had no cherries. Otherwise, it turned out great!! It was actually very easy to make and very tasty. Of course the first time I made it I forgot to include the whipped eggs whites which resulted in a less fluffy cake. But, in this picture I did remember to include the whipped eggs whites and it was very soft and fluffy. I forget what tea I had with it but honestly, any tea would go perfectly with cake outside in the fresh air and sunshine! :-)

Today I tried making the equivalent of the . This uses egg whites. It was fun to make and the peaks of matcha were really firm and held their shape. I used cashew milk. I'm not sure it blended as easily as the coffee Dalgona but visually, it was very impressive. The recipe I used is below. I'm going to keep trying and see what else I come up with! I did find that s recipe made enough for two. So if you don't have a friend handy, maybe divide the recipe in half!

I'm not a coffee drinker but when I saw a picture of this Dalgona coffee I had to make it even if I wasn't going to taste it. My first attempt was a a disaster as I used ground coffee rather than instant. I only had ground coffee because I make body and facial scrubs with it. But apparently you need instant coffee to make this. So with instant coffee, sugar, water and a hand mixer this is what I ended up with! Fluffy whipped coffee on top of cashew milk in ice. I did taste it and it was actually very nice as the whipped coffee slowly mixed into the milk.
Beet brownies. I had never heard or seen these before. I have noticed more recipes including beets. This is my first try baking with beets. The beet brownies were moist and dense and had this decadent, smooth richness to them. They were enjoyed by the few in my socially distant circle!:-) the site with the recipe is below. I have come across chick pea brownies so that may be my next brownie!

Another week, another pizza. This time it was a spicy and sweet pizza with chicken, jalepeno peppers, pineapple and a honey garlic sauce from or #12 ,π. I really enjoy peppers and pineapple in a pizza. It had a nice deep dish feel to it, just the right amount of cheese.
